Scope*1.1 This specification covers the basic requirements for sixgrades of corrosion protection for fasteners. Grade A

3、consistsof a heavy zinc phosphate coating with no additional sealer(dry), Grade B consists of a heavy zinc phosphate coating witha dry organic sealer, Grade C consists of a heavy zincphosphate coating with supplemental dry-to-touch oil typecompound, Grade D consists of a heavy zinc phosphate coating

4、with supplemental protective oil type compound, Grade Econsists of a grain-refined microcrystalline zinc phosphate withsupplemental oil type compound, and Grade F consists of amanganese phosphate coating with supplemental oil typecompound.1.2 This specification is intended primarily for fastenerssuc

5、h as nuts, clips, washers, and other ferrous threaded andnon-threaded fasteners that require corrosion protection andlubrication.1.3 These coatings may or may not have a decorative finish.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The value

6、s stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.5 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized princi

7、ples on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards, Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.2. Classification3.1 The phosphate treatments and subsequent protectivecoatings are classified into six grades according to the require-ments shown in Table 1.4. Ordering Informat

9、ion4.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:4.1.1 Quantity of parts,4.1.2 Grade required (see Table 1), and4.1.3 Any additions agreed upon between the purchaser andthe supplier.5. Requirements5.1 AppearanceUnless otherwise agreed upon betweenthe purchas

10、er and the producer, the color of the protectivecoating shall be as-coated gray for all grades.5.2 Corrosion ResistanceThese coatings shall be capableof withstanding neutral salt spray for the minimum h specifiedin Table 1 with no base metal corrosion on significant surfaces.Significant surfaces on

11、threaded fasteners are defined as theexposed surfaces when the fasteners are installed in a normalmanner (bolt head, nut head, face, etc.). On other surfaceswhere control of the coating cannot be obtained under normalprocessing such as holes, recesses, threads, etc., the aboverequirements do not app

12、ly.5.3 Thread FitThe maximum thickness of coating whichmay be applied to threads on threaded products is limited bythe basic thread size (see 8.2). Threads may be producedundersize/oversize (before coating) to accommodate the coat-ing thickness, providing the finished product (after coating)meets al

13、l specified mechanical properties. All undersize/oversize must be within permissible limits as agreed uponbetween the supplier and the purchaser.5.4 Dry-to-TouchGrades B and C shall be evenly coatedand dry-to-touch such that when held with filter paper orequivalent and applying hand pressure for 5 t

14、o 10 s, there shallbe no visible staining of the filter paper when viewed withoutuse of supplementary magnification. Test Methods7.1 The corrosion resistance shall be determined in accor-dance with Practice B117.7.2 The coating thickness may be

19、determined by micro-scopic examination of the cross-section taken perpendicular tothe significant surface. Coating thickness, for referee purposes,shall be measured by this method.The formula used for measuring the thickness of a deposit bythe weigh-strip-weigh method is:Coating weight in mg/ft2gm2!

21、volves weighing the testspecimen before and after stripping the deposit with a reagent which doesnot attack the base metal.8. Inspection8.1 Samples shall be taken in accordance with PracticeF1470.8.2 Referee InspectionThe following referee thread in-spection procedure may be utilized if the specifie

22、d “go” gagebinds on the screw.8.2.1 Bolt or ScrewAssemble a phosphate-plated test nutwith a 2B or 6H class thread down the full length of the thread.8.2.2 NutAssemble a phosphate-plated test bolt or screwwith a 2A or 6g class thread for a minimum of one diameterthrough the nut.8.2.3 The test nut or

23、screw/bolt must run freely for the totallength without binding.9. Rejection and Rehearing9.1 Unless otherwise specified, any rejection based on testsspecified herein and made by the purchaser shall be reported tothe manufacturer as soon as practical after receipt of theproduct by the purchaser.10.
