3、a for a semi-flush, oiltight and watertight bolted hingedmanhole cover assembly.1.2 The manhole cover assemblies depicted on this specifi-cation are for use in decks or bulkheads requiring oiltight andwatertight covers that are not required to be completely flush.Manhole cover assemblies shall be co
4、mplete with covers,mounting rings, gaskets, studs, washers, hinge assemblies, andnuts.1.3 Handles, if required, shall be as specified in the orderinginformation.1.4 Values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded asstandard.1.5 This standard is not applicable to certain hazardouscargos. Sampling9.1 For orders for one or two manhole cover assemblies,each manhole assembly shall be inspected.9.2 For orders for three to ten manhole cover assemblies,t
26、wo manhole cover assemblies shall be selected at random. Ifany one of them fails to meet requirements, then all manholecover assemblies in the order shall be inspected.9.3 For orders for more than ten manhole cover assemblies,they shall be separated into groups of ten (or fraction thereof)for sampli
27、ng purposes.10. Inspection and Testing10.1 ResponsibilityUnless otherwise specified in the or-der, the manufacturer is responsible for the performance of allinspection and testing specified herein. The manufacturer mayuse his own facilities or any commercial facility acceptable tothe purchaser. The
28、purchaser reserves the right to perform anyof the inspections and tests set forth where such are deemednecessary to assure that supplies conform to prescribed require-ments. Nonconforming manhole cover assemblies shall not beoffered for delivery.10.2 InspectionThe dimensions of the manhole coverasse
29、mbly and its components shall be checked to ensure thatthey are within specified tolerances.10.3 Test MethodsEach manhole cover assembly shall bedesigned to the pressure listed in Table 1 and tested to apressure equal to 1.5 times the design prerssure. The testpressure shall be held for a minimum of
30、 5 min. There shall beno visible sign of leakage, permanent deformation, or otherindications of structural failure of the manhole cover assembly.10.3.1 Before delivery, manhole cover assemblies shall becertified as to their watertight and oiltight integrity. Groups ofmanhole cover assemblies whose r
31、epresentative samples passthe tightness test shall be certified for watertight and oiltightintegrity to their design pressure.11. Product Marking11.1 Each manhole cover assembly shall be marked with thepurchase order number, item number from purchase order,ASTM designation number, type, grade, class
32、, and manufac-turers name. Marking may be by paint, stencil, or weather-proof tag.12. Packaging and Package Marking12.1 Unless otherwise specified, packaging shall conform tomanufacturers normal commercial practice, and in such aF 1144 98 (2007)2manner that will ensure acceptance by common carrier a
