Scope1.1 This safety specification covers the safety design fea-tures of stationary exercise bicycles. The
3、 device shall beassembled in accordance with the manufacturers instructionsfor safe use.1.2 This standard is limited to exercise bicycles of:1.2.1 Class ANon-free-wheeling exercise bicycles with adirectly driven flywheel.1.2.2 Class BFree-wheeling exercise bicycles.1.2.3 Class CErgometer bicycles, o

7、 bicycle, nstationary exercise bi-cycle intended for use by one person or family unit in a homeenvironment.3.1.2 flywheel, na heavy wheel for opposing and moder-ating, by its inertia, fluctuations of speed in the exercise bicycleon which it revolves.3.1.3 freewheel, na device that allows the driver
8、bicyclewheel to run on, free from the drive sprocket when motion ofthe pedals is stopped.3.1.4 institutional exercise bicycle, nstationary exercisebicycle intended for use by numerous persons in a commercialor institutional, as opposed to a home, environment.3.1.5 stationary exercise bicycle, na “bi
9、cycle-like” fixeddevice, on which performance is achieved by means of apedaling motion applied by the user. General Requirements4.1 Stability:4.1.1 The bicycle shall be stable in a statically loadedcondition and shall not tip forward, backward or sideward.4.1.2 The bicycle base of support shall not tilt when force isapplied.4.1.3 The bicycle structure to which the horizontal force isapplied sha
13、ll not break or be permanently deformed.4.1.4 The tests for stability shall be conducted in accordancewith 7.1.4.2 Exterior Design:4.2.1 All edges of parts accessible to the user or to bystand-ers shall be burr-free, rounded, or otherwise guarded.4.2.2 The design of rotating and moving parts which a
14、reaccessible to the user shall avoid shear, pinch, or catch points.4.2.3 Spokes must not be accessible.4.2.4 Dangerous points of drive train components shall beguarded.4.2.5 Adjustment devices such as knobs and pins and framecomponents, and so forth, (for example, handlebars) shall notbe within the
15、range of normal leg movements.4.2.6 The tests for the safety of exterior design shall beconducted in accordance with 7.2.5. Performance Requirements5.1 Overheating:5.1.1 No accessible metallic part shall have a temperature ofmore than 140F (60C). No accessible nonmetallic part shallhave a temperatur
16、e greater than 185F (85C).5.1.2 The test for overheating shall be conducted in accor-dance with 7.3.5.2 Frame and Seat Post Retention AssemblyThe test forframe and seat post clamp assembly shall be conducted inaccordance with 7.4.5.3 Seat Post and Seat:5.3.1 The seat shall be adjustable as prescribe
17、d by themanufacturers specifications.5.3.1.1 The seat post shall have a permanent visual markindicating a maximum extension. At maximum extension, noless than 2.0 in. (5.1 cm) of the seat post shall be engaged in thesupport structure. No mark is required if the minimum inser-tion depth is already pr
18、ovided by the design. The seat shall bemounted onto the post with a steel seat pan, shouldered seatpost, capped seat bracket, or any other device that protects theuser from impalement in case of failure of the seat or seat post.5.3.2 When properly adjusted according to the manufactur-ers specificati
19、ons, the seat shall not tilt.5.3.3 The test for seats shall be conducted in accordancewith 7.5.5.4 Handlebars:5.4.1 If a vertical shaft adjustment is used, a visual perma-nent mark of 2.5 in. 20、ndicate the minimum insertion depth. No mark isrequired if the minimum insertion depth is already provided bythe design.5.4.2 The handlebars shall not rotate around its horizontalaxis when a moment of 45 ft-lb (61.00 N-m) is applied(excepting when the handle is purposely in motion as part ofthe exer
21、cise).5.4.3 The handlebar stem shall not rotate around its verticalaxis when a moment of 35 ft-lb (47.00 N-m) is applied(excepting when the handle is purposely in motion as part ofthe exercise).5.4.4 The test for handlebars shall be conducted in accor-dance with 7.6.5.5 Pedals:5.5.1 Pedals shall hav
22、e right hand/left hand symmetry. Anonslip tread surface shall be present on the surface presentedto the riders foot. A minimum clearance of 1.5-in. (3.81-cm)shall be provided below the pedals when they are in ahorizontal position at the lowest level. The pedals shall notpermanently deform under use.
23、5.5.2 The test of the pedals shall be conducted in accordancewith 7.7.6. Documentation6.1 Owners/Users ManualAn owners/users manualshall be provided with the exercise bicycle. Paragraphs 6.2-6.8set forth the sections to be covered in this manual. The firsttopic of the manual shall be a comprehensive
24、 listing of thesafety precautions applicable to the exercise bicycle. Thislisting shall alert the reader to the following:6.1.1 Read all warnings posted on the exercise bicycle.6.1.2 Read the owners/users manual and follow it care-fully before using the exercise bicycle.6.1.3 Keep children away from
25、 the exercise bicycle.6.1.4 Set up and operate the exercise bicycle on a solid levelsurface.6.1.5 Inspect the exercise bicycle for worn or loose compo-nents prior to use. Tighten/replace any loose or worn compo-nents prior to using.6.1.6 Consult a physician prior to commencing an exerciseprogram. If
26、, at any time during exercise, you feel faint, dizzy,or experience pain, stop and consult your physician.6.1.7 Do not wear loose or dangling clothing while using theexercise bicycle.6.1.8 Care should be taken in mounting or dismounting theexercise bicycle.6.1.9 Consumer exercise bicycles shall conta
27、in notificationthat the exercise bicycle is for consumer use only.6.2 Assembly InstructionsIf the exercise bicycle requiresassembly, a manual shall be supplied detailing the assemblyprocedures for the bicycle.6.2.1 Exercise bicycles requiring assembly shall include alisting of the tools required for
28、 assembly, even if the tools areprovided by the manufacturer.6.2.2 Exercise bicycles shall include the parts listing for thegiven model, including specific part references.6.2.3 The area required for safe access and operation of theexercise bicycles shall be defined in these instructions.6.2.4 Infor
29、mation relating to the proper adjustment of theseat and handlebars including their minimum insertion depth ofthe adjustment posts shall be provided.6.2.5 Information relating to the procedure for leveling theexercise bicycle shall be provided.6.2.6 Functional and visual inspection of the equipmentsh
30、all be made after assembly is complete.6.2.7 Review of all warnings affixed to the machine shall beprovided.6.3 Operational InstructionsThe function of the exercisebicycle shall be explained in operation instructions. Wherepossible, the use of graphics shall be provided to assist inproper depiction
31、of the use of the equipment. The operationinstructions shall include instructions on how to vary the loador resistance.6.4 Maintenance InstructionsCare and necessary mainte-nance advice shall be provided. This shall include a review ofall applicable warning notices and how replacement warninglabels
32、can be obtained. Special attention shall be drawn tocomponents most susceptible to wear.6.4.1 The safety and integrity designed into the machine canonly be maintained when the exercise bicycle is regularlyexamined for damage and repair. It is the sole responsibility ofthe user/owner or facility oper
33、ator to ensure that regularmaintenance is performed. Worn or damaged components shallbe replaced immediately or the exercise bicycle removed fromservice until the repair is made. Only manufacturer-suppliedcomponents shall be used to maintain/repair the equipment.The maintenance instructions shall ca
34、ll the readers attention tothese facts.6.5 Installation InstructionsInstructions shall be providedwith exercise bicycles that indicates the minimum clearancerequired around each bicycle for safe access to and passagearound the bicycle. These instructions shall provide specifica-tions detailing the d
35、imensions of the exercise bicycle at restand during operation (if different). Procedures for properstorage and movement of the exercise bicycle shall be providedin these instructions.6.6 User Weight RestrictionsMaximum user weight limitsfor the exercise bicycle shall be affixed to the bicycle where
36、theuser can easily read them.6.7 Warnings/Warning LabelsAdequate warnings alertingusers, third parties, and service personnel to hazards associatedwith exercise bicycles shall be provided. Warning labels shallbe designed in accordance with Specification F 1749. Warninglabels shall include those spec
37、ified in Specification F 1749,additional warnings appropriate and specific to a manufactur-ers given exercise bicycle, and the following:6.7.1 Keep children away.6.7.1.1 Class A Exercise Bicycle Warning LabelsClass Aexercise bicycles with inertia exceeding 14 lb-ft2(0.6 kg-m2),as tested in accordanc
38、e with 7.8.1 shall be affixed with a labelin a prominent location addressing the following:(1) Spinning pedals can cause injury.(2) This bike does not free-wheel.(3) Pedal speed should be reduced in a controlled manner.(4) The exercise bicycle should only be used after athorough review of the operat
39、ion manual (consumer exerciseF 1250 00 (2006)3bicycles) or under the direct supervision of a trained instructor(institutional exercise bicycles).6.8 MarkingExercise bicycles shall have identificationaffixed to the product indicating the following:6.8.1 The manufacturers or distributors, or both, nam
40、e,address, and telephone number.6.8.2 Serial and model numbers.6.8.3 Date of manufacture or code number, which includesthe date of manufacture.6.8.4 Classification of the product, if it is intended forconsumer (noninstitutional) use only.7. Test Methods7.1 Stability:7.1.1 These test methods are inte
41、nded to simulate thestability of the exercise bicycle in a statically loaded condition.7.1.2 Apparatus:7.1.2.1 The force measuring or force application systemsshall be of any type that is repeatable and calibrated.7.1.2.2 Suggested devices include:(1) Pulley-weight cable pan system.(2) Cable tensiom
42、eter and strap.(3) Strain-gage transducer and cable and strap.(4) Push-lunge force tester.7.1.3 Procedure:7.1.3.1 Raise the seat to its highest intended safety useposition. The test is to be conducted on level nonskid surface.The bike is to be assembled in accordance with the manufac-turers directio
43、ns.7.1.3.2 Place 220 lb 6 2 % (979 N 6 2 %) load on seat sothat center of gravity of mass is on or above seat level with 6in. (15.2 cm) from the top of the seat. The loading area shall beequal to or less than 1 ft2(12 by 12 in.) (30.5 by 30.5 cm).7.1.3.3 Attach a device to apply a horizontal force a
44、t aheight 30 in. (76.20 cm) from the floor on the seat supportmember. If the maximum seat height is below 30 in., applyforce 3 in. (7.62 cm) below maximum seat height.7.1.3.4 Apply the following forces in the following direc-tions for one test each:(1) Forward force of 40 lb 6 2 % (178 N 6 2 %).(2)
45、Backward force of 25 lb.(3) Side (right and left) force of 20 lb 6 2 % (89 N 6 2 %).7.1.3.5 Each test in each direction shall be held for 10 s.7.2 Exterior Design:7.2.1 All edges of parts directly accessible to the user or tobystanders shall be tested by visual and tactile inspection toensure that t
46、hey are burr-free, rounded, or otherwise guarded.7.2.2 SpokesSpokes shall be tested by visual inspection,measurement, use of a standard tapered test probe, or, anycombination thereof, shall be used to determine accessibility.The standard Underwriters Laboratory (UL) tapered, flexibleprobe shall be u
47、sed.37.2.3 Drive TrainA measuring rod with a diameter of0.365-in. (0.93-cm) and a length of 3.0-in. (7.62-cm) shall beheld to all potentially accessible points between drive traincomponents from all directions. The rod shall not be caught.7.2.4 Safety of adjustment devices (4.2.8) shall be tested by
48、visual inspection.7.3 Overheating:7.3.1 Tests for overheating shall be conducted at a roomtemperature of 75 6 9F (23 6 5C) and a relative humidityof 55 to 75 %. If it is not possible to maintain these conditionsthen the results shall be corrected to 75F.7.3.2 The stationary exercise bicycle shall be
49、 operated at200 W (31.9 N-m or 24 lb-ft for a torque dynamometer) and 60crank r/min for three periods of 20 min with 5-min restintervals for consumer exercise bicycles or one continuous60-min period for institutional exercise bicycles.7.3.3 Temperature is to be recorded without delay at theconclusion of the test period (third 20-min test period forconsumer exercise bicycles).7.4 Frame and Seat Post Retention Assembly:7.4.1 The stationary exercise bicycle shall be set up on asmooth level surface and the seat positioned at the highestintend
