Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification provides the performance character-istics and qualificati

3、on tests required for gasketed mechanicalcouplings including grooved-type mechanical couplings forgrooved end pipe, mechanical restraint couplings for plain endpipe and mechanical compression couplings for plain end pipe.These couplings are for use at temperatures within the recom-mended temperature

4、 range of their respective gaskets. Consultmanufacturer for details.1.2 The values stated in metric units (SI) are to be regardedas the standard. Classification4.1 Gasketed mechanical couplings (GMC) are classifiedinto the following design types:4.1.1 Type I grooved mechanical couplings.4.1.2 Type II plain end mechanical couplings.4.2 The gaskete

11、d mechanical couplings (GMC) are classi-fied into various grades based on successful completion oftesting defined herein. Grades range from approximately 100psi to 4000 psi and vary by GMC manufacturer. Consult GMCmanufacturer for specific grades available.4.3 The gasketed mechanical couplings (GMC)

12、 are classi-fied by the following joint characteristics:4.3.1 Class 1rigid and restrained.4.3.2 Class 2flexible and restrained.4.3.3 Class 3flexible and unrestrained.5. Ordering Information5.1 Orders for GMC (Gasketed Mechanical Couplings)under this specification shall include the following:5.1.1 AS

13、TM designation, title, number and year of issue,5.1.2 Quantity (number of gasketed mechanical couplings),5.1.3 Size and appropriate suffix (examples: 8 in. NPS, 76.1mm OD),5.1.4 Type (I, II),5.1.5 Grade (consult GMC manufacturer),5.1.6 Class (joint characteristic),5.1.7 Housing material and finish,5

14、.1.8 Gasket material,5.1.9 Bolt (stud) and nut material and finish,5.1.10 Supplementary requirements, if any,5.1.11 Other requirements agreed to between purchaser andGMC manufacturer.5.2 Optional Ordering Requirements:5.2.1 Certification requirements,5.2.2 Special marking requirements.6. Materials a

15、nd Manufacture6.1 Type IGrooved Mechanical Coupling:6.1.1 Grooved Mechanical Coupling Housings:6.1.1.1 Ferrous MaterialsHousings shall be constructedof ductile iron in accordance with SpecificationA 395/A 395MGrade 604018 or 654515, Specification A 536, Grade65-45-12 or malleable iron in accordance

16、with SpecificationA 47/A 47M, Grade 32510 or 35018.6.1.1.2 Grooved mechanical coupling housings shall becoated with the manufacturers standard preparation and paint,or at the purchasers option, hot-dip galvanized in accordancewith Specification A 153/A 153M, or other finish as agreedupon between pur

18、y housings shall be bare,anodized in accordance with Specification B 580 or as other-wise agreed between purchaser and manufacturer.6.1.1.5 Iron-chromium-nickel, corrosion resistant material:Housings shall be constructed of iron-chromium-nickel alloy inaccordance with Specification A 743/A 743M, Gra

19、de CF-8 orGrade CF-8M.6.1.1.6 Finish for iron-chromium-nickel shall be bare orotherwise agreed between purchaser and manufacturer.6.1.2 Grooved Mechanical CouplingGaskets shall be ofmaterials suitable for the intended service. Elastomers shallcomply with Classification System D 2000.6.1.3 Grooved Me

20、chanical CouplingBolting:6.1.3.1 Carbon Steel MaterialBolts shall be in accor-dance with Specification A 183, Grade 2, Oval Neck. Nutsshall be in accordance with Specification A 194/A 194M,Grade 2. Finish shall be black or at the purchasers option, zincelectroplated to Specification B 633.6.1.3.2 Co

21、rrosion Resistant MaterialBolts shall be inaccordance with Specification A 193/A 193M, Grade B 8,Class 2 (AISI Type 304) or Specification A 193/A 193M,Grade B 8M, Class 2 (AISI Type 316). Nuts shall be inaccordance with Specification A 194/A 194M Grade 8.6.2 Type IIPlain End Mechanical Coupling:6.2.

22、1 Plain End Mechanical Coupling Housings or CenterSleeves:6.2.1.1 Cast Ferrous MaterialsCast housings or centersleeves shall be constructed of ductile iron in accordance withSpecification A 395/A 395M Grade 604018 or 654515,Specification A 536, Grade 65-45-12 or malleable iron inaccordance with Spec

23、ification A 47/A 47M, Grade 32510 or35018.6.2.1.2 Steel MaterialsEnd rings and sleeves made fromcarbon or stainless steel shall be made from material with aminimum yield strength of 172 MPa (25,000 PSI).6.2.1.3 Plain end mechanical couplings shall be coated withthe manufacturers standard preparation

24、 and paint or otherfinish as agreed upon between the purchaser and manufacturer.Finish for iron chromium-nickel parts shall be bare or other-wise agreed upon between purchaser and manufacturer.6.2.2 Plain End Mechanical CouplingGaskets shall be ofmaterials suitable for the intended service (consult

25、manufac-turer for recommendation). Elastomer shall comply with Clas-sification System D 2000 or BS 2494.6.2.3 Plain End Mechanical CouplingBolting:6.2.3.1 Carbon Steel MaterialBolts shall be in accor-dance with Specification A 183, Grade 2, Oval Neck orSpecification A 325Type 2 Heavy Hex; Cap screws

26、 shall bein accordance with Specification A 574 or BS 6104; Femalethreaded parts, other than nuts, shall be in accordance withSpecification A 183, Grade 2; Nuts, if required, shall conformto SpecificationA 183, Grade 2 or SpecificationA 563GradeC3or DH3, or as otherwise agreed by purchaser and manuf

Finish shall be zinc electroplated to Specification B 633or BS 1706.6.2.3.2 Corrosion Resistant MaterialBolts or threadedfemale parts other than nuts shall be in accordance withSpecification A 193/A 193M, Grade B 8, Class 2 (AISI Type304) or Grade B 8M, Class 2 (AISI Type 316); Cap screwss

28、hall be in accordance with F 837 or BS 6105; Nuts, ifFIG. 4 Type IIClass 3 Typical ConstructionF 1476 074required, shall be in accordance with Specification A 194/A 194M, Grade 8 or as agreed upon by purchaser andmanufacturer.6.3 Other MaterialsWhere other materials are required,the material and mec

29、hanical properties of the product shall beas agreed upon by the GMC manufacturer and the purchaser.6.4 Material Quality:6.4.1 The material shall be of such quality and purity thatthe finished product shall have the properties and characteris-tics to meet the performance requirements of this standard

30、.6.4.2 The manufacturer is encouraged to use materialsproduced from recovered materials to the maximum extentpracticable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term“recovered materials” means: “Materials which have beencollected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed tobecome a source of

31、raw material, as opposed to virgin rawmaterials.” Used or rebuilt products shall not be used.7. Other Requirements7.1 Testing Requirements:7.1.1 GMC shall be subjected to the tests described in theAnnex for the purpose of qualifying the GMC design.7.1.2 These tests shall be repeated when changes are

32、 madein the design, material, or manufacturing process that degradethe performance of the GMC. Degradation determination is tobe made by the manufacturer or at agreement between themanufacturer and purchaser.7.2 Qualification Requirements:7.2.1 GMC shall be qualified using specimens of the sametype,

33、 grade and class. Each type, grade, and class shall betested in order to qualify the design. Qualification of the GMCrequires successful completion of required testing. Each GMCdesign is only qualified for use on the pipe or fitting materialand wall thickness on which it was tested.7.2.2 All GMCs te

34、sted shall be comprised of an equalnumber of specimens from the smallest, most intermediatesize, and largest sizes within the size range of the GMC beingqualified.7.2.3 Through reasonable interpolations between the GMCsizes tested, other sizes of GMCs within the same type, gradeand class will be con

35、sidered qualified if the specimens accord-ing to 7.2.2 pass the testing requirements. Extrapolation shallnot be used for qualification purposes.7.3 Qualification Test Report:7.3.1 Upon completion of testing, a qualification test reportshall be written and maintained on file during the life cycle oft

36、he design. A copy of this report shall be made available forinspection at the manufacturers facility.7.3.2 Any failure during qualification testing shall be ana-lyzed and the failure analysis and corrective action shall beincluded in the qualification test report.7.3.3 Aretest as specified in Sectio

37、n 11 (number of tests andretests) may be allowed when failure to the original jointoccurs during qualification testing. When retesting is permit-ted, the failure analysis and corrective action shall be includedin the qualification test report specified in 7.3.1.7.4 Test Equipment and Inspection Faci

38、lities:7.4.1 Test equipment and inspection facilities shall be ofsufficient accuracy and quality to permit performance ofrequired inspections and tests.7.4.2 Calibration System RequirementsThe testing andinspection facilities shall maintain a calibration system forMeasuring and Test Equipment (Mthat

39、 is, joint.12.2.2 The intermixing of sub-components of the same type,grade, and class, but of different brands or trade name,constitutes non-compliance with this standard.12.2.3 Test specimens used in testing shall be assembledusing a GMC of a single type, grade and class.12.2.4 The wall thickness a

40、nd O.D. size of the pipe or fittingshall be as specified for the GMC joint being qualified.12.3 Identification of Test Specimens:12.3.1 Each test specimen shall be identified with a uniquenumber to provide traceability back to the test records.12.3.2 Identification of test specimens shall be permane

41、nt.In those cases where size or design does not permit permanentmarkings, tagging or bagging may be used.12.3.2.1 When, as a result of testing, a test specimen issectioned into two (2) or more pieces, each piece shall bemarked with the original unique identification number.12.4 Test specimens may be

42、 disposed of following approvalof the qualification test report by the GMC manufacturer.13. Test Methods13.1 Standard Qualification Tests for GMC shall be asspecified in theAnnex.The following tests described herein arerequired for GMC qualification as applicable to the type, gradeand class.Name of

44、ex A1013.2 Certification of Test Results:13.2.1 When specified in the purchase order or the contract,the purchaser shall be furnished certification that samplesrepresenting the GMC have been tested as directed in thisspecification and the requirements have been met. Whenspecified in the purchase ord

45、er or contract, a report of theresults shall be available for inspection at the manufacturersfacility.13.3 In-Process Material TestsIn-Process Material Testsshall be performed in accordance with manufacturers standardin-process test procedures.14. Inspection14.1 Terms of Inspection:14.1.1 Inspection

46、 of GMC shall be in accordance withmanufacturers standard inspection procedure or as agreedupon between the purchaser and the manufacturer or supplieras part of the purchase contract.14.2 Raw Material Inspection:F 1476 07614.2.1 Raw material shall be inspected for compliance withits material specifi

47、cation. A certificate of compliance or millcertificate shall be obtained from the material supplier, asapplicable.14.3 Quality Conformance Inspection:14.3.1 GMC samples shall be visually and dimensionallyexamined to verify compliance with the manufacturers appro-priate drawings.14.4 Process Control

48、Inspection:14.4.1 GMC shall be inspected throughout the entire manu-facturing and processing cycle. Methods of inspection shall bein compliance with manufacturers quality assurance proce-dures.14.5 Inspection Records:14.5.1 Inspection records shall be maintained by the manu-facturer. The length of t

49、ime on file shall be in accordance withthe manufacturers quality assurance procedures.15. Certification15.1 Certification of Testing (see 13.2).15.2 Certification of Material.15.2.1 A certificate of compliance shall be obtained fromthe material supplier, when applicable. This certificate shallstate that applicable requirements for the raw material havebeen met. As a minimum, the material specification shallspecify the chemical and mechanical requirements of thematerial, as applicable.16. Product Marking16.1 Product Mark
