12、oriented poly(vinylchloride) plastics. PVCO pipe is PVC pressure pipe whichattains a relatively high strength by reorienting the molecules.Conventionally extruded PVC pipe is expanded circumferen-tially (for example, 2-in. diameter is expanded to 4-in. diam-eter) through the application of pressure

Theexpansion reorients the PVC molecular structure in the hoopdirection, thereby increasing the material strength.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F17 on PlasticPiping Systems and is the direct respons

The pipe shall be asuniform as commercially practicable in color, opacity, density, and ot

Test Methods7.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimen at 73.4 63.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity for not lessthan 40 h prior to test in accordance with Procedure A of

39、Practice D 618 for those tests where conditioning is required.7.2 Test ConditionsConduct the tests in the standardlaboratory atmosphere of 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 65 % relative humidity, unless otherwise specified in the testmethods or in this specification.7.3 SamplingThe selection of the samp

In case of no prior agreement, the sample selection of themanufacturer shall be deemed adequate.7.3.1 Test SpecimensNot less than 50 % of the test speci-mens required for any pressure test shall have at least a part of

41、the marking in their central sections. The central section is thatportion of pipe which is at least one pipe diameter away froman end closure.7.4 Sustained Pressure TestSelect the test specimens atrandom. Test individually with water at the internal pressuregiven in Table 5, six specimens of pipe, e

42、ach specimen shall be3 ft long (1000 mm) between end closures and bearing thepermanent marking on the pipe. Maintain the specimens at thepressure indicated for a period of 1000 h. Hold the pressure asclosely as possible, but within 610 psi (670 kPa). Conditionthe specimens at the test temperature of

43、 73.46 3.6F (23 62C).7.4.1 Maintain the test temperature at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 62C). Test in accordance with Test Methods D 1598, exceptmaintain the pressure at the values given in Table 5 for 1000 h.Failure of two of six specimens tested shall constitute failure inthe test. Failure of one of the six s

44、pecimens tested is cause forretest of six additional specimens. Failure of one of the sixspecimens tested in retest shall constitute failure in the test.Evidence of failure of the pipe shall be as defined in TestMethods D 1598.7.5 Accelerated Regression TestTest in accordance withprocedures in Test

45、Methods D 1598, except that restrained endfittings shall be permitted to be employed. A minimum of sixsamples will be tested at pressures selected to yield data pointsas follows:0.010 to 0.099 h (36 s to 6 min)0.10 to 0.999 h (6 min to 1 h)1.00 to 9.999 h10.0 to 99.999 h100.0 to 100+ h0 to 100+ h (r

Characterize the results using the least squares ex-trapolation described in Test Method D 2837.NOTE 3C

47、aution: Since rupture of the test specimen is expected inquick-burst and high-strength regression testing, well-shielded test equip-ment and protective personal equipment should be used when conductingthe tests.7.6 Burst PressureDetermine the minimum burst pressurewith at least five specimens in acc

48、ordance with Test MethodD 1599, having the lengths specified in 7.4. The time of testingof each specimen shall be not less than 60 s.NOTE 4Times greater than 60 s may be needed to bring the larger-sized specimens to the burst pressure. The test is more difficult to passusing greater pressuring times

49、.7.7 FlatteningFlatten three specimens of the pipe, 2 in.(50 mm) long, between parallel plates in a suitable press untilthe distance between the plates is 40 % of the outside diameterof the pipe. The rate of loading shall be uniform and such thatthe compression is completed within 2 to 5 min. Upon removalof the load, examine the specimens for evidence of splitting, cracking, or breaking.7.8 Impact ResistanceDetermine the impact resistance inaccordance with the specification requirement section of TestMethod D 2444.
