、Designation: F1506 10aStandard Performance Specification forFlame Resistant and Arc Rated Textile Materials for WearingApparel for Use by Electrical Workers Exposed toMomentary Electric Arc and Related Thermal Hazards1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F1506; the number immediately

、following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This perform

、ance specification covers the flame resis-tance of textile materials to be used for wearing apparel for useby electrical workers exposed to momentary electric arc andrelated thermal hazards.NOTE 1This performance specification does not cover coated fabricscommonly used in rainwear.NOTE 2At present,

、a bench scale arc test for laboratory use is notavailable. It is the intent of the committee to continue the search for anacceptable laboratory test based on either an electric arc exposure or anacceptable alternative, which will form the basis of a modification of thisperformance specification.1.2

、Materials used for basic protection levels are covered.1.3 Protective properties relate to thermal exposure frommomentary arc and associated exposure to open flame andradiant heat. (See Appendix X1.)1.4 This performance specification covers wearing appareldesign characteristics that relate specifica

、lly to protection fromexposure to momentary electric arc and that relate to the utilityof the wearing apparel.NOTE 3A number of other thermal test methods are under consider-ation and development and, when evaluated and proved effective byCommittee F18, will be incorporated in either this performanc

、e specifi-cation or an appropriate alternative test method or specification.1.5 This standard should be used to evaluate and describethe properties of materials, products, or assemblies in responseto heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions. Itshould not be used to describe or appraise

、the fire hazard orfire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fireconditions.1.5.1 The results of this evaluation may be used as elementsof a fire-risk assessment that takes into account all of thefactors that are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard ofa particular end use.

、1.6 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.7 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion, Section 7, of this performance specifica-tion: This standard does not purport to address all o
