Theanchor bolts are furnished in three strength grades, two threadclasses, and in the sizes specified in Section 4.1.2 The anchor bolts are intended for anchoring structuralsupports to concrete foundations. Such structural supportsinclude building column
4、s, column supports for highway signs,street lighting and traffic signals, steel bearing plates, andsimilar applications.1.3 Supplementary requirements are included to provide forGrade 55 weldable steel, permanent manufacturers and gradeidentification, and impact properties for Grades 55 and 105.1.4

Ordering Information5.1 Orders for anchor bolts should include the followinginformation:5.1.1 Quantity (Number of Pieces)If the purchaser in-tends to perform destructiv
20、e tests on finished anchor bolts, themanufacturer should be advised so that an adequate number areproduced, especially for the sizes and types not readilyavailable from stock.5.1.2 Name of product (steel anchor bolt).5.1.3 ASTM designation and year of issue.5.1.4 Grade and class, that is, Grade 36,
21、55, or 105 andClass 1A or 2A. Weldable Grade 55 may be furnished whenGrade 36 is ordered (see 4.1).5.1.5 Copper, if copper bearing steel is required.5.1.6 Size and DimensionsInclude the diameter andthreads (based on nominal thread diameter), bolt length, threadlength, and length of hook if a hook is

Materials and Manufacture6.1 ProcessSteel for anchor bolts shall be made by theopen-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace process.6.2 ThreadingThreads shall be rolled, cut, or ground atthe option of the manufacturer, unless otherwise specified.6.3 Heat Treatment:6.3.1 When required, the
27、anchor bolts may be heat treated todevelop the specified properties. Heat treatment shall be at theoption of the manufacturer.6.3.2 Heat treatment may be performed prior to or afterbending or threading.6.3.3 When heat treatment is required, the anchor bolts shallbe heat treated by quenching in a liq
28、uid medium from abovethe transformation temperature and then tempering by reheat-ing to a temperature not less than 800F (425C) for Grade 55and 1100F (593C) for Grade 105.6.4 Bending:6.4.1 When required, hooks, shall be made by cold bendingor hot bending.The bent portion shall be free from cracks wh
29、enexamined at 103 magnification after bending.6.4.2 Hot bending performed on bar stock without heattreatment shall not have the temperature exceed 1300F(705C) at any location during hot bending and shall beallowed to air cool after bending.6.4.3 Hot bending performed on heat-treated bar stock shalln
30、ot have the temperature come within 100F (56C) of thetempering (stress relieve) temperature of the heat-treat processat any location during hot bending and shall be allowed to aircool after bending.6.4.4 The bending shall not reduce the cross-sectional areabelow that required in 10.3.6.5 Secondary P
31、rocessingIf a subcontractor, or partyother than the manufacturer or producer, performs heat treat-ment, coating, welding, machining, or other process affectingthe properties or performance of the anchor bolts, the anchorbolts shall be inspected and tested after such processing by theparty responsibl

35、oof load stress equal to or higher than theminimum tensile strength specified for the anchor bolt.6.7 Recommended Washers:6.7.1 The washer material and dimensions shall be specifiedin the inquiry and the order (see Note 2).6.7.2 Unless the requirement of 6.7.1 is met, washersconforming to the requir
36、ements of Specification F 436, Type 1shall be furnished.6.7.3 When anchor bolts are specified to be zinc coated, thewashers shall be zinc coated as specified in 7.1, except that thecoating process for the washers need not be the same as that forthe anchor bolts and nuts.NOTE 2Washers used on anchor
37、bolts, installed in holes with dimen-sions greater than oversize or short slot as defined by the Research Councilon Structural Connections, require design consideration. (For guidancerefer to Specification for Structural Joints Using ASTM A 325 or A 490Bolts.)7. Protective Coatings7.1 Zinc, Hot Dip
38、or Mechanically DepositedSpecification F 2329, and mechanically deposited, Specifica-tion B 695, Class 50.7.1.1 When zinc-coated anchor bolts with the coating speci-fied in 7.1 are required, the purchaser shall specify the zinccoating process, for example, hot dip, mechanically deposited,or no prefe
39、rence.7.1.2 When hot-dip is specified, the fasteners shall be zinccoated by the hot-dip process in accordance with the require-ments of Specification F 2329 .7.1.3 When mechanically deposited is specified, the fasten-ers shall be zinc coated by the mechanical deposition processin accordance with the
40、 requirements of Class 50 of Specifica-tion B 695.7.1.4 When no preference is specified, the supplier mayfurnish either a hot-dip zinc coating in accordance withSpecification F 2329 , or a mechanically deposited zinc coatingin accordance with Specification B 695, Class 50. Threadedcomponents (bolts
41、and nuts) shall be coated by the samezinc-coating process, and the suppliers option is limited to oneprocess per item, with no mixed processes in a lot.7.2 Other Coatings:7.2.1 Coatings other than the zinc coatings specified in 7.1shall be as specified by the purchaser on the purchase order.7.2.2 Th
42、e complete specification shall be included as part ofthe purchase order when other coatings are specified.8. Chemical Composition8.1 Anchor bolts shall have a chemical composition con-forming to the requirements listed in Table 1 for Grade 36 andTable 2 for Grades 55 and 105.8.2 Grade 55 ordered as
43、weldable shall conform to therequirements specified in Supplementary Requirement S1.8.3 Anchor bolts made from low-carbon martensitic steelshall not be permitted.8.4 The application of heats of steel to which bismuth,selenium, tellurium, or lead has been added intentionally shallnot be permitted.8.5
44、 Product analyses may be made by the purchaser fromfinished anchor bolts representing each heat. The chemicalcomposition thus determined shall conform to the requirementsspecified in 8.1 through 8.4.9. Mechanical Properties9.1 BarsThe bars or rods from which the anchor bolts aremade shall conform to
45、 the tensile properties listed in Table 3,except when heat treated after bending or threading.9.2 Anchor BoltsThe finished anchor bolts shall conformto the tensile properties listed in Table 3 for tests on machinedspecimens and Table 4 for axial tests on full-size threadedanchor bolts.10. 46、t Dimensions10.1 Nominal SizeThe nominal anchor bolt diameter shallbe the same as the nominal thread diameter.10.2 Body Diameter:10.2.1 When threads are rolled, the body diameter shall notbe less than the minimum pitch diameter for the thread class,1A or 2A, designated by the purchaser and specified
