Scope1.1 This specification covers the requirements for direct andindirect reading sight liquid level indicators for general appli-cations. General applications for indirect reading sight glassesare water and fuel se
4、rvice at working pressures 2.07 MPa (300lb/in.2) and below, temperatures of 149C (300F) and below.General applications for direct reading sight glasses are appli-cations in which the temperature does not exceed 66C(150F).1.2 Direct reading sight glass indicators may consist of glassor plastic tubes
5、with fittings including shutoff valves. Glasstubes may be used for low shock direct reading sight glassindicators in which the fluid is not compatible with plastic.1.3 Indirect reading indicators may consist of a sealedchamber with a magnetic float or flag indicator.1.4 Special requirements for nava

Materials and Manufa
20、cture6.1 MaterialsThe materials for all wetted parts shall beselected for long-term compatibility with the process mediumand ambient conditions.6.2 Material InspectionThe manufacturer shall be respon-sible for ensuring that materials used are manufactured,examined, and tested in accordance with the
21、specifications andstandards as applicable.6.3 Gaskets and O-RingsGaskets and O-rings shall befabricated of materials suitable to the operating pressure,temperature, and process medium for each application.7. Physical Properties7.1 ConnectionsSight indicators are usually installed us-ing standard pip
22、e fittings or flanges. Pipe fittings and materialshould match that of the existing pipe for each installation.Type and size of fittings shall be specified in the acquisitionrequirements. Welding or brazing shall be performed in accor-dance with industry standards.7.2 Flanged ConnectionsWhere sight i
23、ndicators are in-stalled using flanges, flanges shall be in accordance with ANSIB16.5. Standard flange sizes include 1.27 cm (12 in.), 1.9 cm(34 in.), 2.54 cm (1 in.), 3.8 cm (1-12 in.), and 5.08 cm (2 in.).Standard flange pressure ratings include 1.034 MPa (150 psi),2.07 MPa (300 psi), and 4.14 MPa
24、 (600 psi). Other flangerequirements shall be specified in the acquisition requirements.7.3 Vent and Drain ConnectionsWhere required, vent anddrain connections are usually plugged,12-or34-in. NPT orwith NPT valves. Other vent and drain connections shall bespecified in the acquisition requirements.8.
25、 Performance Requirements8.1 Performance ConsiderationsIn many applications,certain performance characteristics are deemed critical to theintended or desired function of a sight liquid level indicator.The following are prime examples:(1) Accuracy,(2) Shock and vibration classifications, and(3) Opera
26、ting pressure and temperature ranges.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 Finish and AppearanceAny special surface finish andappearance requirements shall be specified in the acquisitionrequirements.9.2 Sight Glass CleaningAny special cleaning require-ments shall be specified in the acquisition
27、 requirements.10. Inspection10.1 Classification of InspectionsThe inspection require-ments specified herein are classified as follows:(1) Qualification testing and(2) Quality conformance testing.10.2 Qualification TestingQualification test requirementsshall be specified where applicable. Qualificati
28、on test methodsshould be identified for each design and performance charac-teristic specified. Test report documentation requirementsshould also be specified.10.3 Quality Conformance TestingQuality conformancetesting is accomplished when qualification testing was satisfiedby a previous acquisition o
29、r product has demonstrated reliabil-ity in similar applications. Quality conformance testing isusually less intensive than qualification, often verifying thatsamples of a production lot meet a few critical performancerequirements.11. Number of Tests and Retests11.1 Test SpecimenThe number of test sp
30、ecimens to besubjected to qualification testing shall depend on the design. Ifeach range is covered by a separate and distinct design, a testspecimen for each range will require testing. In instances inwhich a singular design series may cover multiple ranges andtypes, only three test specimens need
31、be tested provided thephysical similarities are approved by the buyer. In no case,however, shall less than three units, one unit each representinglow, medium, and high ranges, be tested, regardless of designsimilarity.12. Test Methods12.1 TestsAll tests shall be performed in accordance withASTM, ASM
32、E, or industry standards as specified.12.2 Test DataAll test data shall remain on file at themanufacturers facility for review by the buyer upon request. Itis recommended that test data be retained in the manufacturersfiles for at least three years or a period of time acceptable to thebuyer and manu
33、facturer.13. Quality Assurance Provisions13.1 WarrantyUnless otherwise specified, the manufac-turer is responsible for the following:(1) All materials used to produce a unit and(2) Manufacturer will warrant his product to be free fromdefect of workmanship to produce the unit.14. Certification14.1 Wh
34、en specified in the purchase order or contract, thebuyer shall be furnished certification that samples representingeach lot have been either tested or inspected as directed in thisspecification and the requirements have been met. Whenspecified in the purchase order or contract, a report of the testr
35、esults shall be furnished.15. Product Marking15.1 User-specified product marking shall be listed in theacquisition requirements.16. Packaging and Package Marking16.1 Packaging of Product for DeliveryProduct shall bepackaged for shipment in accordance with Practice D3951.16.2 Any special preservation
