Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONWhile test methods exist to measure penetration of airborne particles throug

3、h barrier specimens, thedata are not reported in a standard fashion. To be useful, such data should be combined withinformation that characterizes the test method employed. This information includes descriptions of testmaterials, challenge particles, test apparatus, methods used to count and measure

4、 the particles, and testparameters such as flow rate, pressure drop, humidity, and temperature. The flow rate, pressure drop,particle size, and detection limits are of particular importance when comparing data from differentsources during the selection of protective clothing. Some reports on particl

5、e barrier testing do notinclude such specificity. This guide provides a standard format for recording important test parameterinformation and data. The standard format is intended to facilitate the use of electronic databases tostore, retrieve, and apply test results.1. Scope1.1 This guide provides

6、a format for documenting informa-tion and performance data for an airborne particle penetrationtest.1.2 Documented data and information are grouped into fivecategories that define important aspects of each test:1.2.1 Description of material tested,1.2.2 Challenge particles,1.2.3 Test method,1.2.4 Te

7、st results, and1.2.5 Source of the data.1.3 Use of this guide is facilitated by adherence to proce-dures outlined in a standard test method.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. No other units of measurements are included in thisstandard.1.5 This international standard was

8、 developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards, Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.2. Significa

9、nce and Use2.1 This guide is intended to encourage thorough andconsistent documentation of airborne particle penetration test-ing and its results.2.2 Uniform information and performance data increase thelikelihood of selecting proper particle protective clothing bydirect comparison of one material w

10、ith another.2.3 A standard format for test information and data alsoencourages computer storage of test results for easy retrieval,comparison, and correlations.3. Data Fields3.1 The reporting format is shown in Fig. A1.1.3.2 If a particular field is not applicable to the testingperformed, insert “no

11、t applicable” in that field. If a particularpiece of data has not been obtained, insert “no data” or“unknown” in the field.3.3 A description of each field of information follows:3.3.1 Description of Material TestedIdentification of thespecific protective clothing material tested to facilitate future

12、identification of the test materials.3.3.1.1 Material IdentificationThe manufacturers code,model number, catalog number or “brand name” whichuniquely describes the material tested.3.3.1.2 Material DescriptionA unique generic descriptionof the material composition and construction, such as thecomposi

16、of the manufacturer. Ifunknown, then enter the source of the tested material.3.3.1.4 Lot Identification or Manufacture DateThe pro-duction lot/batch identification, date or code that uniquelyidentifies the material tested. If this information cannot befound, enter the earliest date that the actual t

17、est sample wasknown to exist, for example, the purchase date, the suppliersstocking data, the shipping date, date of receipt, or testing date.3.3.1.5 ThicknessThe nominal thickness, in mm, of thebarrier material and the test method by which this measurementwas made.3.3.1.6 Basis WeightThe nominal ba

18、sis weight, in g/m2,ofthe barrier material and the test method by which this mea-surement was taken.3.3.1.7 Treatment Before TestingTreatment of the materialspecimen prior to testing. Examples are “new,” “laundered,”“flexed,” “abraded,” “after two weeks production usage,” and“after decontamination.”

19、 Any laundering or decontaminatingprocedures should be described or referenced. If a standardmethod is used to prepare or pre-treat the specimens, fullreference to the method, date or version of the method, and anyexceptions to the method should be specified.3.3.2 Challenge Particles:3.3.2.1 Particl

20、e CompositionA description of thecomposition, physical size, and method used to generate thechallenge particles.NOTE 1The exact identity of the challenge particles is essential for theuser to determine if the data will be applicable to the individual situation.3.3.2.2 CAS NumberThe unique registry n

21、umber assignedby the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) of the AmericanChemical Society for each chemical component of the chal-lenge particles.3.3.2.3 Particle Size DistributionRelative volumetric con-centration of particles by physical size range, applicable ifvariable sized particles are utilized.3

22、.3.2.4 SourceThe manufacturers code, model number,catalog number or “brand name” which uniquely describes thechallenge particles.3.3.2.5 Lot Identification or Manufacture DateThe pro-duction lot or batch identification, or date, which uniquelyidentifies the challenge particles that were employed. If

23、 thisinformation cannot be found, enter the earliest date that theactual test sample was known to exist, for example, thepurchase data, the suppliers stocking date, the shipping date,date of receipt, or testing date, in a format such as “ReceivedJanuary 5, 1998.”3.3.3 Technique:3.3.3.1 Test Method U

24、sedReference the specific testmethod used. Include the revision year or version of the test. Ifa standard test is not used, list “none” and provide a completedescription of the method apparatus and procedure such thatsomeone else could duplicate the measurements.3.3.3.2 Deviation from Standard Test

25、MethodSome testingsituations may require modifications to the standard testmethod. Differences from the standard test method in terms ofconditioning, environment, apparatus, duration or challengemust be noted.3.3.3.3 Testing LaboratoryName, address, and telephonenumber of the testing laboratory.3.3.

26、3.4 Analytical MethodThe method used to count andsize the challenge particles, including a generic identificationof the method, description of the test system (if not included inthe test method) and identification of analyzers and compo-nents. The minimum and maximum particle size and particleconcen

27、tration that can be measured by the particle countersshould be described.3.3.3.5 Temperature and HumidityThe temperature (C)and humidity (% RH) of the challenge air stream.3.3.3.6 Test Parameters That May Not Be Specified in theMethod:(1) Exposed Specimen AreaThe surface area, in m2,ofthe test speci

28、men exposed to the challenge particles.(2) Flow RateThe average air flow rate, m3/m2, andstandard deviation, through the test specimens. This value issometimes called face velocity and reported as m/s.(3) Pressure DropThe average pressure difference, inkPa, and standard deviation across the test spe

29、cimens.(4) Challenge ConcentrationThe concentration of par-ticles on the exposed side of the test specimen.(5) Test DurationThe length of time that the specimenswere exposed to the challenge particles.(6) Test SensitivityBased on the minimum detectablepercentage penetration and determined from the r

30、atio of thelowest detectable concentration downstream of the test mate-rial divided by the challenge particle concentration.(7) Particle Size LimitationsThe particle size limita-tions of the analytical method (largest and smallest particlesobservable)3.3.3.7 ControlsDescribe the positive controls us

31、ed todemonstrate the reproducibility of the test.3.3.4 Test Results:3.3.4.1 Date Tested:3.3.4.2 Number of Specimens TestedThe number of repli-cate specimens.3.3.4.3 Location of SpecimensThe part of the protectiveclothing from which the tested specimens were taken.3.3.4.4 Percent PenetrationThe obser

32、ved penetration ofthe challenge particle through each specimen of the testmaterial, expressed as a percentage. Calculate percent penetra-tion by dividing the downstream particles concentration (sam-pling side of specimen) by the upstream particle concentration(challenge side) and multiplying this ra

33、tio by 100. The reportmay report percent penetration for each size range of particles.3.3.4.5 Other ObservationsThese may include data on thechange in penetration rate during the test, visual changes in thespecimens, such as caking of the challenge particle, fibrillationof the specimen surface, or c

34、hanges in physical properties ofthe specimens.3.3.5 Source of DataThe name, address, and telephonenumber of the person completing the report.4.
