Scope1.1 This practice describes the recommended minimuminformation to be conveyed by the sellers to end users for thewea

3、ring, care, and maintenance of chemical protective cloth-ing.1.1.1 This practice does not cover specific instructions forwhen to use protective clothing or design requirements.1.1.2 This practice does not apply to protective clothing thatis solely for protection against flame and thermal hazards.1.2

4、 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.3 This practice

Significance and Use4.1 This practice describes the minimum information to beprovided by the seller to the buyer or end user related to thewearing, care, and maintenance of chemical protective cloth-ing.Adherence to this practice allows written

12、information to beprovided with the protective clothing to purchasers by meansof labels, pamphlets, or other documents.4.2 Not every element of this practice may be applicable toall chemical protective clothing components or configurations.It is the sellers responsibility to determine which portions

13、ofthis practice, and the corresponding requirements, are appli-cable to their protective clothing products. For informationalrequirements that are not applicable because of the nature ofthe product and intended use, the seller is to indicate anddescribe those portions or requirements that are not ap

17、ritten in a manner so that theend user can readily understand the details. To emphasizeimportant limitations, bold lettering and explicit warningterminology (for example, signal words such as Danger,Warning, and Caution (described in ANSI Z535.4) shall beused. Where possible, pictograms and illustra

18、tions shall beused to convey specific instructions. The use of symbols, suchas those provided in the care of textile products in GuideD 5489, are appropriate for indicating specific care proceduresused in cleaning protective clothing.5. General Information and Information Related toWearing5.1 Addres

19、s and Point of Contact InformationThe sellershall provide an address, a contact telephone number, andmeans of electronic communication, as applicable, for ques-tions concerning the proper use, limitations, decontamination,care, and maintenance of the protective clothing. Provision ofa toll-free emer

20、gency number is encouraged but not required.5.2 Safety Considerations, Limitations of Use, and WarrantyInformationThe seller shall provide a list of considerationsfor the safe use of the protective clothing and describe specificlimitations for the use of the protective clothing (for example,DO NOT U

21、SE THIS PROTECTIVE CLOTHING NEAROPEN FLAME OR HIGH HEAT). The seller shall alsoprovide information on the warranty for the protective cloth-ing.5.3 Pre-Use InformationThe seller shall provide informa-tion related for how to mark the protective clothing, how to usespecific product aids, such as closu

22、re lubricants or visor antifogagents, and recommended undergarments and associatedequipment, as applicable. A statement shall be provided to thebuyer or end user that not all performance properties for theprotective clothing can be evaluated in the field.5.4 Sizing InformationThe seller shall provid

23、e informa-tion for the selection of the correct size of the protectiveclothing by the end user and describe any adjustments that canbe made for properly sizing the protective clothing.NOTE 1One way of presenting this information is by using a chartindicating the appropriate size for ranges in key en

24、d user dimensions, suchas height and waist circumference for full body garments.5.5 Donning and Doffng InstructionsThe seller shallprovide instructions to the buyer or end user on the properdonning (putting on and wearing) and doffing (removal) of theprotective clothing. This doffing information sha

25、ll include thespecific warnings about preventing cross-contamination ofother personnel, equipment, and street clothing, as required.5.6 RecordkeepingThe seller shall provide a means fordocumenting the history of the protective clothing to describeits wearing, care, and maintenance.NOTE 2Suggestions

26、for entries under the use portion of the clothingrecords include such items as exposure contaminants, physical state ofcontaminants, use duration, length of exposure, degree or method ofexposure, and temperature and other environmental conditions.6. Information Related to Care Instructions6.1 Inform

27、ation Related to Cleaning:6.1.1 Cleaning InstructionsThe seller shall provide spe-cific instructions for the end user to properly clean, launder, orrefurbish the protective clothing. This information shall in-clude instructions for washing (for example, specific washingmethod, type of washing machin

28、e, machine cycle or formula-tion, detergents or cleaning agent, wash temperature, andpretreatment options) and drying (for example, the dryingmethod, drying temperature, and length of time required).Warnings for limitations on the cleaning of protective clothingsuch as loss of physical integrity or

29、other forms of degradation,shall be included in this section. Additionally, the seller shalldescribe methods to inspect or test for damages to theprotective clothing caused by cleaning or other maintenance, asapplicable.6.2 Decontamination and Disinfection:6.2.1 The seller shall provide specific ins

30、tructions for re-moving various forms of contamination, if decontamination isrecommended. These instructions shall include descriptions ofacceptable processes, the types of contaminants that can besafely removed, the means of handling contaminated or non-sterile garments, the limitations of the proc

31、esses, and all otherinformation of importance to decontamination. This shall alsoinclude information necessary for decontamination while theprotective clothing is being worn by the end user, as appropri-ate, to allow for safe doffing without the hazard of contamina-tion. If known, the seller, shall

32、recommend practices or testmethods to assist in determining if the decontamination hasbeen effective.NOTE 3In the absence of information for determining effectivedecontamination of protective clothing, a warning that all contaminationmay not have been removed is appropriate.6.2.2 The seller shall pr

33、ovide specific instructions for dis-infection of protective clothing, as appropriate, for personalhygiene or other such needs.6.3 StorageThe seller shall provide specific instructionsfor the end user to properly store the protective clothing beforeand after use. This information shall include any sp

34、ecificstorage limitations relative to temperature, humidity, andatmospheric contaminants (for example, ozone and ultraviolet)or other storage limitations including folding. Information onend-of-life indications or how long the clothing can be stored(without use), or both, shall also be included in t

35、his section.NOTE 4The length of time that clothing can be stored assumes thatthe clothing has been properly cared for and maintained in accordancewith manufacturer instructions, and has not been subjected to any wearing.Storage life is a function of clothing material degradation caused bystorage con

36、ditions.6.47. Information Related to Maintenance7.1 Inspection InstructionsThe seller shall provide spe-cific instructions so that the end user can perform a preliminaryvisual inspection of the protective clothing to ensure there areno observable defects. If appropriate, testing procedures andrequir

37、ements (for example, pressure testing at specified inter-vals) shall also be included in this section.7.2 RepairThe seller shall provide specific instructionsabout repairs, authorized by the manufacturer, that do notF2061072compromise the integrity or performance of the protectiveclothing. Special a

38、ttention shall be given to repair informationand instructions that stipulate any appropriate tests, which needto be conducted to ensure the protective clothing will performproperly.7.3 Removal from Service:7.3.1 The seller shall provide specific guidance for judgingwhen an item of protective clothin

39、g shall be removed fromservice.7.3.2 The seller shall provide specific guidance for disposalwhen such guidance is necessary.8.
