3、etal compression-sleeves for use with cross-linked polyeth-ylene (PEX) plastic pipe in38-in.,12-in.,58-in.,34-in., 1-in.,114-in., 112-in., and 2 in. nominal diameters, whereby the PEXpipe is cold-expanded before fitting assembly. These cold-expansion fittings and metal compression-sleeves are intend

4、edfor use in residential and commercial, hot and cold, potablewater distribution systems, as well as sealed central heating,including under-floor heating systems, with continuous opera-tion at pressures up to and including 100 psi (690 kPa), and attemperatures up to and including 180F (82C).1.2 Incl

5、uded in this specification are the requirements formaterials, workmanship, dimensions, and markings to be usedon the fittings and compression-sleeves. Performance require-ments are as referenced in Specification F 877.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. The v

Materials and Manufacture5.1 FittingsCold-expansion fittings shall be made fromone of the following materials:5.1.1 Machined BrassMachined brass cold-expansion fit-tings shall be made from material meeting the requirements ofSpecification B 16/B 16

27、04L or 316L.5.3 PlatingPlating of either fitting component with nickelor chrome, or other metal is optional and must fall within thedimensional tolerances of this specification. Plating can notnegatively affect the quality of markings or the ability to meetS1.2.5.3.1 Nickel PlatingApplication of ele

28、ctroplated nickelcoating shall meet the requirements of Specifications B 689and B 851.5.3.2 Chrome PlatingApplication of electroplated chromecoating shall meet the requirements of Specification B 851.6. Performance Requirements6.1 GeneralAll performance tests shall be conducted onassemblies of fitti

29、ngs (cold-expansion fittings andcompression-sleeves) and PEX pipe. Fittings shall meet thematerial and dimensional requirements of this specification.PEX pipe shall meet the requirements of Specifications F 876and F 877. Assembly of test specimens shall be in accordancewith 9.3. Each assembly shall

30、contain at least two joints. Useseparate sets of assemblies for each performance test require-ment.6.2 Fittings shall comply with the following performancerequirements of Specification F 877. When a section with anidentical title appears in this Specification, it contains addi-tional requirements th

31、at supplement those found in Specifica-tion F 877.6.2.1 Requirements,6.2.2 Test Methods, and6.2.3 Retest and Rejection.7. Dimensions7.1 Dimensions and TolerancesThe dimensions and tol-erances of the cold-expansion fittings and compression-sleeves, when measured in accordance with 10.1, shall be assh

32、own in Figs. 1 and 2.7.1.1 AlignmentThe maximum angular variation of anyopening shall not exceed 1 off the true centerline axis.7.1.2 Fittings with Solder-Joint EndsSolder-joint end di-mensions shall be in accordance with ASME B16.18, ASMEB16.22,orMSSSP-104.6Available from Manufacturers Standardizat

34、conforming to ASME B1.20.1, and shall be taperedthreads (NPT).7.1.4 Straight Threaded-EndsFitting threads shall beright-hand, conforming toASME B1.20.1, and shall be straightmechanical threads (NPSM).7.1.5 Inside DiameterThe minimum inside diameter,listed as Dimension F in Fig. 1, applies to the ent

35、ire fitting notjust the insert area. When fitting has ends that are of differentsizes or configurations (for example, threaded, solder), or both,the minimum ID applies to entire insert area.8. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance8.1 The fittings shall be made from materials that arehomogeneous through

36、out. All sealing surfaces shall be smoothand free of foreign material. The walls of cold-expansionfittings and compression-sleeves shall be free of cracks, holes,blisters, voids, foreign inclusions, or other defects that arevisible to the unaided eye and that affect wall integrity.8.2 FlashExcept fo

37、r the insert, molded polymer fittingsshall be free of flash in excess of 0.005 in. On the insert,molded polymer fittings shall be free of flash in excess of 0.002in. Flash, mismatch, and witness mark requirements for theinsert shall be in accordance with Figs. 3 and 4.8.3 SplayMolded polymer fitting

38、s shall be free of visiblesplay excepting some light blushing at the gate location.9. Assembly9.1 Joints:9.1.1 Cold-Expansion JointsFittings shall be joined toPEX pipe by first expanding the end of the pipe with theexpander tool, inserting the cold-expansion fitting into ex-panded pipe, then pulling

39、 the compression-sleeve over the PEXpipe and the fitting, compressing the pipe between theNote 1All dimensions shall be measured with appropriate micrometers, such as pin or ball micrometers for wall thickness, and outside-diameter micrometers withflat anvils, or vernier calipers, to measure outside

48、Table 1.9.2.2 The expander tool shall be inspected according tomanufacturers instructions.9.3 Procedure:9.3.1 Slide the compression-sleeve onto the pipe so that theinside-beveled end is facing toward the end of the pipe. Slidethe compression-sleeve far enough down the pipe so that it willnot prevent
