、Designation: F 406 08Standard Consumer Safety Specification forNon-Full-Size Baby Cribs/Play Yards1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F 406; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision
、. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONThis consumer safety specification addresses incidents associated with non-full-size cribs/play yardsthat were identified by the U
、.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).Incidents identified by the CPSC and addressed in this standard include asphyxiation due toentrapment in mesh drop side units left with a side down, strangulation by entanglement on protrudinghardware, strangulation by button entrapment in mesh openings,
、 strangulation due to failure of thecenter hinge on a top rail, collapse or failure of the locking devices, collapse of the floor or sides, andchoking on vinyl bitten from the top rail. This specification also addresses wooden non-full-size cribinjuries or deaths due to entanglement on corner post e
、xtensions, dislodgment of slats resulting frombreakage or failure of glue joints, collapse of mattress support, detachment of screws, dislodgementof teething rails, and entanglement on cords or strings. This specification is not intended to cover non-full-size cribs/play yards that are either blatant
、lymisused or abused. This specification is written within current state-of-the-art of non-full-sizecrib/play yard technology and is intended to be updated if substantive information becomes availablethat necessitates additional requirements or justifies revision of existing requirements.1. Scope1.1
、This consumer safety specification establishes testingrequirements for structural integrity and performance require-ments for non-full-size cribs/play yards, both rigid sided andmesh/fabric assemblies. It also provides requirements forlabeling and instructional material. The term unit or productwill
、 refer to a non-full-size crib/play yard.1.2 This specification covers a framed enclosure with a floormade for the purpose of providing sleeping and playingaccommodations for a child who cannot climb out and is lessthan 35 in. (890 mm) in height. It also covers bassinet, changing table, or similar at
、tachments to a non-full sizecrib/play yard. These attachments shall also comply with theapplicable requirements of ASTM standards addressing thoseattachments. For example, a changing table that attaches to aplay yard shall also comply with the applicable requirements inSpecification F 2388.1.3 No pr
