、partment of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers chlorinated poly(vinyl chlo-ride) (CPVC) pipe made in Schedule 40 and 80 sizes andpressure-rated for water (see appendix). Included are criteriafor classifying CPVC plastic pipe materials and CPVC plasticpipe, a system of nomenclature for CPV
、C plastic pipe, andrequirements and test methods for materials, workmanship, dimensions, sustained pressure, burst pressure, flattening, andextrusion quality. Methods of marking are also given.NOTE 1The CPVC pipe covered by this specification was coveredpreviously in Specification D 1785.NOTE 2The su
、stained and burst pressure test requirements, and thepressure ratings in the appendix, are calculated from stress values obtainedfrom tests made on pipe 2 in. 50 mm and smaller. However, tests onlarger pipe have shown these stress values to be valid.1.2 The products covered by this specification are
、 intendedfor use with the distribution of pressurized liquids only, whichare chemically compatible with the piping materials. Due toinherent hazards associated with testing components and sys-tems with compressed air or other compressed gases somemanufacturers do not allow pneumatic testing of their
、 products.Consult with specific product/component manufacturers fortheir specific testing procedures prior to pneumatic testing.NOTE 3Pressurized (compressed) air or other compressed gasescontain large amounts of stored energy which present serious safteyhazards should a system fail for any reason.1
、.3 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes, and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specification.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsar
、e to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains
、only to thetest methods portion, Section 8, of this specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicabi
