3、1.1 This specification covers the requirements for austeniticgrade stainless steel socket-set screws (SSS) sizes 0.060through 0.500 in., in two conditions, AF and CW.1.2 UnitsThe values stated in inch-pound units are to beregarded as standard. Classification3.1 The designation of the alloy group and condition for thetwo materials and conditions of this specification shall beconsistent with the stainless steel designations in SpecificationF593.3.2 The austenitic stainless steel socket set screw shall bedesig

10、nated F880 Group 1 Condition AF (solution annealed) orF880 Group 1 Condition CW (cold worked).4. Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:4.1.1 Quantity (number of screws);4.1.2 Dimensions, including nominal thread designation,thread

11、 pitch, nominal screw length (inches) and point configu-ration. A standard part number may be used for this definition;4.1.3 Name of the screw (SSS);4.1.4 Condition AF/CW;4.1.5 Surface finish, if required. If a finish other thanpassivation is required, it must be specified on the order orproduct sta

Materials and Manufacture5.1 The screw may be forged, formed, extruded, machined,or ground to meet the dimensional characteristics and perfor-mance requirements.5.2 Heat TreatmentAustenitic alloys Group 1 ConditionAF sc

16、rew shall be annealed by heating to 1900 6 50F toobtain maximum corrosion resistance and minimum perme-ability. The screws shall be held for a sufficient time attemperature, then cooled at a rate sufficient to prevent precipi-tation of the carbide and provide the properties in accordancewith Table 1

17、.5.3 When condition CW is specified, the austenitic alloysshall be annealed as specified in 5.2, generally by the rawmaterial manufacturer, and then cold worked to developspecific properties.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The analysis of the screw material shall conform to thechemical composition specif

18、ied in Table 2.6.2 Unless otherwise specified in the inquiry and purchaseorder (see Supplementary Requirement S2), the choice of alloyused shall be that of the fastener manufacturer as determinedby his fabrication methods and material availability. Thespecific alloy used by the manufacturer shall be

19、 clearlyidentified on all certification required in the purchase order andshall have a chemical composition conforming to the limitsspecified in Table 2.6.3 When chemical analysis is performed by the purchaserusing finished fasteners representing each lot, the chemicalcontents obtained shall conform

20、 to the limits specified in Table2 for the specific alloy. Chemical composition shall conform tothe tolerances specified in Specification A555/A555M.6.3.1 In the event of a discrepancy, a referee analysis of thesamples for each lot as specified in 12.1 shall be made inaccordance with 11.3.1.7. Mecha

21、nical Properties7.1 Socket-set screws, when subjected to a torque test inaccordance with 12.3.1, shall withstand application of the testtightening torque specified in Table 1 without evidence of thesocket reaming or the screw bursting.7.2 The hardness limits from 70 to 95 HRB (125 to 210DPH) for Con

22、dition AF and 96 HRB to 33 HRC (216 to 327DPH) for Condition CW shall be met as determined using TestMethods E18.8. Corrosion Resistance Requirements8.1 Carbide Precipitation:8.1.1 Rod, bar, and wire in the austenitic alloy groups 1, 2,and 3, except the free-machining grades, 303 and 303Se, usedto m

23、ake fasteners in accordance with this specification shall becapable of passing the test for susceptibility to intergranularcorrosion as specified in Practice E of Practices A262.8.1.2 As stated in PracticesA262, samples may be subjectedto the faster and more severe screening test in accordance withP

24、ractice A. Failing Practice A, specimens shall be tested toPractice E and be considered satisfactory if passing Practice E.9. Dimensions9.1 Unless otherwise specified, the product shall conform tothe requirements of ASME B 18.3.10. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance10.1 Surface TreatmentUnless othe

25、rwise specified,screws shall be cleaned, descaled, and passivated in accordancewith Practice A380 or Specification A967 at the option of themanufacturer.10.2 Surface Discontinuities:10.2.1 The surface discontinuities for these products shallconform to Specification F788/F788M and the additionallimit

26、ations specified herein.10.2.1.1 Processing cracks that connect the socket to theperiphery of the screw are not permissible. Defects originatingon the periphery with a traverse indicating a potential tointersect are not permissible. For peripheral discontinuities, themaximum depth may be 0.06 D.11.

27、Number of Tests11.1 The requirements of this specification shall be met incontinuous mass production for stock and the manufacturershall make sample inspections to ensure that the productconforms to the specified requirements. The containers shall be coded to permit identifi-cation of the lot.11.2 When specified in the purchase order, the manufacturershall furnish a

31、 test report of the last complete set of chemicalanalysis and mechanical tests for each stock size in eachshipment.11.3 When tests of individual shipments are required,Supplementary Requirement S1 must be specified in theinquiry and order.11.3.1 When the purchaser does not specify the samplingplan a

32、nd basis of acceptance, the following shall apply.11.3.1.1 The lot, for purposes of selecting samples, shallconsist of all products offered for inspection and testing at onetime, that are of the same style, nominal diameter, thread pitch,nominal length, material type, and condition, and surfacefinis

33、h.11.3.1.2 From each lot, samples shall be selected at randomand tested for each requirement in accordance with thefollowing:Number of Pieces in LotNumber ofSamples800 and less 1Over 800 to 8000, incl 2Over 8000 to 22 000, incl 3Over 22 000 511.3.1.3 Should any sample fail to meet the requirements o

34、fa specified test, double the number of samples from the samelot shall be retested for the requirement(s) in which it failed.All of the additional samples shall conform to the specificationor the lot shall be rejected.11.3.1.4 If the failure of a test specimen is due to improperpreparation of the sp

35、ecimen or an incorrect testing technique,the specimen shall be discarded and another test specimensubmitted.11.4 Corrosion Resistance Tests:11.4.1 Unless otherwise specified, inspection for corrosionresistance shall be in accordance with the manufacturersstandard quality control practices. No specif

36、ic method ofinspection is required but the screws shall be produced fromsuitable raw material and manufactured by properly controlledpractices to maintain resistance to corrosion. When corrosiontests are required, Supplementary Requirement S4 must bespecified in the inquiry and order except as noted

37、 in 11.4.2.11.4.2 Products that have been hot worked shall be solutionannealed and tested to determine freedom from precipitatedcarbides. Not less than one corrosion test shall be made fromeach lot. Corrosion tests shall be performed in accordance withPractices A262, Practices A or E as applicable.1

Test Methods12.1 Chemical AnalysisThe chemical composition shallbe determined in accordance with Test Methods, Practices, andTerminology A751.12.2 The fastener manufacturer may accept the chemicalanalysis of each heat of raw material purchased and reported onthe raw material certification furnish

39、ed by the raw materialproducer. The fastener manufacturer is not required to do anyfurther chemical analysis testing, provided that precise heat lottraceability has been maintained throughout the manufacturingprocess on each lot of fasteners produced and delivered.12.3 Mechanical Tests:12.3.1 For so

The applicable hexagon key bit, in accordancewith ASME B 18.3, shall be inserted to the full depth of the setscrew socket and the test torque listed in Table 1 applied bymeans of a torq

45、ue wrench. The screw shall be disassembledfrom the block and examined for compliance to the require-ments of 6.1.12.4 Corrosion ResistanceWhen specified on the pur-chase order or inquiry, corrosion tests to determine freedomfrom precipitated carbides shall be performed in accordancewith Practices A2

46、62, Practice A or E as applicable.13. Inspection13.1 If the inspection described in 13.2 is required by thepurchaser, it shall be specified in the inquiry, order, or contract.13.2 The inspector representing the purchaser shall havefree entry to all parts of the manufacturers works that concernthe ma

47、nufacture of the material ordered. The manufacturershall afford the inspector all reasonable facilities to satisfy thatthe material is being furnished in accordance with this speci-fication. All tests and inspection required by the specificationthat are requested by the purchasers representative and

48、 pur-chase order shall be made prior to shipment and shall be soconducted as not to interfere unnecessarily with the operationof the work.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Screws that fail to conform to the requirements of thisspecification may be rejected by the purchaser. Rejection shallbe reported

49、to the supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of tests or inspection authorizedby the purchaser, the supplier may make claim for a rehearing.15. Certification15.1 Test Report The manufacturer shall maintain on filefor a period of 5 years, the original test report, including a copyof the certified chemical analysis of the heat of material usedand the results of the required testing for the lot of fasteners.15.2 Manufacturers Certificate of ConformanceThemanufacturer shall maintain on file for a period of 5 years, ace
