3、lfoneplastic insert fittings and copper crimp rings for four sizes (38,12 , and34 and 1) of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) plastictubing. These fittings are intended for use in 100 psi (690 kPa)cold- and hot-water distribution systems operating at tempera-tures up to and including 180F (82C). Inclu

4、ded are therequirements for material, molded part properties, perfor-mance, workmanship, dimensions, and markings to be used onthe fittings and rings.1.2 UnitsThe values stated in inch-pound units are to beregarded as the standard. Classification4.1 This specification governs one class of fittings andcopper crimp rings suitable for use with nominal size38 ,12 ,34and 1 size PEX tubing that meets the requirements of ASTMSpecifications F 876 or

12、F 877.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 MaterialFittings shall be molded from sulfone plastic(SP) as specified in Specification D 6394. The material shall beunreinforced polysulfone (group 01, class 1, grade2)orpolyphenylsulfone (group 03, class 1, grade 2). Material mayalso be an unreinforced blend o

Fittings shall be made from virgin plastic orreworked plastic in accordance with 5.1.2.5.1.1 DiscussionSince fittings specified by this standardwill be used in hot-and-cold water plumbing systems, amaterial used to manufacture fittings in acc

17、ordance with thisspecification must demonstrate qualities consistent with thatapplication in addition to the performance requirements of thisspecification. Those qualifying characteristics include, but arenot limited to, an established hydrostatic design basis (HDB) orstress design basis (SDB) in ac

18、cordance with PPI TR-3 orsimilar rating and a demonstration of resistance to the long-term effects of those chemicals normally found in potablewater at the maximum temperature stated in this specification.5.1.2 Rework MaterialClean rework material of the samecommercial designation, generated from th

19、e manufacturersown production may be used by the same manufacturer,provided the fittings meet all of the requirements of thisspecification. Reworked material shall not be introduced at aratio exceeding 25 %.5.2 Potable Water RequirementsProducts intended for thetransport of potable water shall be ev

20、aluated, tested andcertified for conformance with ANSI/NSF Standard No. 61 orthe health effects portion of ANSI/NSF Standard No. 14 by anacceptable certifying organization when required by the regu-latory authority having jurisdiction.5.3 Crimp RingsCrimp rings shall be manufactured andmarked in acc

21、ordance with the requirements of SpecificationF 1807.6. Molded Part Properties6.1 Insert CrushThe fitting insert shall not crack, split, orshatter when tested in accordance with 12.1.6.2 SplayThe molded part shall be free of visible splayexcepting some slight blushing at the gate location.7. Perform

22、ance Requirements7.1 GeneralAll performance tests shall be performed onassemblies of fittings, crimp rings, and PEX tubing. Fittingsand crimp rings shall meet the material and dimensionalrequirements of this standard. PEX tubing shall meet therequirements of Specification F 876 or F 877. Assembly of

23、 testspecimens shall be in accordance with Section 10. Use separatesets of assemblies for each performance test requirement.7.2 Hydrostatic BurstAssemblies shall meet the mini-mum hydrostatic burst requirements shown in Table 1, whentested in accordance with 11.5.7.3 Hydrostatic Sustained Pressure S

24、trengthAssembliesshall meet the hydrostatic sustained pressure requirementsshown in Table 2 when tested in accordance with 11.6.7.4 ThermocyclingAssemblies shall not leak or separatewhen thermocycled 1000 cycles between the temperatures of60F (16C) and 180F (82C) when tested in accordance with11.7.7

25、.5 Excessive Temperature-Pressure Capability:7.5.1 GeneralAssemblies shall have adequate strength toaccommodate short-term conditions, 30 days (720 h) of 210 F(99 C) and 150 psi (1034 kPa) when tested in accordance with11.8.8. Dimensions8.1 Dimensions and TolerancesThe dimensions and tol-erances of

27、ion F 1498.8.1.3 Straight ThreadsStraight pipe threads, intended forthe making of a gasketed seal with taper pipe threads, shall beNPSM and conform to ASME B 1.20.1.9. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 The sealing surfaces of the insert shall be smooth andfree of foreign material. The fitting wa

28、lls shall be free ofcracks, holes, blisters, voids, foreign inclusions, or otherdefects that are visible to the unaided eye and that affect thewall integrity.9.2 Except for the insert, the molded part shall be free offlash in excess of 0.005 in. Flash, mismatch, and witness markrequirements for the

29、insert shall be in accordance with Fig. 1.10. Assembly10.1 Crimp JointsInsert fittings shall be joined to PEXtubing by the compression of a copper crimp ring around theouter circumference of the tubing forcing the tubing materialinto annular spaces formed by ribs on the fitting. Insert fittingsand c

30、rimp rings shall meet the dimensional and materialrequirements of this standard. PEX tubing shall meet therequirements of Specifications F 876 or F 877. 34、onto the tubing, insert the ribbedend of the fitting into the end of the tubing until the tubingcontacts the shoulder of the fitting or tube stop. The crimp ringshall then be positioned on the tubing so the edge of the crimpring is18 in. to14 in. (3.2 to 6.4 mm) from the end of the tube.The jaws of

35、the crimping tool shall be centered over the crimpring and the tool shall be held so that the crimping jaws areapproximately perpendicular to the axis of the barb. The jawsof the crimping tool shall be closed around the crimp ring,compressing the crimp ring onto the tubing. The crimp ringFIG. 1 Fitt

Test Methods11.1 ConditioningCondition specimens at 73 6 4F (236 2C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity for n

37、ot less than 4 hprior to testing. Test Method D 618 shall be used to the extentpossible as a guide to other conditions.11.2 Test ConditionsConduct the tests in the standardlaboratory atmosphere at 73 6 4F (23 6 2C) and 5065%relative humidity unless otherwise specified in the test methodsor in this s

38、pecification.11.3 SamplingA sample of the fittings, crimp rings, andPEX tubing sufficient to determine conformance with thisspecification shall be taken at random.11.4 DimensionsAny randomly selected fitting or fittingsand crimp ring or crimp rings shall be used to determinedimensions. Measurements

39、shall be made in accordance withTest Method D 2122. Determine the diameters by makingmeasurements at four locations spaced at approximately 45apart around the circumference.11.5 Burst PressureDetermine the minimum burst pres-sure in accordance with Test Method D 1599 on at least sixassemblies for ea

40、ch temperature in Table 1. Leakage orseparation at any of the joints tested, or from the fitting itself,at less than the minimum burst requirements for the tempera-tures specified in Table 1 shall constitute a failure in this test.11.6 Sustained Hydrostatic PressurePerform the test on atleast six as

41、semblies in accordance with Test Method D 1598,except for the following:11.6.1 Test temperature shall be 180 6 4F (82 6 2C).11.6.2 The external test environment shall be air or water.11.6.3 Fill the specimens with water at a temperature of atleast 120F (50C).11.6.4 Leakage or separation at any joint

42、 tested at less than1000 h at the sustained pressure as given in Table 2 shallconstitute failure in this test.11.7 Thermocycling:11.7.1 Summary of Test MethodThis test method de-scribes a pass-fail test for thermally cycling assemblies com-prised of insert fitting, crimp ring, and PEX tubing over ac

43、ritical temperature range for a selected number of cycles whilesubjected to an internal pressure. The test provides a measureof resistance to failure due to the combined effects of differ-ential thermal expansion and creep of connections intended foruse up to and including 180F (82C).11.7.2 Apparatu

44、sA pressure source capable of maintain-ing an internal pressure of 100 6 10 psi (690 6 69 kPa) on thespecimens is required. An immersion system shall consist oftwo water reservoirs controlled at 60 6 4F (16 6 2C) and180 6 4F (82 6 2C) into which the pressurized specimenswill be immersed. Either samp

45、les are cycled manually usingflexible connectors or alternately the hot and cold water iscycled over the test specimens automatically and returned tothe proper reservoir (Note 1).NOTE 1Automatic recycling may be accomplished by pumping fromeach reservoir through a delivery system having timer-actuat

46、ed valves tospecimen troughs having synchronized, timer-actuated return drains. Anyautomatic apparatus shall provide for complete immersion of the testspecimen in the water.11.7.3 Specimen AssemblyTest six assemblies. Attach theassemblies to a common manifold in such a way to allowfree-end movement

47、of the tubing. Close this specimen assem-bly with any suitable end closure that will allow free-endmounting and will not leak under the thermocycle conditions,and connect the specimen assembly to the pressure source.11.7.4 ProcedurePressurize the specimen assembly withair to 100 6 10 psi (690 6 69 k

48、Pa) and check for leaks.Eliminate any leaks before the thermocycle test is started.Thermally cycle the specimen assembly either manually orautomatically and under a constant internal pressure of 100 610 psi (690 6 69 kPa), alternately between 60 6 4F (16 62C) and 180 6 4F (82 6 2C) by means of immer
