Scope*1.1 This specification establishes requirements for polypro-pylene (PP) piping system components made to me

3、tric sizesand IPS schedule 80 sizes, and pressure rated for water serviceand distribution supply (see Appendix X1). Included arecriteria for materials, workmanship, dimensions andtolerances, product tests, and marking for polypropylene (PP)piping system components such as pipe, fittings, valves, and

4、manifolds.1.2 The components governed by this specification shall bepermitted for use in water service lines, hot-and-cold waterdistribution, hydronic heating, and irrigation systems.1.3 The pipe and fittings produced under this specificationshall be permitted to be used to transport industrial proc

5、essfluids, effluents, slurries, municipal sewage, etc. The user shallconsult the manufacturer to determine whether the materialbeing transported is compatible with the polypropylene pipingsystem and will not affect the service life beyond limitsacceptable to the user.1.4 UnitsThe values stated in in

6、ch-pound units are to beregarded as standard. The values given in parentheses aremathematical conversions to SI units that are provided forinformation only and are not considered standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 Definitions are in accordance with Terminology F412and abbreviations are in accordance with Terminolo

21、gy D1600,unless otherwise specified.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 polypropylene random copolymer (PP-R) or polypro-pylene random copolymer with modified crystallinity andtemperature resistance (PP-RCT), na propylene plastic con-taining not more than 50% of another olefinic

22、 monomer (ormonomers), having no functional group other than the olefinicgroup, and copolymerized with the propylene.3.2.1.1 DiscussionPolypropylene materials are describedin detail in ISO 15874. The performance of PP-R and PP-RCTis distinguished by the minimum reference curves inISO15874. Historica

23、lly, PP-RCT has referred to a polypropyl-ene random copolymer with modified crystallinity that deliversperformance characteristics referenced in ISO15874. However,recent developments make it possible to attain the PP-RCTperformance requirements other than through modification ofcrystallinity.3.2.1.2

24、 DiscussionThis term is also used for finishedcompound which comprises the PP-R or PP-RCT resin andadditives such as colorants, UV inhibitors, and stabilizers.Polypropylene random copolymers containing more than oneadditional monomer are often referred to as “terpolymers.”3.2.2 plastic-to-metal tran

25、sition fittings, na fitting de-signed to provide a means of connection between the PP pipingsystem and metal piping systems such as steel pipe and coppertubing. The fittings include a means of taking into account thedifferences in thermal expansion of the materials and maintain-ing a pressure-tight

26、seal over the intended use temperaturerange.4. Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers PP piping systemsmade from PPmaterials (PP-R) in various dimension ratios andpressure ratings.4.2 Thermoplastic Pipe Series and ScheduleThis specifi-cation covers PP pipe made in schedule 80 IPS sizes a

27、nd metricsizes in accordance with ISO 4065.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The pipe and fittings shall be polypropylene material oftype PP-R or PP-RCT in accordance with Specification D4101.Clean rework material, of the same PP-R or PP-RCT resingenerated from the manufacturers own pipe or fittingpro

28、duction, shall be permitted to be used provided the pipe orfittings produced meet all requirements of this specification.5.2 For pipe compound, the melt flow rate (MFR) shall notexceed 10.8 grain/10 min (0.7 g/10 min), when tested inaccordance with Test Method D1238 using conditions of 4.76lbm (2.16

29、 kg) at 446F (230C).5.3 The density of the unreinforced, natural color PP-R andPP-RCT material shall not exceed 56.9 lbm/ft3(912 kg/m3),when tested in accordance with Test Method D1505 or TestMethod D792.5.4 Minimum Required Strength (MRS)The PP-R materialused in the pipe and fittings shall have an

30、MRS value of 1160psi (8.0 MPa) or 1450 psi (10.0 MPa) and the PP-RCT materialused in the pipe and fittings shall have an minimum MRS valueof 1624 psi (11,2 MPa) based on testing in accordance withISO 9080 and classification of the lower confidence limit(LCL) at 50 years in accordance with ISO 12162.

31、5.5 Categorized Required Strength (CRS,t)The PP mate-rial used in the pipe and fittings shall have a CRS,tvalue of280 psi (1.93 MPa) based on testing in accordance with ISO9080 and classification of the lower confidence limit (LCL)at180F (82C) and 50 years.5.6 Minimum Pressure RatingThe minimum pres

32、sure rat-ing of the pipe shall be 160 psi (1.1 MPa) at 73F (23C) and100 psi (0.69 MPa) at 180F (82C) for hot-and-cold distribu-tion and 160 psi (1.1 MPa) at 73F (23C) for cold waterservice.5.7 ThreadsFittings shall be permitted to be threaded byuse of metal inserts molded into the fitting.5.7.1 Meta

33、l threads shall be constructed of brass or stainlesssteel inserts molded into the fitting.5.7.2 Threads shall not be molded or fabricated directly intothe polypropylene plastic.5.8 The piping compound shall be permitted to includecolorants, antioxidants, reinforcing materials and additives4Available

36、 all requirements of this specifica-tion.NOTE 1The Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) publishes listings of mini-mum required strength (MRS) and categorized required strength (CRS,t)ratings for thermoplastic piping materials in Technical Report No. 4(TR-4). ISO/TS 15874-7 provides guidance on evaluating

37、the effect ofadditives on long-term strength of the pipe and fittings material.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 The pipe and fittings shall be free of visible cracks,holes, foreign inclusions, blisters and other known injuriousdefects. The pipe and fittings shall be uniform in color, opacit

38、y,density and other physical properties.7. Dimensions and Tolerances7.1 Pipe DimensionsPipe dimensions shall meet the re-quirements in 7.1.1 and 7.1.2.7.1.1 Outside DiametersThe outside diameters and toler-ances shall be as shown in Table 1 (IPS Sch. 80), or Tables 2and 3 (metric series), when measu

39、red in accordance with TestMethod D2122. For diameters not shown in these tables, thetolerance shall be the same percentage of outside diameter asthose for the closest listed diameter.7.1.2 Wall ThicknessesThe wall thicknesses and toler-ances shall be as shown in Table 1,orTables 2 and 3, whenmeasur

40、ed in accordance with Test Method D2122. For wallthicknesses (DRs) not shown in these tables, the minimumwall thickness shall be as calculated using the DR and outsidediameter, and the tolerance on the wall thickness shall be thesame percentage of the calculated minimum wall thickness asfor the clos

41、est listed minimum wall thickness.7.1.3 Threaded PipePipe covered by this specificationshall not be threaded.7.2 Fittings DimensionsFittings dimensions shall meet therequirements in 7.2.1 through 7.2.4.7.2.1 ThreadsTaper threads for joining fittings shall com-ply with the requirements of ASME B1.20.

42、1 for NPT metalthread inserts or prEN 10226-1 for metric threads. Threadsused by the manufacturer to join component parts of a fittingtogether shall meet the manufacturers specifications.7.2.2 Laying LengthsLaying lengths shall be in accor-dance with the manufacturers specifications.7.2.3 Socket-fus

43、ed FittingsDimensions for socket-fusedfittings shall be in accordance with Tables 4 and 5 (IPS Sch 80)or Tables 6 and 7 (metric series). Socket depth shall bemeasured from the face of the socket entrance to the face of thepipe stop at the socket bottom.7.2.4 Electrofusion FittingsDimensions for elec

44、trofusionfittings shall be in accordance with manufacturers specifica-tions.7.2.5 Valves and FlangesDimensions for valves andflanges shall be in accordance with the manufacturers speci-fications.8. Requirements8.1 Longitudinal ReversionWhen tested in accordancewith ISO 15874-2, at the conditions giv

45、en in Table 8, the meanrelative change in pipe length shall not exceed 2 %.8.2 Melt Flow Rate (MFR) of Pipe and FittingsWhentested in accordance with D1238, the MFR of specimens takenfrom the finished pipe or fittings shall be within 30 % of theMFR of the compound used to produce the pipe or fitting

Twospecimens shall be tested, and both shall pass.8.3 Impact StrengthWhen tested in accordance with ISO3127, 9 of 10 specimens shall pass at the impact level specifiedin Table 9 at a test temperature of 32 6 2F (0 6 1C).8.4 Thermal Stability and Oxidative Induction Time (OIT)Pipe and fittings shal

47、l meet the requirements of 8.4.1thermalstability by hydrostatic testing, and 8.4.2oxidative inductiontime.8.4.1 When tested in accordance with Test Method D1598,pipe and fittings shall not fail at the pressure corresponding tothe pipe circumferential stresses and times given in Table 10for PP-R and

48、PP-RCT. If an assembly fails at a joint, the fittingmaterial shall be permitted to be retested in pipe form.8.4.2 The oxidative induction time (OIT) shall be deter-mined on pipe and fittings in accordance with Test MethodD3895. Two specimens shall be tested and the average OIT ofthe two shall be at

49、least 80 % of the OIT of the virgin materialcompound. For those materials which require final blending atthe extruder (masterbatch/resin), the 80% OIT requirementshall be based on the OIT of the pipe sample which has alsopassed the hydrostatic testing of 8.4.1 or a pipe sample of thesame formulation containing no rework.NOTE 2Initial qualification of changes to materials that have met therequirements of this section may be evaluated based on limited hydrostatictesting and comparison of OIT values.8.5 Hydrostatic
