、Designation: F 2421 05Standard Test Method forMeasurement of Resilient Floor Plank by Dial Gage1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F 2421; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision.
、A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This test method establishes the procedures for determi-nation of both dimension (length and width) and squareness ofresilient floor
、 plank. This test method is intended for use withrectangular plank up to 36 in. (915 mm).1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practice
、s and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precau-tionary statements are provided in applicable sections of thistest method.1.3 The values stated in inch-pounds units are to be re-garded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are forinformation only

、 141.4. Significance and Use4.1 The combination of both dimensional and squareness ofresilient floor plank is an important consideration becauseinstalled flooring may exhibit an objectionable appearancewhen either or both characteristics deviate from establishedtolerances. This test method provides
、a means of determiningactual dimensional and squareness by using a single apparatusand procedure.5. Apparatus5.1 The apparatus4shall consist of five dial gages and tworeference index strips mounted on a flat bedplate in a configu-ration that, by rotation and flipping of the sample, allows themeasure
、ment of all four sides of resilient plank samples. (SeeFig. 1). One edge of the bedplate is elevated to create a testsurface, which is offset or tilted 15+/-1 degrees from horizon-tal. The offset applies minimal pressure to the test specimenagainst the longer index strip to ensure repeatable measure
、-ment. A reference plate4representing target plank size andsquareness (see Fig. 2) is used to zero all dial gages.5.2 Dial GagesThe five dial gages are mounted in guideslots, which are machined into the bedplate to allow formeasurement of various plank sizes.
