Design and Construction5.1 Design FeaturesThe propeller may not have designfeatures that have been shown to be hazardous or unreliableunless the suitability of

、each questionable design detail or partcan be established by tests.5.2 MaterialsThe suitability and durability of materialsused in the propeller must:5.2.1 be established on the basis of in-service experience ortests; and5.2.2 conform to documented specifications that ensure thatstrength and other m

、aterial properties consistently meet orexceed those used in the initial design and qualification testing.5.3 DurabilityEach part of the propeller must be designedand constructed with consideration of likely in-service damageand wear. The propeller must be able to operate normallybetween inspection a

、 in unacceptable changes inpropeller blade pitch setting. Failure of structural elementsneed not be considered if the occurrence of such a failure isexpected to be extremely remote.5.5 Propeller Strength and EndurancePropellers must beshown to have satisfactory endurance as well as stresses that don

Tests and Inspections6.1 General:6.1.1 Each manufacturer must be able to show that thepropeller concerned can complete the applicable tests andinspections of

、 this section without evidence of failure ormalfunction.6.1.2 The minimum applicable testing and inspection re-quirements are outlined in Table 1 according to propellermaterial type.6.2 Strength Testing:6.2.1 All PropellersThe entire propeller assembly must betested for1hatarotational speed that pro

、duces a constantcentrifugal load equal to twice that which would occur atmaximum rated rotational speed (as published in the operatingmanual). For the purpose of this requirement, an overspeed testat least 1.41 times the maximum rated rotational speed or astatic pull test are acceptable means of com

、pliance. If a staticpull test is used, the required load for each blade must becarried by at least the inner one-half of its span.6.2.2 On propellers with detachable blades, the blade rootand blade retention system must be statically tested for1hata load level equal to four times the centrifugal loa

、d that wouldbe generated by the blade weight at maximum rated rotationalspeed.6.3 Stress Measurement, Fatigue Strength, and FatigueAnalysis:6.3.1 The magnitude of the propeller vibration stresses, including any stress peaks and resonant conditions, throughoutthe operational envelope of the propeller

、shall be determinedby direct measurement of stresses on a representative engine.6.3.2 A full-scale fatigue test shall be performed to deter-mine a fatigue allowable of the blade retention system.6.3.3 Through testing or analysis, the fatigue allowable forthe mid-blade and tip regions of the propelle

、r blade shall bedetermined. This testing shall also account for normal in-service damage and wear.6.3.4 Using the measured stresses and root, mid-blade, andtip fatigue allowables, a fatigue assessment shall be conductedto show that failure of the propeller will not occur between thedeclared propelle

、r inspection intervals when using the declaredinspection techniques.6.4 Endurance Testing:6.4.1 The propeller shall undergo an endurance test on theintended engine, or a vibrationally representative engine that iscapable of providing the maximum rated power at the maxi-mum rated propeller rotational

、 speed and diameter. The pro-peller pitch may be adjusted as necessary to achieve maximumrated takeoff power at maximum rated takeoff RPM. Propellerpitch need not be readjusted for the remainder of the test unlessnecessary to avoid declared operational speed placards. Thetest shall be conducted acco

、rding to the schedule, and in theorder, shown in Fig. 1.6.4.2 During the test, it is acceptable to stop the test asneeded, but the test should be restarted and continued from thepoint in the test schedule where it was stopped.6.5 Teardown Inspection:6.5.1 After completion of each test prescribed in

、Section 5of this specification, the propeller must be completely disas-sembled and a detailed inspection must be made of thepropeller parts for cracks, wear, distortion, and any otherunusual conditions.6.5.2 Any unsatisfactory findings during the teardown in-spection must be resolved through design

Any service or repairs completed must beallowed by the maintenance manual. If repairs or replacementof parts that are beyond

、the scope of the maintenance manualare found necessary during the tests or in the teardowninspection, the parts in question must be subjected to additionaltesting or design changes, or both, as necessary to establish thecompliance of the propeller to this specification.7. Identification Marking7.1 E

、 service or lost or destroyed in an accident.7.3 The identification marking(s) shall contain the followinginformation. Propeller diameter, pitch (for fixed-pitch propel-lers), and manufacturers identification must be obvious fromthe marking(s). The other required information can be encodedor abbrevi
