Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONSince 2002 (until Jan. 1, 2008), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has receivedreports of 16 tragic deaths, mostly
3、infants younger than 8 months of age, who were placed to sleepon air mattresses. Eleven suffocated in a facedown position on an air mattress, and five died as a resultof suffocation after falling into gaps between the mattress and bed frame or mattress and adjacentfurniture or wall.1. Scope1.1 This
4、safety specification covers safety requirementsaimed at providing cautionary labeling information for saferuse of inflatable air mattresses (also known as “air beds,”collectively referred to herein as “inflatable air mattresses”).The intent of this safety specification is to reduce child (infant)inj
5、uries and fatalities caused by suffocation on inflatable airmattresses.1.2 This safety specification covers all size inflatable airmattressesincluding but not limited to full, queen, king, andtwin sizes.1.3 This safety specification does not cover inflatable airmattresses designed specifically for u

Infants can suffocate on an underinflatedor deflated mattress, on bedding, by co-sleeping with anotherperson, and by entrapment between the mattress and bed frameor between the mattress and a vertical surface.4.2.2 Children can be entrapped between the inflatablemattress and an a
15、djacent vertical surface. Provide at least ashoulder width space between the inflatable mattress/airbedand adjacent vertical surfaces such as walls, dressers, or otherobjects.4.2.3 Always keep the inflatable mattress fully inflatedwhen in use.5. Labels5.1 Each inflatable air mattress shall be labele
16、d with warn-ing statements. The warning statements shall be in contrastingcolor(s), permanent, such that the warning statements cannotbe removed without the use of tools, visible when the productis in the manufacturers recommended use position to a personwho is inflating the air mattress, and in san
17、s serif style font.5.2 In warning statements, the safety alert symbol “” andthe word “ WARNING ” shall not be less than 0.24 in. (6 mm)high. The remainder of the text shall be characters whose uppercase shall be at least 0.12 in. (3 mm) high.5.2.1 “” WARNING: Risk of Suffocation.5.3 The warning stat
18、ements shall clearly convey the follow-ing:5.3.1 Infants have suffocated on inflatable mattresses.5.3.2 Never place an infant aged birth to 15 months on aninflatable mattress.5.3.3 When used by children over 15 months old, provide atleast a shoulder width space between inflatable mattress andvertica
