Scope1.1 This specification covers the polyethylene material anddimensions applicable to flange adapters (FAs) used to connectpolyethylene pipes to other flanged pipe and components suchas valves and flanged fittings. This standard describes outside
4、diameter controlled polyethylene (PE) pipe flange adapters(FAs) in diameters ranging from34 in. through 65 in. (12 mmthrough 1600 mm). The flange adapters may be manufacturedby various methods including injection molding, compressionmolding, and machining from thick-wall polyethylene pipe.1.2 The fl
5、ange adapter (FA) is the principal component ofthe lap-joint flanged assembly widely used for several decadesin low-pressure to high-pressure polyethylene pipe systems forall types of pressurized flow (gas and liquid) applications. Theflange adapters physical shape consists of the pipe-like Neckwhic
6、h is monolithic with its Hub. The Neck is intended to bebutt-fused or fusion coupled to the pipe-line; while the Hubface is intended to affect the seal when subjected to thedistributed load from the back up ring with its properly torquedbolt-studs and nuts.NOTE 1Polyethylene pipe flange adapters wit

20、 pipe wall for pipe that is subjected tosustained long-term hydrostatic pressure. The hydrostatic de-sign stress is determined by multiplying the hydrostatic designbasis by the PPI recommended design factor for water service.HDS ratings for PE materials are published by PPI in TR-4.3.7 IPSIron Pipe

Polyethylene Materials for Flange4.1 GeneralTable 1 contains the list of polyethylenematerials that are acceptable for use in manufacture of theflange adapters. Usually, the flange adapter material has thesame material designation as the specified p
27、olyethylene pipe-line material, for the purpose of chemical resistance andheat-fusion joining. Commercial virgin PE material com-pounds shall meet Table 1 physical properties, SpecificationD3350 requirements and shall be classified per SpecificationD3350 as shown in Table 1. The PE material compound
28、 shallhave HDB ratings at 73F (23C) and at 140F (60C) andHDS ratings at 73F (23C) determined in accordance withTest Method D2837 and PPI TR-3.4.2 ColorThe PE material in the pipe shall contain colorand ultraviolet (UV) stabilizer meeting the requirements ofCode C or E per Specification D3350. Code C
29、 material shallcontain between 2 to 3 percent carbon black by weight.4.3 ReworkClean rework pipe-grade polyethylene mate-rial derived from pipe and or fittings production by the samemanufacturer are acceptable as part of a blend with virginmaterial for the production of flange adapters provided that
30、 (a)the cell classification or materials designation code of therework material is the same as the virgin material compound towhich it is added, and (b) the rework materials complied withapplicable requirements as virgin materials.4.4 Potable WaterMaterials used for products intendedfor use in the t
31、ransport of potable water shall be evaluated andcertified as safe for this purpose by a testing agency acceptableto the local health authority. The evaluation shall be inaccordance with requirements for chemical extraction, taste,and odor that are no less restrictive than those included inNSF/ANSI S
32、tandard No. 14 or NSF/ANSI Standard No. 61.The seal or mark of the laboratory making the evaluationshould be included on the piping per 7.1.3.7.5. Flange Adaptor Dimensions and Working PressureRatings5.1 GeneralThis standard describes 10 dimension ratios(DRs) for nominal flange adapter sizes ranging
33、 from34 in.through 65 in. (12 mm through 1 600 mm). Flange adapteroutside diameters (ODs) conform to the outside diameterdimensions of iron pipe sizes (IPS), or to equivalent outsidediameters for ductile-iron (DI) pipe (DIPS). Polyethyleneflange adapters are classified by dimension ratios (DRs)rangi
34、ng from 7.0 to 32.5. The resultant combinations of PEmaterial designations and DRs define flange adapters withpressure ratings ranging from 40 to 333 psig (276 to 2 299 kPa)when conveying water at 80F (27C) and lower temperatures.Use at temperatures above 80F (27C) up to 140F (60C) isacceptable at p
35、ressure ratings that are appropriately reduced forthe service temperature.5.2 Outside diametersThe neck Outside Diameter (OD)of the flange adapter measured at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C)shall conform to the applicable OD dimension requirementsspecified in the related polyethylene pipe standards : Specifi-
36、cations F714, D2513, D3035, and AWWA C901 and C906.Measurements shall be made according to the methods speci-fied in Test Method D2122. The tolerance on outside diametershall not exceed 60.45 percent of the average outside diam-eter, as presented in the tables for NPS 4-in. and larger.5.2.1 Special
37、SizesWhere existing system conditions orspecial local requirement make other diameters or dimensionratios necessary, other sizes or dimension ratios, or both, shallbe acceptable for engineered applications when mutuallyagreed upon by the customer and the manufacturer, if theflange adapter is manufac
38、tured from plastic compounds meet-ing the material requirements of this specification, and thestrength and design requirements are calculated on the samebasis as those use in this specification. For diameters not shownin Table 2, Table 3 or Table 4, the tolerance shall be the samepercentage as that
