3、 of heat fusion equipment (HFE) opera-tors in, but not limited to, a field environment in order toestablish and maintain competency in the joining of Polyeth-ylene (PE) and Polyamide (PA) piping systems.1.2 This HFE operator training and qualification is appli-cable to heat fusion joining of PE pipe
4、 and fittings to other PEpipe and fittings of related polymer chemistry specified in theheat fusion procedures or standards used. It is also applicableto heat fusion joining of PA pipe and fittings to other PA pipeand fittings of the same polymer chemistry specified in the heatfusion procedures or s

The heat fusion betweenPE pipe and fittings to PA pipe and fittings is NOT allowed.1.3 The HFE operator training and qualification shall be forbutt fusion for either PE or PA piping products, using thespecific brand and size range of fusion machine to be used bythe HFE operator and th
6、e heat fusion procedures or standardsspecified. If the HFE operator trainee requests, the trainingshall also include saddle and/or socket fusion of PE pipe andfittings of related polymer chemistry specified in the heatfusion procedures or standards used. This standard does notinclude training on the
7、 electro-fusion of these piping products.1.4 The HFE operator qualification shall be for one specificmanufacturers fusion machine or a size range of that manu-facturers hydraulic fusion machines or equipment that alloperate in the same manner with the same hydraulic design andcontrols and the same h
8、eater and facer design. For smaller pipesizes (6 in. and smaller), the qualification can be on a specificfusion machine or a combination of butt, saddle and/or socketfusion machines or equipment.1.5 The HFE operator qualification shall be on specific heatfusion procedures or standards specified for
9、PE and PA pipes.For PE pipe and fittings, this shall include Practice F2620 orother company or pipe manufacturers procedures, or a com-bination thereof. For PA-11 pipe and fittings, this shall includePlastics Pipe Institute (PPI) Technical Report TR-45 or othercompany or pipe manufacturers procedure

Summa
18、ry of Practice4.1 In order to obtain a HFE operators qualification card, theoperator shall complete a training course from a Heat FusionEquipment Operator Training Organization (see Annex A1)and pass a written examination and a performance examina-tion.4.2 The HFE operator trainee shall obtain train
19、ing for thewritten examination from the Heat Fusion Equipment OperatorTraining Organization. This training can be in a training classor through an internet based training course or a combinationof both and the written examination shall be given at the end ofthe training. The HFE operator trainee sha
20、ll be trained in theareas outlined in Table 1 and Table 2 for the written andperformance examination. The HFE operator trainee shall begiven a minimum of 50 multiple choice questions and the HFEoperator trainee is required answer 80% or more of thequestions correctly to pass. The HFE operator traine
21、e shall beallowed to use all course material provided, standard proce-dures provided and any notes the trainee has made during thetraining, while taking the written examination. The maximumtime allowed for completing the examination shall be two (2)minutes times the number of questions on the examin
22、ation.4.3 The HFE operator trainee shall obtain performancetraining on the proper and safe operation of the specific brandand size range of fusion equipment the HFE operator traineewill be using. The training shall cover the heat fusion proce-dure or standard specified and how to use the fusion equi
23、pmentto satisfy the heat fusion procedure or standard. At the end ofthe training, the HFE operator trainee shall be given anoperators performance examination which will include mak-ing a heat fusion joint to the heat fusion procedure or standardspecified under the supervision of a qualified HFE oper
24、atortraining instructor and be able to do a visual inspection of thejoint.4.4 A destructive test or non-destructive test shall be per-formed on the heat fusion joint, made by the HFE operatortrainee during the performance examination. The HFE operatortrainee must pass 100% of the performance examina
25、tioncriteria, which includes following the specified heat fusionprocedure or standard to make the heat fusion joint, passing thevisual inspection of the joint made, accompanied by a passingresult of the destructive joint tests or non-destructive tests (ifapproved by national codes or standards). The
26、 HFE operatortrainee shall obtain the Heat Fusion Equipment OperatorsQualification card if he or she passes the written examinationand passes the performance examination outlined in thisstandard. This card shall outline the training organization, thename of the qualified operator, the specific manuf

Significance and Use5.1 This standard practice i
39、s designed to specify the mini-mum training and testing required of HFE operators traineesbefore they obtain a Heat Fusion Equipment Operator Quali-fication card. It will allow the industry to require the “HFE”operators be trained and qualified to an approved procedurebefore they can heat fuse PE or
40、 PA pipe in the field. Thestandard practice will bring more competency in the operatorsand more consistency in the training they receive.6. Training and Testing Procedures6.1 Butt Fusion with hydraulically operated fusion ma-chines for PE or PA pipe and fittings.6.1.1 Training Curriculum:6.1.1.1 The
41、 training shall be provided by a qualified “HFE”operator training instructor having the skill/experience de-scribed in Annex A1. The heat fusion course shall be com-prised of any combination of fusion machines based on therequirements of the pipeline operators. This training shall begiven as individ
42、ual modules or combined to suit requirements.6.1.1.2 The training shall be comprised of general informa-tion in the areas outlined in Table 1. It shall also cover thepractical information in the areas outlined in Table 2. Thisincludes training on the proper and safe operation of the heatfusion equip
43、ment the operator is being qualified on and how touse the equipment to make a heat fusion joint that satisfies thespecified heat fusion procedure or standard. This also includesmaking a minimum of two joints on the training equipment.The general training shall be taken in a class, in an internetcour
44、se, or a combination of both.6.1.2 HFE Operator Testing Requirements:6.1.2.1 The testing will be conducted by the Heat FusionEquipment Operator Training Organization after the generaland practical training is completed.6.1.2.2 After the completion of the general and practicaltraining, the HFE operat
45、or trainee shall be given a minimum of50 multiple choice questions related to the training specified inTable 1 and Table 2. The HFE operator trainee is required toanswer at least 80% of the questions correctly in order to passthe written test. The HFE operator trainee shall be allowed touse all cour
46、se material provided, standard procedures providedand any notes the trainee has made during the training, whiletaking the written examination. The maximum time allowedfor completing the examination shall be two (2) minutes timesthe number of questions on the examination.6.1.2.3 For training on hydra
47、ulically operated fusionmachines, the performance examination requires the HFEoperator trainee to make a butt fusion joint with a pipe sizespecified by the Heat Fusion Equipment Operator TrainingOrganization, unless otherwise specified by the project code(s),regulation(s), standard(s) or specificati
48、on(s). A data recordingdevice, conforming to Practice F3124, shall be attached to thefusion machine, if available, and the data concerning the jointentered. If used, the data recording device shall be used torecord the joint made by the trainee. The qualified HFEoperator training instructor shall ob
49、serve the butt fusion jointbeing made and manually record if the specified procedure orstandard was followed. After the joint is completed, the datafrom the data recording device, if used, shall be reviewed bythe instructor and the HFE operator trainee to ensure thespecified procedure or standard was followed in making thejoint. The instructor shall observe the HFE operator trainee inthe visual inspection of the joint to make sure the trainee candetermine if the joint meets the heat fusion procedure orstandard specified.6.1.2.4 If a data recording device is not availabl
