Scope1.1 This specification covers requirements for treestands,climbing sticks, and tripod/tower stands that are used forhunting, photog

3、raphing, or general observation. Furthermore,this specification establishes minimum warning and packagelabeling, instructional content, safety device requirements, andphysical testing parameters. This is a performance basedspecification and is not intended to restrict design.1.2 Partial utilization

4、of this specification is prohibited. Anystatement of compliance with this specification shall be acertification that the product tested meets all of the require-ments of the specification in its entirety. A product that fails tomeet any one of the requirements of this specification isconsidered to h

5、ave failed this specification and shall not be soldwith any indication that it meets parts of the specification.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 backbar, nadjustable component of a climbing tree-stand that engages the tree to provide s

10、upport. The backbarmay be rigid or flexible.3.1.2 climbing belt, na strap/belt or similar device whichis fastened about the person in a manner so as to contain thetorso and stabilize the users horizontal load while eitherworking from a vertical position to attach treestands, climbingdevices, and so

11、forth, or during ascent/descent of tree or ladder.A FBH may be constructed to additionally serve this function.3.1.3 corner stability, nthe ability of a treestand to resisteccentricity, twisting, or sudden movement when load isapplied separately to each of the four corners of a footplatform.3.1.4 fa

21、eight on the lower extremities if suspended in aharness or allow the user to descend to the ground. The deviceis to help maintain circulation in the legs and help preventsuspension trauma (blood pooling).3.1.13 treestand, ndevice designed to be affixed to a treeso as to permit an individual to sit o

22、r stand thereon for thepurpose of attaining an elevated position from which toobserve, photograph or hunt.3.1.14 user, nthe consumer or end user of the manufac-tured product.4. Classification4.1 Ladder treestandA treestand that is secured to the treeat the elevation where the platform is located. Th

23、e laddertreestand has steps that are used to reach the platform orhunting position. The ladder or steps is an integral part of theproduct.4.2 Non-climbing, fixed position or hang-on treestandAtreestand that is secured to the tree at the elevation where it isused. (The user usually ascends the tree b

24、y some means andthen lifts the treestand to the desired position and secures it foruse.)4.3 Climbing stick continuousA device or aide to assistclimbing a tree primarily to a fixed position treestand. Acontinuous interconnected ladder that is secured to the tree andallows the user to support his weig

25、ht and climb to the desiredheight on the tree.4.4 Climbing stick sectionalA device or aide to assistclimbing a tree primarily to a fixed position treestand. Consistsof multiple independent ladder sections that are secured to thetree and allow the user to support his weight and climb to thedesired he

26、ight on the tree.4.5 Tripod or tower standTripod or tower stand is con-structed to be self-supporting and is not required to be securedto a tree.4.6 Climbing treestand (hand climber) - Type IA tree-stand that provides both the means to ascend and descend thetree and allow the user to remain at a des

27、ired elevation. Itconsists of a top section and a foot platform, which areindependent of one another. The users arms are used tosupport and transfer their weight to the top section whenascending or descending.4.7 Climbing treestand (sit/stand) - Type IIA treestandthat provides both the means to asce

28、nd and descend the treeand allow the user to remain at a desired elevation. It consistsof a top section and a foot platform, which are independent ofone another. The user sits on the extended structure of the topsection, opposite the seat, when ascending or descending.4.8 Climbing treestand (sit/sta

29、nd) - Type IIIA treestandthat provides both the means to ascend and descend the treeand allow the user to remain at a desired elevation. It consistsof a top section and a foot platform, which are independent ofone another. The user sits on the seat of the top section whenascending or descending.5. M

30、aterials and Manufacture5.1 The manufacturer shall have a quality assurance pro-gram in place that meets the requirements of Practice F2275.6. General Requirements6.1 InstructionsUser instructions shall be supplied witheach individual unit and shall be in accordance with PracticeF2123. Instructions

31、shall contain detailed information on theproper set up, use, and safety precautions for the unit. Inaddition to model specific written instructions a non-modelspecific Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) or other digital mediaequivalent shall be provided to the user with each tree-stand.The intent of which

32、 is to address the topics outlined inPractice F2123 as well as provide visual instruction for properuse and safety precautions when using treestands.6.2 Fall Arrest SystemA fall arrest system that meets TestMethod F2337 shall be provided for each user as standardequipment with a Ladder, Fixed Positi

33、on (Hang-on), or Climb-ing Treestand. The fall arrest system capacity shall not be lessthan the single user rated load capacity of the treestand. Formultiple occupancy Ladder treestands a fall arrest systemwould be provided for each user.6.2.1 Fall arrest systems for Fixed Position (Hang-on)treestan

34、ds shall include a climbing belt.6.2.2 Instructions on the proper use, warnings, and securingthe harness to the tree shall be provided either separately or aspart of the treestand instructions.6.3 Auxiliary Safety Devices:6.3.1 Ladder treestands shall include means to stabilize theladder from pivoti

35、ng about the ladder axis and secure it to thetree prior to use. Crisscrossing rope, straps, or other methods tosecure the ladder treestand to the tree to prevent pivoting priorto climbing are examples of such means. Instructions shallinclude proper installation and use.6.3.2 Ladder treestands, tripo

36、d/tower stands, and continuousclimbing sticks shall include means to secure all ladderF3249 172sections together such that inadvertent separation of the sec-tions during use cannot occur. The use of pins, bolts, clips, etc.through each joint (or other coupling device) to preventsections/columns from

37、 separating is an example of such means.6.3.3 Climbing treestands shall include a flexible intercon-necting device to secure the upper and lower sections togetherand prevent them from separating. A cable, rope, strap or othersimilar interconnecting means shall be used.7. Warning Labels and Markings7

38、.1 Each product shall have permanent date code indicatingits date of manufacture. A date code shall be located on eachfinal product assembly. The date code shall include as aminimum the last digit of the year and a code for the month orthe week. (Example: for March, 2009 “39” or “C9” or “93”or “9C”.

39、) Any code that is logical, consistent and able to bedecoded by the manufacturer is acceptable. Any product inproduction for ten years or more with no changes will berequired to add a third number so that the last two digits of theyear are known. Date codes shall be made permanent.7.2 It is recommen

40、ded that manufacturers follow the meth-ods of labeling in Specification F1749 and so described herein.When unusual or special conditions require labels or warningmethods not covered herein, the manufacture shall be respon-sible for their development to assure adequate information forthe user. All la

41、bels and warnings shall be clearlyunderstandable, legible, in English, of a size consistent with thespace available to be marked, and able to withstand reasonableexposure to the elements.7.3 Selection of PlacementLabels and warnings shall beplaced such that they are visible to the user when mounting

42、 thetreestand, tripod or tower, and climbing stick during assemblyand prior to use. The following placement locations arerecommended for individual units and situations: The top(upper) side of the platform. Along the top (upper) side of thebackbar. Along the top (upper) side of a flat surface on a m

43、ainstructural support member. On the top (upper) portion of acomponent requiring a special label or warning.7.4 Selection of Type of Label or WarningAll materialsused shall be able to withstand reasonable exposure to theelements. For direct mark use, it shall be with permanent ink orpaint, engraved,

44、 stamped, embossed, etched or other permanentmeans. For tagging (nameplates, stickers, etc.), the tag shall besecured by mechanical means or by adhesives suitable towithstand reasonable exposure to the elements.Adhesives shallbe resistant to peel off. Labels or lettering, or both, shall behighly vis

45、ible by use of the signal word “WARNING” withblack letters on orange background.7.5 Label ContentThe minimum information that shall beprovided on a treestand label is as follows:7.5.1 The warning label must contain the signal word“WARNING” and preceded with or follow the words “failureto follow all

46、warnings listed could result in serious injury ordeath.”7.5.2 The label must contain a phrase that warns not to usewithout a Full Body Harness (Fall Arrest System) that meetsthe requirements of Test Method F2337.7.5.3 The label must contain a phrase that warns to “not usebefore reading instructions”

47、 or “read instructions before use.”7.5.4 The label must state the rated load capacity or weightlimit of the treestand. For multiple occupancy treestands, boththe maximum single user weight rating and maximum multipleuser weight rating must be stated.7.5.5 The label must contain the manufacturers nam

48、e andaddress or name and telephone number.8. Physical Testing8.1 SamplingWhen performing testing for new productconformance an individual unit, for the desired classification,shall be a sample that is representative of production.8.2 The initial test performed shall be a repetitive loadingtest in ac

49、cordance with Test Method F2128.8.3 Repetitive loading shall be followed by static loadtesting of the various components of the unit. Testing shall beperformed in accordance with the applicable sections of TestMethods F2126, F2125, and F2531 for the subject unit usingthe criteria as forth in Table 1.8.4 Failure CriterionDuring all testing permanentdeformation, cracks or other structural defects shall be causefor failure. Visual inspection shall be the main inspectionmethod; however, other non-destructive test methods may beused to determi
