7、his document, consists of two segments, 1) the manufacturer identification segment and 2) the serial number segment. The combination of these two segments ensures uniqueness within a company. This guideline recommends a maximum length of 25 characters (ANSI MH10.8.2. does not specify a length for un
8、ique serial identification for the Data Identifiers specified in this document). To make the unique serial identification globally unique, the manufacturer identification segment includes an Issuing Agency Code per ISO/IEC 15459-2 with the -assigned code for the manufacturer/supplier/company. This i
9、s the standard approach as specified in ISO/IEC 15459-4, ANS MH10.8.7 and ANS ATIS-0300091 standards. ISO/IEC 15459 refers to the unique serial identification for an item as the Unique Item Identifier (UII). Equipment suppliers shall ensure that the serial number assigned to an item is identical in

ATIS-0300078 4 3 Unique Serial Identification Length and Identifiers The maximum length of the unique serialization identification shall be 25 data characters. This character count is exclusive of overhead characters.
14、Overhead characters are those characters included within the symbol that are not data characters, e.g., start, stop, error checking, concatenation, and field identifier characters. It is important that the appropriate identifiers i.e., Data Identifiers (DIs) and Application Identifiers (AIs) and sym
15、bology overhead (e.g., start and stop characters, check characters, field separators, finder patterns, error correction characters, etc.) are utilized in accordance with their associated industry and symbology standards. The details of encoding an Automatic Data Capture (ADC) message with the Unique
16、 Serial Identification and other product information is explained in ATIS-0300038. However, for assistance with assigning Unique Serial Identification, this specification information is repeated here. The ATIS-0300038 document specifies that Unique Serial Identification can be encoded using any of t
17、he following Data Identifiers (DIs) per ANS MH10.8.2 as follows: DI Usage 25S Followed with an ISO/IEC 15459 Issuing Agency Code, manufacturer identification segment (of the manufacturer) and a unique serial number segment. This is the preferred method of Unique Serial Identification and compliant w
18、ith ANS ATIS-0300091. S Followed with the manufacturer identification segment and a unique serial number segment. This combination of the manufacturer identification segment and a unique serial number was defined prior to the definition of the Data Identifier 25S. Note that ATIS has defined the Data
19、 Identifier “S” to include the Manufacturer/Supplier Code (see ATIS-0300038, section 5.4.1). This is not the standard definition of the Data Identifier “S”. ANS MH10.8.2 defines the Data Identifier “S” as: Serial number or code assigned by the Supplier to an entity for its lifetime, (e.g., computer

To avoid confusing and costly processes resulting from manufacturers not complying with this guideline and the ISO/IEC 1545
22、9 standard for unique identification, this guideline recommends that this document, ANS ATIS-0300091 and ATIS-0300038 be specified for compliance between trading partners. When using Data Identifier “S” or Application Identifier “21”, format will be “ABCD” where “ABCD” represents the four character code assigned by Telcordia followed by the serial number segment. 4.1.2 GS1 (formally EAN.UCC) Company Prefix 4.1.2.1 Code Structure The GS1 Co
41、mpany Prefix code consists of a seven (7) to eleven (11) numeric Manufacturer Identification Segment followed by a one (1) to eighteen (18) alphanumeric character Serial Number Segment, represented in the format immediately following. Due to the variable length of the Manufacturer Identification Seg
42、ment, the ATIS-0300078 9 maximum length of the Serial Number Segment is of variable length as well; however, the total of both segments shall not exceed 25 characters.
