3、or classification of bare electrodes and rods for surfacing. Solid surfacingelectrodes and rods are classified on the basis of the composition of the material as manufactured. Metal cored and fluxcored composite (tubular) surfacing electrodes and rods are classified on the basis of the chemical comp

4、osition ofthe deposited weld metal. Tubular tungsten carbide bare rods are classified on the basis of the mesh range, quantity, andcomposition of the tungsten carbide granules. A guide is appended to the specification as a source of informationconcerning the characteristics and applications of the c

8、American Welding Society StandardsAll standards (codes, specifications, recommended practices, methods, classifications, and guides) of the AmericanWelding Society (AWS) are voluntary consensus standards that have been developed in accordance with the rules of theAmerican National Standards Institut

9、e (ANSI). When AWS American National Standards are either incorporated in, ormade part of, documents that are included in federal or state laws and regulations, or the regulations of other govern-mental bodies, their provisions carry the full legal authority of the statute. In such cases, any change

10、s in those AWSstandards must be approved by the governmental body having statutory jurisdiction before they can become a part ofthose laws and regulations. In all cases, these standards carry the full legal authority of the contract or other documentthat invokes the AWS standards. Where this contrac

11、tual relationship exists, changes in or deviations from requirementsof an AWS standard must be by agreement between the contracting parties.AWS American National Standards are developed through a consensus standards development process that bringstogether volunteers representing varied viewpoints an

38、is specification prescribes the requirements for the classification of bare electrodes and rods for surfacing. Thespecification does not provide for classification of electrode-flux combinations for submerged arc welding.1.2 Safety and health issues and concerns are beyond the scope of this standard

39、 and, therefore, are not fully addressedherein. Some safety and health information can be found in the nonmandatory annex Clauses A5 and A10. Safety andhealth information is available from other sources, including, but not limited to, ANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting,and Allied Processes,1and

40、applicable federal and state regulations.1.3 This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units and the International System of Units (SI). The measure-ments are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other without combining inany way when referring to

41、 material. The specification with the designation A5.21 uses U.S. Customary Units. The speci-fication A5.21M uses SI Units.
