1、 1 ANSI/BHMA A156.13-2017 Revision of ANSI/BHMA A156.13-2012 AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD FOR MORTISE LOCKS (b) opening the door to clear the strike without contact; (c) releasing the lever or knob, to fully project the latch bolt; and (d) closing the door to produce full latching by means of a door c

2、loser or other suitable device. The test door shall have a 10 lbf (44 N) load at 30 in. (760 mm) 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) from its hinge point or equivalent moment loading the door against its stop. This test requirement is to simulate pulling a door open with a lever while being resisted by a door closer.

3、 Load shall not be applied during latch retraction. 15 7.3 Strength Testing Apparatus A test door or panel 30 in. (760 mm) minimum wide shall be provided. When testing locks with latches, it shall be mechanically operated to simulate normal operation of the lock while opening and closing the door th

4、rough a cycle consisting of the sequence described in Section 10. The mechanical operation shall also include track, hinges and closing devices suitable for swinging or sliding doors as applicable. Dead bolts do not require a swing door test fixture. 16 7.4 Material Evaluation Test Equipment 7.4.1 R

10、X1.2 8. OPERATIONAL TESTS 8.1 Dead Bolt Torque 8.1.1 Torque to Retract Dead bolt or Torque to Retract Dead Bolt and Latch Bolt by Turn. A torque meter shall be applied to the turn and slowly rotated until the bolt or bolts clear the strike without contact. The maximum measured torque to retract the

11、bolts shall not exceed the maximum specified. Requirements Maximum All Grades 9 lbf-in. (1 Nm) 8.1.2 Torque to Retract Dead Bolt or Torque to Retract Dead Bolt and Latch Bolt by Key. A torque meter shall be applied to the key and slowly rotated until the bolt or bolts clear the strike without contac

13、y rotate lever in a downward direction or rotate knob in a clockwise direction until the latch bolt clears the strike. Test both the outside and inside knobs both clockwise and counterclockwise. When the knob is unidirectional, test only in the direction of operation. Requirements Force to Retract B

A force meter shall be applied to the outside paddle in the direction of the opening swing of the door 1 in.

A force meter shall be applied perpendicular to the face of the door to a point 1 in. (25.4 mm)1/16 in. (1.6mm) from the lock edge of the door and on th

18、e center line of the latch bolt when the door is open just within 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) of the latch bolt contacting the lip of the strike. Close the door slowly by pushing the force meter against the door until the latch bolt fully enters the strike opening. The maximum measured force to fully latch the

19、 door shall not exceed the value specified. Requirements Maximum All Grades 4.5 lbf (20 N) 8.4 Torque to Retract Latch Bolt by Key 8.4.1 A torque meter shall be applied to the key and slowly rotated until the latch bolt clears the strike. The maximum measured torque to retract the latch bolt shall n

20、ot exceed the maximum specified. 8.4.2 Repeat 8.4.1 in the opposite direction (when the lock construction permits operation in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions). Requirements. Maximum All Grades 9 lbf-in. (1 Nm) 8.5 Minimum Projection of Latch Bolt When Depressed to Dead Latched Positi

21、on. Depress the auxiliary dead latch and then depress the latch bolt to the deadlocked position. Measure the projection of the depressed latch bolt from the centerline of the lock front to the end of the latch bolt. The measured projection shall not be less than the minimum specified: Requirements.

22、Minimum Grade 1 9/16 in. (14.3 mm) 22 Grade 2 and 3 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) 8.6 Minimum Projection of Auxiliary Dead Latch to Deadlock Latch Bolt. Where the auxiliary dead latch is movable to accommodate field handing changes, it shall be positioned in the direction of door swing before taking measurements

23、. Depress the auxiliary dead latch slowly and test the latch bolt for the start of the deadlocking action. Measure the projection of the depressed auxiliary dead latch from the centerline of the lock front to the end of auxiliary dead latch at the point of the first effective deadlocking. The measur

24、ed projection shall not be less than the minimum specified: Requirements Minimum Grade 1 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) Grade 2 and 3 5/16 in. (7.9 mm) 8.7 Warped Door Test Torque to Retract Preloaded Bolt (Warped Door) A 50 lbf (222 N) force is applied perpendicular to the door at a point 1 in. (25.4 mm) from th

25、e lock edge of the door and on the center line of the bolt. The 50 lbf (222 N) force shall load the bolt against the strike in the direction of opening the door and be sustained throughout the test. Breakage or other failure constitutes failure of the test. Failure of the trim also results in failur

26、e of the test. The maximum measured torque to retract the dead bolt or dead bolt and latch bolt to clear the strike without contact shall not exceed the value specified in 8.7.5. 8.7.1 For Keys, Turns, Knobs or Levers, a torque measuring device shall be applied and slowly rotated until the bolt is w

27、ithdrawn to within 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) of the lock front. For keys, does not apply to functions where the lever, knob, or paddle, after it is unlocked by key, can be operated to retract the latch bolt. 8.7.2 Lever, or Knob. A torque meter shall be applied to the outside lever or knob to slowly rotate t

28、he lever in a downward direction or rotate knob in a clockwise direction until the bolt is withdrawn to within 1/8 in. (3.22 mm) of the lock front. When the knob is unidirectional, only test in the direction of operation. 8.7.2.1 Repeat 8.7.2 to the outside knob in a counterclockwise direction with

29、the test applicable to the latch bolt or dead bolt or both. 8.7.2.2 Repeat 8.7.2 to the inside lever downward or the knob in a clockwise direction with the test applicable to the latch bolt or dead bolt or both. 8.7.2.3 Repeat 8.7.2 to the inside knob in a counterclockwise direction with the test ap

30、plicable to the latch bolt or dead bolt or both. 8.7.3 Entry Handleset Thumb Piece Apply a force guage at a point in. (6.4mm) 1/16 in. (1.6mm) from the end of the thumb piece until the bolt is withdrawn to within 1/8 in. (3.22 mm) of the lock front. 8.7.4 For Paddles, a force meter shall be applied

31、to the paddle in the direction of the opening swing of the door 1 in. (25.4 mm) from the free end of the paddle on the centerline until the bolt is withdrawn to within 1/8 in. CYCLE TESTS 9.1 Use samples which successfully passed Operational Tests 8.1 through 8.7 installed in the mechanically operated test door. 9.2 Cycle locksets per Section 7.2

33、 to the values in the following table at a rate not to exceed 30 cycles per minute, until the total cycles have been met for the grade being evaluated. Where agreed upon by the manufacturer and lab, the cycle rate may be increased pending verification that all cycling aspects are maintained. 9.3 Cyc

34、le Requirements Grade 1 Grades 2 and 3 1,000,000 800,000 Knobs with the load applied to the knob centerline, shall be cycled for the total number for the grade being evaluated, for 25% of the cycles and in a counterclockwise direction for the next 25% of the cycles alternately until the total requir

35、ement of paragraph 9.4 has been met. Unidirectional knobs shall be cycled in one direction only. Levers shall be cycled with a load applied to the active lever two inches from the spindle centerline, perpendicular and away from the door (opening direction). The load shall be created by applying a re

36、sistance to the door in the closing direction. They shall be cycled in one direction only. Handlesets shall be cycled without a load using an entry handleset cycle mount test fixture which depresses the thumb piece. Paddles Locks with paddles are permitted to be tested from either the push or the pu

37、ll side for the entire test. Test locks with paddles using cycle mount test fixture for paddles. The fixture shall be operated without a load. Permissible paddle cycle configuration 9.5 At 50% of the Cycle Test, repeat Operational Tests 8.1 through 8.7. Values shall meet the requirements specified b

41、omplete the Cycle Test. 9.7 Performance after Cycle Test At the completion of the Cycle Test, locks shall operate per the applicable functional descriptions. 10. STRENGTH TESTS 10.0 General Criteria Perform all of the strength tests in order on each of the three samples then perform the qualificatio

42、n tests in 10.7. Use the lockset tension test apparatus in 7.5.4. The lock shall remain in the same mount and not be repositioned or adjusted throughout the strength tests. Failure occurs if the door opens, or at the end of the testing, the qualification requirements are exceeded. 10.1 Locked Outsid

43、e Lever or Knob Torque Test Apply the required torque load to the locked lever or knob. Repeat in the opposite direction for knobs only. This test is to assure lock operation and security are maintained following application of a moderate force. Exception: If torque cannot be reached because of secu

44、rity design features and the lock remains locked after torque has been applied, the qualification test requirements of 11.7 shall still be met. Requirements All Grades minimum Levers 450 lbf-in. (50 Nm) Knobs 300 lbf-in. (34 Nm) 10.2 Axial Load Test 10.2.1 Lever or Knob Apply a force meter to the ou

45、tside lever or knob at the spindle axis perpendicular to the face of the door to load the latch bolt against the strike to the load specified. Repeat to the inside lever or knob. 10.2.2 Lever Apply a force meter to the outside lever 2 in. (51 mm) 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) from the spindle axis perpendicular

46、 to the face of the door to load the latch bolt against the strike to the load specified. 10.2.3 For Entry Handleset, perform 10.2.1 to locked outside thumb piece to the requirements specified. 10.2.4 Paddle Apply a load dynamometer to the outside paddle at the axle and 2 in. (51 mm) 1/16 in. (1.6 m

47、m) from the pivoting axle perpendicular to the face of the door to load the door against the stop to the load specified. Any trim limiting access to the axle may be removed for test. Repeat to the inside paddle. Requirements All Grades Minimum Knobs, levers at the Levers 2 in. (51 mm) Thumb pieces P

(1.6 mm) from the face of the door or the equivalent bending moment perpendicular to the paddle in the vertical position, lever or knob axis to the load specified With the paddle in the horizontal position, the load or the equivalent bending moment shall be applied parallel to the paddle axle.
