Certain features of the flanged spindle noses have been based on BS4442, “Lathe spindle noses and face plates”, Part1, “Types “A” and “Camlock” which itself is based on ISO/R702, “Spindle noses and face
14、plates. Type A and camlock. Sizes for interchangeability”. However, because of the accuracy requirements of grinding machines, a parallel register has been adopted in place of the taper register in BS4442. It is considered essential that the face plate should have a definite location against the spi
15、ndle flange thus avoiding the possibility of swash, which can occur when tightening a face plate onto a cone. In addition, this facilitates the final adjustment necessary to obtain the desired degree of concentricity on assembly. A flanged type of nose is being adopted down to the smallest size whic
16、h will permit the front fixing of chucks. For the smaller sizes, screwed spindle noses have been adopted. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract.
