Suggestions for improvement will be recorded and in due course brought to the notice of the committees charged with the revision of the standards to which they refer. A complete list of British Standards, numbering over4000, indexed a

This British Standard has been prepared under the authority of the Mechanical Engineering Industry Standards Committee, in response to a request from the Society of Motor Manufactu
15、rers and Traders. Steel spring washers have been standardized overseas, mainly in the railway field, while standardization in this country has concentrated on the aircraft industry, in which special attention to the degree of flatness of faces has been necessary. It has, therefore, been found advisa
16、ble to differentiate between steel spring washers intended for aircraft work and those for automobile and general engineering purposes, with which this British Standard is concerned. The term “lock washer” has been omitted from the title and text of the standard as it has been agreed that a “spring
17、washer” is not necessarily a “lock washer.” Certain types of spring washer are available to which the latter term does apply, and, since details of them are not included in the specification, it is considered that the use of the term would be misleading. The standard is primarily concerned with dime
18、nsions, but to assist in reducing the wide range of stock sections of wire, only one dimensional grade has been given for each of types A, B and D. Clauses relating to material, heat treatment, hardness and certain test requirements are also included. In accordance with BSI policy concerning the int

A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance
