、eir errors of form (errors of form are errors of shape such as the concavity or convexity of a surface that is nominally flat, or the out-of-squareness of a block that is nominally rectangular). The standard is applicable to bricks or blocks of any type and is intended for use by both manufacturers

、and users. The methods described are intended for use in measuring refractory bricks and blocks whenever there is dispute or difficulty; they may therefore be termed referee methods. In the accuracy achieved and in their cost in terms of manpower and equipment, they are intermediate between routine

、methods and laboratory methods; in routine methods a single measurement of each dimension often suffices, and in laboratory methods (such as the measurement of test pieces in accordance with BS 1902 : Section 3.2) linear dimensions are measured using a Vernier caliper. The measurement of test pieces

、 is outside the scope of this Section (see BS 1902 : Section 3.21, as also is the assessment of defects for inspection by attributes (for which BS 1902 : Section 3.13 is in course of preparation). This Section supersedes clauses 52 and 54 of BS 1902 : Part IA : 1966, which have been deleted by amend

、ment. The method for measuring size described here is essentially the same as that of clause 52, but given in more detail. Measurement of warpage using a steel rule and wedges has been substituted for measurement using a steel rule and a depth gauge described in clause 54. Compliance with a British
