In this revision, which uses me

13、tric units throughout, only light duty mild steel drums with removable heads are specified, the heavy duty drums of this type now being excluded. Nominal drum capacities from15litres to120 litres have been provided for, nominal capacities being used for identification purposes with maximum and minim

14、um volumetric capacities being specified as an aid to filling calculations. A reduction has been made in the number of drum diameters specified. Drums of a given capacity and diameter are now classified according to the thickness of sheet material from which they are made, rather than according to d

15、rum style as classified previously. Six classes of drum are now specified. Drum handles, where fitted, are specified in terms of performance. Minimum ullage is no longer specified expressly although allowance for ullage is implicit in the specification of both nominal and volumetric capacities. Cert

For their guidanceAppendix B lists those items regarding which purchasers preferences, if any, should be stated. A British Standard does not purport to incl

Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages

The drums shall be made from annealed low carbon mild steel sheets 1) . If so specified by the purchaser the sheets shall be tin coated (se

21、e BS2920), galvanized (see BS2989) or otherwise treated. 3.2 Thickness. The thickness of the sheet metal used for the body and ends shall comply with the values given inTable 1. Variations in thickness shall comply with limits specified in BS1449-1, BS2920 and BS2989, as appropriate. 4 Styles This s

22、tandard covers the four basic types of open ended drum as follows. 5 Construction 5.1 Body. The body of the drum shall be made from a single sheet of metal. When a drum is made from uncoated mild steel sheet the longitudinal seam shall be welded. When a drum is made from tinplate, galvanized or othe

23、rwise treated steel sheet the longitudinal seam shall be folded, locked and soldered; alternatively, the seam shall be welded and, if required, suitably recoated internally and externally. The top of the body shall be curled or shaped to receive the removable head. 5.2 Drums with plain or beaded bod

24、ies. Clip kegs may be supplied with or without strengthening beads adjacent to the aperture. Ring kegs and pails shall incorporate the strengthening bead. 5.3 Drums with pressed out rolling hoops. Drums with internal diameter greater than355.6mm shall have two pressed rolling hoops projecting beyond

25、 the surface of the body. The rolling hoops shall be approximately equidistant from the ends and shall have280 3mm between centres. 5.4 Ends (bottoms). The ends shall be recessed pressings suitably formed to fit the body of the drum. Drums of 355.6mm or less internal diameter may have the bottoms re

26、duced in diameter. This makes possible stacking with the bottoms nesting into the recesses of the tops of adjacent drums of like diameter. When a drum is made from uncoated mild steel sheet the circumferential end seam shall be either double seamed and compound sealed, or double seamed and welded. W

27、hen a drum is made from tinplate, galvanized or otherwise treated steel sheet, the circumferential end seam shall be either double seamed and compound sealed, or double seamed and soldered. 5.5 Ends (heads or tops). Ends shall be recessed pressings suitably formed to fit the curled or shaped apertur

The strap handle, or t

29、he wire drop handle in the down position, shall not project above the chimb. 1) BS1449-1 includes sheets of suitable grades. a) Clip keg 228.6mm to355.6mm internal diameter, seeFigure 1 and Figure 2 b) Ring keg 228.6mm to355.6mm internal diameter, seeFigure 3 c) Pail 228.6mm to355.6mm internal diame

Figure 6 illustrates a hook attachment that can be used to achieve an even distribution of load across the carrying width of the handle. 6.2 The handle or handle retaining lugs shall be either riveted or welded in position. 7 Size and class Drums shall be designat

32、ed by the appropriate nominal capacity and class specified inTable 1. 8 Dimensions and tolerances 8.1 General. The drums shall, within the limits of tolerance specified, conform to the dimensions given inTable 1. 8.2 Tolerances. The manufacturing tolerances shall be as follows. 9 Closures If drums a

33、re fitted with closures to give a filling or emptying orifice in the head, the closures shall not project beyond the chimb. Methods of sealing clip kegs, ring kegs, full aperture drums and pails are given inAppendix C. 10 Finish The nature of the internal and external finish required shall be agreed

34、 between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 11 Cleanliness Drums as delivered shall be dry, clean and free from rust, scale and foreign matter. 12 Testing 12.1 The side seam and bottom seam shall be tested by air pressure and they shall withstand, without leakage, an air pressure of20kPa for sheets

35、 of thickness0.50mm or less, and35kPa for sheets thicker than0.50mm. 12.2 If performance tests are required, the details shall be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser, and the manufacturer shall give the purchaser facilities to witness the tests. 13 Marking When agreed between the purch

36、aser and the manufacturer, the drums shall have the following marks embossed on one end, in type of a size appropriate to the sheet thickness, but in no case exceeding50mm in height. a) The manufacturers identification mark. b) The number of this British Standard and class as “BS2003/.”. c) The thic

46、ard contains certain alternatives to the requirements for metal drums, the purchaser should state his alternative requirements, if applicable, as follows. a) Whether the steel sheets are to be coated (see3.1). b) Whether the seam of the body is to be folded, locked and soldered or welded (see5.1). c

47、) What form of circumferential end seaming is to be used (see5.4). d) Whether or not a handle is required, and if so, the type required (see6.1). e) Details of closure (see clause9). f) Details of internal and external finish required (see clause10). g) Whether marking is required (see clause13). h)

48、 Whether access to testing and inspection is required (see clause14). Appendix C Methods of sealing Heads of clip kegs are normally a drive-in fit and are retained by bend-over lugs attached to the body (seeFigure 1) or bend-over lugs attached to the head (seeFigure 2). Gaskets are not normally used

49、. Ring kegs (seeFigure 3) and full aperture drums (seeFigure 5) incorporate a closing ring of the latch, lever, or nut and bolt design. The head is not a tight fit and the seal is achieved by the use of a gasket in conjunction with the closing ring. A pail (seeFigure 4) incorporates a multi-lug cover, i.e. lugs formed in the pressing of the head, which are clinched into the sealed position by a special closing tool. A gasket is incorporated.
