15、acturer and the purchaser, in which case the condition in which the material is to be supplied shall be stated on the order. Table 2 Condition of supply8 Freedom from defects8.1 Surface defects Visual examinationThe rod and wire shall be visually examined in accordance with BS S 100.8.2 Surface defe
16、cts Deep etching testsSamples of rod and wire, selected and prepared for examination in accordance with BS S 100,shall be immersed in a solution containing 10 % by volume of concentrated nitric acid and 3.5 % by volume of hydrofluoric acid (40 % HF) in water at approximately 60 C. The time of immers
17、ion shall be approximately two seconds for every 0.025 mm of diameter, but shall not be less than two minutes nor more than ten minutes. An alternative solution may be used if agreed by the Inspecting Authority 8.3 Alternatively to 8.2, for wire of less than 2.0 mm diameter the deep etching test sha
18、ll be replaced by a twisting test. The test samples selected shall have a test length of 100 diameters and shall be twisted at a speed not exceeding 60 r/min until failure occurs. The wire shall be examined after five turns and after failure and shall show no evidence of defects likely to be detrime
19、ntal to the end use.9 Final heat treatmentThe final heat treatment of the springs and the tensile test pieces representing the springs shall be:Low temperature heat treatment at a temperature between 350 C and 450 C for not less than 30 min.10 Mechanical properties10.1 Tensile test (wire and springs
20、 only)10.1.1 Wire. The tensile properties of test pieces for wire, selected prepared and tested in accordance with BS S 100, shall comply with the tensile range given in Table 3.10.1.2 Test pieces representing springs. The tensile properties of test pieces representing springs, selected, prepared an
21、d tested in accordance with BS S 100 and heat treated in accordance with Clause 9, shallcomply with the minimum tensile strength values given in Table 3.10.2 Reverse bend test (wire only, 3.0 mm diameter or thickness and greater)The test pieces, selected in accordance with BS S 100, shall be taken f
22、rom wire in the condition as deliveredand shall not be heat treated before being tested in accordance with BS S 100. For round wire, the testpiece shall be bent over suitable formers having radii not exceeding three times the nominal wirediameter and shall withstand, without cracking, three complete
