10、 determining the thickness of foil 3BS3313-1:1968 ii BSI 11-1999 Foreword This standard makes reference to the following BritishStandards: BS1470, Specification for wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys for general engineering purposes: plate, sheet and strip. BS1610, Materials testing machines and
11、 force verification equipment. BS6106, Specification for1 pint(568ml) multi-trip glass bottles for pasteurized milk. This BritishStandard forms Part1 of a specification in two parts, which was first prepared under the authority of the Dairying Industry Standards Committee in accordance with a joint
12、proposal from the British Aluminium Foil Rollers Association and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, supported by the Society of Dairy Technology, in1961. Part1 was originally intended to cover the requirements for capping foil for ordinary milk bottles, and Part2 to cover the thicker m
13、aterials for use where stronger and stiffer aluminium strip is necessary. However, during the preparation of Part2, it was decided to alter the scope of the two parts to cover capping foil for glass containers and for plastics containers respectively, and for the standard as a whole to cover foil fo
14、r dairy product containers in general. This revision of Part1 removes the specification of particular permitted widths of capping foil, partly owing to the wide variety of container dimensions now available and partly owing to the development of higher-speed capping machines which require differing
15、widths of foil. One larger reel diameter has been included. NOTEThe coherent system of units adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), known as the SI system has been used in this revision. Thus forces are quoted in terms of the newton (N) and stresses in terms of the bar
16、(bar). The bar is defined as10 5 N/m 2 , and the newton as that force which, when applied to a body having a mass of one kilogramme, gives it an acceleration of one metre per second squared. Equivalents in metric units are given for the convenience of users unfamiliar with SI units. 1bar=10.1972gf/m

19、 Part1 of this BritishStandard covers requirements for aluminium foil, of a thickness not exceeding0.1mm, for caps and other skirted closures for glass dairy product containers. 2 Material 2.1 Chemical composition. Capping foil shall be made of aluminium complying with the requirements for chemical
20、composition of BS1470 1) , 1200. 2.2 Condition. The material shall be either annealed (soft) or of an intermediate temper as agreed between the purchaser and the vendor. 2.3 Tensile strength. When tested by the method given in Appendix A, the tensile strength of the material shall comply with the fo
21、llowing: 3 Width The widths of capping foil shall be as agreed between the purchaser and the vendor. Attention is, however, drawn to the requirements of BS6106 2)with regard to the nominal external diameters of milk bottle neck finishes. The tolerance on the agreed width shall be 0.35mm. 4 Thickness
22、 The nominal thickness of capping foil shall be as agreed between the purchaser and the vendor. The thickness shall be determined by the method described in Appendix B. When measured by the method described in Appendix B, the thickness of any specimen of the foil shall not deviate by more than10% on
23、 either side of the agreed nominal thickness. When the thickness of any sample falls outside this limit, the reel of foil concerned shall be deemed not to comply with this BritishStandard. 5 Lubricant Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, the reel of capping foil shall be supplied in the pre-
24、lubricated condition. The composition of any lubricant shall be such that it does not contain substances injurious to health or have any deleterious effect on the quality, flavour, odour or appearance of the dairy product. If the lubricant is a mineral oil, it shall comply with the requirements of p
25、aragraphs1,2 and3 of Part1 of the Schedule to the Mineral Hydrocarbons in Food Regulations,1966 (S.I.1966, No.1073). 6 Coating The capping foil shall be plain or finished with an outer surface coating material and/or printed according to the requirements of the purchaser. No transfer of colouring ma
26、tter or printing ink to the inner surface of the foil in the reel and/or to the dairy product shall occur. The composition of any inner surface coating used shall be such that it does not contain substances injurious to health or have any deleterious effect on the quality, flavour, odour or appearan

The cores shall be made of metal, cardboard or plastics as agreed between the purchaser and the vendor. They shall have an internal diameter of58mm (nomi

Cores shall not be split and the ends of the cores shall not project beyond the exposed edges of the foil. 7.2 Reel diameters 7.2.1 Except as provided in7.2.3, reel diameters shall conform to the ranges: 7.2.2 Not more than10% of the weight of the reels supplied shall fall outside the d
30、iameter range specified by the purchaser. 7.2.3 For orders of less than250kg(5cwt) the lower diameter limit specified in7.2.1 shall not apply. 7.3 Joins. There shall be no joins in any reel. 7.4 Attachment to core. Text deleted. 8 Storage Reels of foil shall be stored under clean, cool, dry conditio

It is recommended that reels of foil should not be stored for longer than six months from the date of delivery. 9 Marking Reels of foil, or the documents relating thereto, shall be marked with the following information: 1) The number of this Br

35、r determining the tensile strength of aluminium foil shall be a machine conforming to the following requirements: 1) Having two clamps which move in the direction of the applied stress so aligned that they will hold the specimen in one plane throughout the test without slip. At the start of the test
36、, the edges of the jaws of the clamps shall shall be1005mm apart. 2) Having means of applying a gradually increasing force to the specimen until it breaks, the increase being such that the additional force applied each second is not different by more than5% from the additional force applied in the p

The rate of loading shall be between2.26N/s and14.7N/s(0.23kgf/s and1.5kgf/s). 3) Having means of indicating the applied force at the instant of fracture to an accuracy of 2%. Therange shall be such that the breaki

A.2 Calibration It is recommended that the test apparatus is calibrated by the appropriate method described in BS1610 3) , at least once every12 months. A.3 Preparation of the specimens Five specimens shall be cut from the

Determine the thickness of each specimen by the method described in Appendix B.2. A.4 Method of test The specimens shall be cla

Then tightly clamp the lower end and apply the load. If during testing uneven tension is evident across the strip the test shall be aba

The tensile strength of each piece shall be calculated in hectobars from the original area of the cross section and the force required to break the specimen. The tensile strength of the sample shall be reported as the arithmetic
