、ands for use in hospitals. 2 References The titles of the BritishStandards referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Dimensions The dimensions of the bowl stand shall be as follows. Internal diameter of the bowl ring:310mm, to carry a355mm diameter bowl. Overall and effecti
、ve heights: the overall height with the bowl in position for both the single bowl stand and the two-bowl side-by-side stand shall be855mm (see Figure 1) and the effective height from the floor to the top of the tie-bars shall be250mm. For the two-bowl side-by-side stand the distance between the ring
、s (clear) shall be100mm. The maximum overall dimensions for the single bowl stand shall be450mm 450mm and for the two-bowl stand shall be800mm width 450mm depth. The dimensions specified above shall be subject to a tolerance of 3mm. 4 Materials 4.1 The framework of the stand shall be of electrically
、 welded stainless steel tubing, to the requirements of BS3014, grade2. 4.2 The upright supports shall be not less than25mm outside diameter and1.6mm wall thickness. The tube for the rings, bowl supports and ring tie-bars shall be16mm outside diameter and1.6mm wall thickness. 4.3 For single bowl stan
、ds the horizontal tie-bar tubes shall be not less than12mm outside diameter and1.6mm wall thickness. 4.4 For two-bowl stands the horizontal tie-bar tubes may be arranged in the form of one longitudinal member joining the centres of two transverse members. The tie-bar tubes shall be not less than16mm
、 outside diameter and1.6mm wall thickness. 5 Construction 5.1 A bowl stand shall comprise a framework of tubular metal complying with the requirements of clause3 and having either one bowl ring or two bowl rings side-by-side, at the option of the purchaser, each ring to support a stainless steel bow
、l. 5.2 The framework of the stand shall be either inert-gas arc welded or resistance welded. For inert-gas metal arc or inert-gas tungsten arc welding the filler rod shall comply with the requirements of BS2901; Part 2, type347S96. Bowl support tubes shall be welded either to the upright or to the r
、ings. Tie bars shall be welded to the uprights. 5.3 Welding shall be in accordance with the requirements of BS3019-2, neatly and correctly executed on fully prepared joints, free from all defects and finishing marks, having adequate penetration to ensure complete fusion of metals. The dressing of we
、lds shall be accurately executed to avoid impairment of joint strength. There shall be no sharp edges or crevices which may harbour dirt or foreign matter. 5.4 There shall be no exposed sharp edges on the framework or on the finished stand and no unsealed formation which may harbour dirt or foreign
、matter. All exposed ends of the tube shall be sealed by welding. 5.5 Electrical continuity shall be maintained between the bowl and the framework. 5.6 Each bowl ring shall comprise a tube bent into a circle with a100mm gap which shall be central to any pair of adjacent legs on single bowl stands and
、 at opposite ends on double bowl stands. The ends of the tube shall be plugged, welded and smoothly finished. 5.7 The bowl support tubes shall be arranged in such a manner as to provide a stable support for the bowl. Some typical ways of effecting this are shown in Figure 2, Figure 3 and Figure 4. 5
、.8 The distance between the top of the bowl support tubes and the top of the rings shall be such that the bowl is supported with its rim approximately50mm above the top of the ring. The function of the ring is to act as a locator only. This will also allow for aseptic handling and easy removal of th
、e bowl. 5.9 The framework for single bowl stands shall consist of three vertical tubes, equidistant from each other. The vertical tubes shall be curved or set inwards at the upper end with an internal radius of75mm to support and be joined to the side of the ring. Three tie-bars shall be provided, j
、oining the vertical tubes.BS3475:1976 2 BSI 12-1999 5.10 The framework for two-bowl stands shall consist of two pairs of vertical tubes. The vertical tubes shall be curved or set inwards at the upper end with an internal radius of75mm. One ring tie-bar shall be provided supporting and joined to the
、rings on their undersurface. Tie-bars shall be provided joining the vertical tubes. 6 Castors 6.1 Each single bowl stand shall be fitted with three castors and each two-bowl stand shall be fitted with four castors. Castors shall be securely fixed and shall meet the anti-static and other requirements
、 of BS2099-1. Castor wheels shall be65mm diameter and of a type as ordered by the purchaser. 6.2 The castor tyres shall be of a composition which does not permanently stain the floor. The maximum limit of electrical resistance shall be10 4 ohms. 7 Buffers The bowl stand shall be fitted with buffers
、for the purpose of noise abatement. The buffers shall be attached to bowl rings and bowl supports and shall be of anti-static rubber composition having an electrical resistance not exceeding10 6 ohms; the electrical resistance of the buffers shall be tested between the bowl and the metal framework o
、f the stand by the method described in BS2050. They shall be of coiled pattern as illustrated in Figure 5. The buffers shall be clearly and indelibly marked with a yellow spot to indicate that they are anti-static. The colour used for this purpose shall be similar to no. 355 “lemon” as specified in
、BS381C. 8 Finish 8.1 Sufficient welding materials shall be applied to allow for subsequent dressing smooth all over, without weakening the joint. There shall be no exposed sharp edges on the framework or on the finished trolley, and no unsealed formation which may harbour dirt or foreign matter. The
、 finish, including welds, shall be mirror polished to the requirements of finish no.8 of BS1449-2. 8.2 The castors (except for the wheel centres) shall be chromium plated to the requirements of service condition no.2 of BS1224. 9 Bowl The bowl shall comply with the requirements specified for355mm di
、ameter wash bowls in BS1823. 10 Marking 10.1 Bowl stands complying with the requirements of this BritishStandard shall be clearly and indelibly marked with the following. a) The name, trade mark or other means of identification of the manufacturer. b) The year of manufacture. c) The number of this B
、ritishStandard i.e.BS3475. 10.2 The castors shall be marked as required in BS2099-1.
