This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS405:1987 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for designation, material, manufacture and dimensions of uncoated conventional and flattened

12、 expanded metal carbon steel sheets for general purposes. NOTE 1The information to be supplied by the purchaser in the enquiry and order is given inAppendix A. NOTE 2The title of the publication referred to in this standard is listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this B

13、ritish Standard the following definitions apply. 2.1 long way of mesh (LW) for conventional expanded metal the length of the pitch of the major axis of the diamond. For flattened expanded metal the length of the major axis of the aperture (seeFigure 1) 2.2 short way of mesh (SW) for conventional exp

14、anded metal the length of the pitch of the minor axis of the diamond. For flattened expanded metal the length of the minor axis of the aperture (seeFigure 1) 3 Material The blank steel sheets or plates from which expanded metal is made shall be one of the grades specified in BS1449-1. NOTEUnless the

15、 purchaser indicates at the time of enquiry and order which of the grades is required, the manufacturer will supply either grade CR4 or HR4 at his discretion. 4 Manufacture 4.1 Conventional expanded metal Each sheet of conventional expanded metal shall be made by slitting steel plate or sheet and st

16、retching the strands so formed at right angles to the plane of the steel plate or sheet so as to form a network of diamond shaped holes. 4.2 Flattened expanded metal Flattened expanded metal shall be produced by rolling of conventional expanded metal so that the strands are in the same plane as the

17、sheet. 5 Dimensions 5.1 Sheet size Sheet sizes shall be specified with the long way dimension first followed by the nominal short way dimension (eg,2440 long way of mesh,1220 nominal short way of mesh) (seeFigure 2). NOTEIn this example, the normal abbreviation would be2440LW 1220SW. 5.2 Tolerances

18、on sheet sizes The tolerances on sheet sizes for conventional expanded metal shall be as follows. NOTE 1More precise tolerances can be made available. NOTE 2No tolerances are specified for sizes of flattened expanded metal but sheets that are denoted inTable 6 as being normally available are always

19、supplied oversize. NOTE 3No tolerances are specified for flatness, levelness, or out of squareness. 6 Tolerances on mass per square metre The tolerances on mass per square metre shall be as given inTable 1. The mesh reference numbers, nominal mesh sizes, nominal masses per square metre and nominal thicknesses before flattening for flattened expanded metal sheets shall be as given inTable 6. NOTE 1The calcu

NOTE 2For conventional expanded metal two calculated values for percentage of open area are shown. (SeeFigure 3.) a) Normal incidence, i.e. when viewed with the sheet held a

For flattened expanded metal the calculated normal incidence value only is shown inTable 6. 8 Fin

25、ish The finished expanded metal sheets shall be free from flaws, joins, broken strands and other inherent raw material defects. 9 Marking For each consignment of expanded metal sheets the manufacturer shall attach securely an identification label bearing the following information. a) The manufacture
