6、5 ii BSI 07-1999 Foreword This Part of BS 4185 has been prepared under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee and is based upon a draft submitted by the Machine Tool Industry Research Association. In formulating the standard, rationalization of the possible sizes of counterb
7、ored hole has been made in order to keep the variety of counterboring tools to a minimum. Clearance hole diameters are taken from the medium fit series of BS 4186 except for sizes M12 and M16. For these, diameters have been selected from the close fit series in order to provide less clearance around
8、 the screw and a greater bearing surface under the cap head. With the exception of hole sizes M2.5 and M30 which will require counterboring tools with a special pilot diameter, and sizes M5, M8, M10, M20, M24 and also M30 which will require tools with special cutting diameters, the standard is inten
9、ded for use with counterbores selected from BS 328-5. Alternatively, sub-land drills may be used to form the counterbore and clearance hole in one operation. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for thei
