9、of BS4409 has been prepared under the direction of theMechanical Handling Standards Policy Committee. It supersedes BS4409-1:1969 which is withdrawn. It applies to fixed trough type screw conveyors. Portable and mobile type screw conveyors are covered by BS4409-2. This Part of BS4409 has been revise
10、d to align with modern manufacturing practice and usage. Safety requirements will be the subject of a future part of thestandard. The attention of users of this British Standard is drawn to the need to comply with all the statutory instruments and regulations applicable to the equipment covered by t

13、nt cover.BS4409-1:1991 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS4409 specifies the requirements for the materials, dimensions and power provision for fixed trough type screw conveyors constructed of carbon steel and stainless steel in sizes from100mm to1250mm nominal diameter. NOTE 1Information to be su

NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definitions apply. 2.1 nominal diameter of a screw conveyor the outside diame
15、ter of the helical screw 2.2 coupling shaft a solid member which connects sections of tubular shafts 2.3 radial clearance the clearance between the helical screw and the interior of the trough 2.4 drive shaft end the end of the solid shaft to which the drive is fitted 2.5 shaft height the height of
16、the centre line of the shaft above the foot of the trough support 2.6 height above shaft the distance from the centre line of the shaft to the top of the trough 3 Materials The sheet steel components of fixed trough type screw conveyor (auger) bodies shall be constructed of carbon steel complying wi
17、th BS1449-1 or stainless steel complying with BS1449-2. Steel tubular shafts shall comply with BS6323-1 and BS6323-3 or BS6323-8. Drive shafts shall be manufactured from steel complying with BS970-1. 4 Dimensions NOTEThe dimensions specified in this standard apply to carbon steel and stainless steel
18、 components and revised dimensions may be required for other materials. 4.1 Troughs and helical screws The dimensions of troughs and helical screws shall be in accordance withTable 1 andTable 2 respectively. NOTEThe relevant dimensions are illustrated inFigure 1. 4.2 Discharge openings The width of
19、the discharge opening shall be equal to the trough width and the length of the discharge opening shall be not less than the trough width, as given inTable 1. 26、with coupling shafts. Drive shaft ends shall comply with BS4506. 6 Guarding The manufacturer shall provide the purchaser with a written statement detailing the extent of the guarding supplied by the manufacturer. NOTEAttention is drawn to the appropriate statutory requirements. 7 Drives 7.1 General
27、The power unit shall be continuously rated and shall withstand the working conditions arising from the siting and use of the conveyor. NOTEThe prime movers may include an electric motor, internal combustion engine, hydraulic motor or tractor power take-off. When considering prime movers, the followi
28、ng should be borne in mind. a) A prime mover of adequate power and suitable type should be used. b) Any electric motor should comply with the Institution of Electrical Engineers Regulations 1) . c) If electric motor drives are used due consideration should be given to the starting torque and to rest
29、arting under load. 7.2 V-belts Where V-belts drives are used, they shall comply with BS3733 or BS3790. 7.3 Starting and stopping Where direct on-line starters are used they shall be fixed to a permanent structure. At any point where an operator has access to the conveyor means shall be provided for
30、stopping the conveyor in an emergency. Every device controlling a prime mover(s) shall be clearly visible and clearly marked to indicate how the prime mover(s) can be stopped and restarted. NOTEThe controls should permit a safe start-up and restart procedure to be followed. 8 Marking Screw conveyors
31、 shall be permanently and legibly marked with the following information: a) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e.BS4409-1:1991 2) . b) the manufacturers name or trademark. NOTEWhere a controlled steady output rate is required, this shou
35、ld be stated together with details of the input feed conditions; c) feed, whether flood or controlled; d) details of any special operating conditions such as damp or corrosive atmosphere, fire or explosion hazard, abnormal ambient temperatures, noise level limitations; e) whether the conveyor is to
36、operate horizontal or inclined; f) if inclined, full particulars; g) length of conveyor: centre line of inlet to centre line of outlet; h) overall length inside trough end plates; i) any restrictions on space available; j) type, number and position of inlets; k) type, number and position of outlets;
37、 l) constructional materials; m) special sealing requirements; n) weatherproofing; o) type of drive; p) material(s) to be handled: 1) description; 2) density; 3) moisture content; 4) lump sizes and percentage proportions of lump size ranges; 5) abrasive/non-abrasive/corrosive; 6) temperature; 7) oth
