Because of the diversity of shape of test pieces, practical tests have not been included. This Part of this standard is generally in accordance with ISO6480:19
、83 “Conditions of acceptance for horizontal internal broaching machines Testing of the accuracy”. It differs from ISO6480 in the following respects. Clauses. Clauses1, 3 and4 contain the same information as is given in ISO6480 but they are expressed in accordance with an accepted format that has bee
、n adopted for the BS4656 series of standards. Clause5 has been added. Inch dimensions. In accordance with the United Kingdom policy of metrication, inch dimensions given in ISO6480 have not been included in this British Standard. Tables and tests. In column6 of Table 1, reference to ISO/R230 “Machin
、e tool test code” has been replaced by reference to BS3800. In test G0, in column6 the note is different from that in ISO6480 which was rather vague. In test G2, the permissible deviation is the same as that given in Part18:1973 which the United Kingdom wishes to maintain. ISO6480 gives a wider tole
、rance than this. In test G3, the diagram from Part18:1973 has been retained because it illustrates a more sensible way of carrying out the test. The permissible deviation is also the same as that in the 1973 edition of this standard. ISO6480 gives a wider tolerance and thus reduces the quality of ma
、chine. In test G5, the method of expressing the permissible deviation has been clarified but the numerical value is effectively the same as ISO6480. In the observations column, reference to the dial gauge being turned through360 around the centre hole has been deleted to avoid confusion. In test G6,
、 the method shown in Part18:1973 has been added as an alternative test as this is equally acceptable technically. The method of expressing the permissible deviation is more correct than that used in ISO6480. The designation and description of types1 and2 have been added for clarification. This test

、S3800, geometrical tests for broaching machines, horizontal internal type and gives corresponding permissible deviations which apply. This standard is applicable to machines of general purpose use and normal accuracy. It deals only with the verification of accuracy of the machine. It does not apply
、to the testing of the running of the machine (vibrations, abnormal noises, stick-slip motion of components etc.) nor to its characteristics (speeds, feeds, etc.) which should generally be checked before testing accuracy. 2 References The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are li
、sted on the inside back cover. 3 Application of test methods 3.1 In applying the tests detailed in Table 1, reference should be made to BS3800, especially concerning the installation of the machine before testing, warming up of moving parts, the description of measuring methods and the recommended a
、ccuracy of testing equipment. 3.2 The tests may be applied in any order that is practicable and that makes for ease of mounting of instruments or gauging. The sequence in which the geometrical tests are listed in Table 1 is related to the sub-assemblies of the machine and it is not intended to impos
、e the practical order in which the tests are to be done. 3.3 It is not always necessary for all the tests specified in this standard to be carried out. The purchaser shall be at liberty to select, in agreement with the manufacturer, those tests relating to the properties that are of interest to him.
、 The appropriate tests are to be clearly stated when the machine is ordered. 3.4 When establishing the tolerance for a measuring range different from that given in this standard (see2.311 of BS3800:1964), it should be taken into consideration that the minimum value of tolerance is0.01mm for geometri
、cal tests. 4 Abbreviations For the purposes of this standard, various methods of expressing permissible deviations are employed, each having a particular type of application. The methods employed are as follows. 5 Diagrams For reasons of simplicity the diagrams in this standard illustrate only one t
