、ntaining a helical rigid polymeric reinforcement. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Apparatus A test rig is required with a hydraulic circuit capable of applying an internal hydraulic pressure which can be released at a predetermin
、ed level, delaying the pressure cycle by a fixed period of time and then repeating the cycle. The cycle shall comply with the pressure/time requirements ofFigure 1. NOTE 1A suitable circuit is shown inFigure 2. NOTE 2Unless otherwise agreed between the hose manufacturer and the user, the test fluid
、should be water, which may be suitably dyed. 3 Test pieces A minimum of three test pieces shall be used for each test. The length of each test piece shall be such that there is a clear distance between the fittings of at least five times the internal diameter. 4 Conditioning No test shall be carried
、 out within24h of manufacture. Test pieces shall be conditioned at23 2 C for at least3h before testing. This period may be part of the24h following manufacture. 5 Test procedure 5.1 Attach the test piece to the system in a straight condition and ensure that all air is purged from the system with the
、 test fluid. 5.2 Apply a pulsating sequence as shown in Figure 1 with the test fluid temperature maintained at23 2 C. 5.3 Repeat the cycle to hose failure or for the specified number of cycles. NOTEThe test pressure and minimum number of cycles before failure should be specified in the individual ho
、se specification or should be agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 5.4 Note the position and mode of failure for each test piece. NOTEThe test piece is considered to have failed if it develops a leak or ruptures (i.e. the reinforcement helix breaks). Discard any test piece which fails
、within a distance of one hose internal diameter from either coupling and test another test piece. 6 Test report The test report shall include the following information: a) the hose type and nominal bore; b) the date of manufacture and batch number or reference if known; c) the method of manufacture
、and details of reinforcement; d) details of end fittings used; e) the number and Section of this British Standard, i.e. BS5173-102.8; f) the test pressure; g) the test fluid and any dye used; h) the test piece length; i) the number of cycles to failure of each test piece; j) the position and mode of
