7、When using the fan for matching, it should be borne in mind that the relative appearance of surface colours is affected by the character of the light in which they are compared. Thus, close matches under one illuminant may not be close under others, a phenomenon known as metamerism. It is recommende
8、d there- fore that comparisons should be made under good diffuse daylight or under an illuminant which meets the requirement of Part 1 Illuminant forcolour matching and colour appraisal of ES 950 Artificial daylight for the assessment of colour. For applications for interior use, samples should also
9、 be compared with the individ- ual patches under tungsten light in order to detect severe metamerism. To aid matching it will be necessary to abscure patches adjoining the one in use. For this purpose a grey mask is included with the fan. 4. Caution The colours in this fan may change with time. It i
10、s therefoie important to keep the fan out of the light except when in use and avoid handling the pitches themselves.
