It is based on proposals submitted by the Machine Tool Trades Association. It should be noted that broaching machines are dealt with

、 in the BS4656 “The accuracy of machine tools and methods of test” series of standards. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of

This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be

、 indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS5326:1976 BSI 12-1999 1 1 Scope This standard specifies a range of nominal shank dimensions for both the pull and tail ends of internal broaches for use on broaching machines, vertical type. The standard specifies certain dimensions for l

、ocating the pull chuck in the pull block of broaching machines, vertical internal type. The constant dimension between the top of the pull block and the platen surface is also given. The standard is particularly applicable to automatic handling of broaching tools. 2 Reference The title of the Britis

、h Standard referred to in this standard is given on inside back cover. 3 Pull and tail ends of internal broaches 3.1 Dimensions. The shanks of both the pull and tail ends of broaches shall be of the form indicated inFigure 1 and conform to the dimensions given inTable 1. The overall length of the br

、oach shall depend on the particular application. The flat machined to dimension “G” is only used when the radial position of broach to workpiece is important. 3.2 Material and surface texture. The material of the broach and the surface texture of the shanks are left to the discretion of the manufact

、urer, but shall be consistent with the safe and efficient use of the broach. 3.3 Designation. Broach shanks complying with the requirements of this standard shall be designated by the number of the standard and the nominal shank diameter, e.g. BS5326-20. 4 Pull chuck locations 4.1 Dimensions. The di

、mensions for the location of the pull chuck in the pull block and the relationship of the pull block to the platen shall be in accordance withFigure 2. 4.1.1 Platen. The upper face of the machine platen forms the fixture location face. To obtain interchangeability of the tooling between various mach

、ines, the height from the top of the platen to the end of the broach should be common. This upper face, therefore, forms the datum face for dimensions given in this standard. The thickness of the platen may vary with the capacity of the machines but sufficient space shall be provided to allow adequa

、te swarf clearance between chuck and platen. If necessary the platen shall be relieved to provide this clearance. 4.1.2 Pull block. The pull block houses the pull chuck. The dimensions, given inFigure 2, between the platen and pull block are the constant distances with the ram at the top of its stro

、ke. The thickness of the pull block may vary with the capacity of the machine. Spacing collars should be used to accommodate the variations in thickness. 4.1.3 Radial location of the pull chuck. A positive method of radially locating the pull chuck shall be provided. This feature is utilized when th

、e radial position of broach to workpiece is important. The location shall be from the flat machined on the pull chuck shank. NOTEThe method of location is not specified in this standard, but a typical method is illustrated inFigure 2. Pull block, pull chuck and broach location flats (ifprovided) sha
