、verBS5426:1993 ii BSI 08-1999 Foreword This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Textiles and Clothing Standards Policy Committee and supersedes BS5426:1987 which is withdrawn. BS 5426:1987 specified particular requirements for machinery attendants coveralls but, as a conseq
、uence of the publication of BSEN510, the requirements for machinery attendants coveralls have been omitted from this edition of BS5426. BS 5426:1987 also listed a number of publications concerning risk from fire, ignition and other hazards. These references have been deleted as a consequence of the
、Personal Protective Equipment Directive (Directive 89/686/EEC) 1. This edition introduces technical changes but it does not reflect a full review or revision of the standard, which will be undertaken in due course. The standard incorporates specifications for workwear garments for general industrial
、, public sector and hospital use and, at the request of local authorities, requirements for a lightweight, two-piece working rig which also satisfies local authority requrements. An8cm module for workwear is used but the need has been recognized for a4cm module in some career wear garments in certai
、n of the size tables. No intermediate sizes are referred to. Adjustments permitted to the size tables to allow for the use of100% cellulosic fabrics are included to cater for the continuing demand for this type of material. Tolerances on particular garment dimensions are also specified in the size t
、ables. Users of this standard should note that it sets no requirements in relation to the flammable or ignition properties of materials from which garments are made. Where users might encounter any specific risk from fire or ignition of workwear, and/or from other hazards, they should impose additio
、nal requirements in this respect or utilize more appropriate British Standards. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself c
、onfer immunity from legal obligations. In particular, attention is drawn to the need for the fibre content to be given in accordance with Statutory Instrument1986No.26 Trade Descriptions, The Textile Products (Indications of Fibre Content) Regulations19862. Attention is also drawn to Section6(1) of
、the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act19743 and the Operations at Unfenced Machinery Regulations19384. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages 1 to 22, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright da
