7、nd chemical testing for fertilizers. For some years the United Kingdom has participated in the standardization of methods of analysing fertilizers through Subcommittee 4, Chemical analysis, of Technical Committee134, Fertilizers and soil conditioners, of the International Organization for Standardiz
8、ation (ISO). As international agreement is reached on the methods, it is proposed to publish them as Sections of BS 5551. The standard is to be published in four Parts, each Part being subdivided into Sections and, where appropriate, Subsections. The four Parts are: Part 1: Terminology and labelling
9、; Part 2: Sampling; Part 3: Physical properties; Part 4: Chemical analysis. Part 4 is to be divided into five Sections as follows: Section 4.1: Determination of nitrogen; Section 4.2: Determination of phosphorous; Section 4.3: Determination of potassium; Section 4.4: Determination of water; Section
10、4.5: Determination of other constituents. This Subsection of Part4 is identical with ISO7407:1983 “Fertilizers Determination of acid-soluble potassium content Preparation of the test solution”. Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been accepted as suitable for publ
11、ication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the following. Wherever the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as “Br
12、itish Standard”. The comma has been used as a decimal marker. In British Standards it is current practice to use a full point on the baseline as the decimal marker. Additional information. 1) This British Standard describes a method of test only and should not be used as a specification defining lim
13、its of purity. Reference to the standard should indicate that the method of test used is in accordance with BS5551-4.3.2. 2) With reference to clause 3, water complying with BS3978 “Water for laboratory use” is suitable. 3) With reference to clause 5 and 6.1, the phrase “pretreatment of test samples
14、” (see clause 5) refers solely to the sampling procedures, such as sample division, used to produce “the prepared test sample” (see 6.1) and has no other significance, e.g. chemical significance. Other International Standards in this series are being prepared describing these sampling procedures and
15、, subject to UK approval, will be published as identical Sections of BS5551-2. 19、thod for the preparation of test solutions of fertilizers for the subsequent determination of their acid-soluble potassium contents. 2 Principle Boiling of a test portion with dilute hydrochloric acid solution. 3 Reagent Use only reagent of recognized analytical grade and only distilled water or wat
20、er of equivalent purity. 3.1 Hydrochloric acid, solution containing approximately36,5g of HCl per litre. Add 50,0 ml of hydrochloric acid (20= 1,18 g/ml) to about400 ml of water and cool. Dilute the solution with water to 500ml and mix. 4 Apparatus Ordinary laboratory apparatus, and 4.1 Flat-bottome
21、d flask, of capacity 750 ml. 4.2 Reflux condenser 4.3 One-mark volumetric flask, of capacity1000ml, complying with the requirements of ISO1042 1) , class B (maximum permitted error: 0,80ml). 5 Preparation of the test sample Pretreatment of test samples of fertilizers for the determination of potassi
22、um content will form the subject of a future International Standard. 6 Procedure 6.1 Test portion Weigh, to the nearest 0,001 g, 5 g of the prepared test sample (see clause 5). 6.2 Dissolution Transfer the test portion (6.1) to the flask (4.1) with300ml of the hydrochloric acid solution (3.1) and fi
23、t the reflux condenser (4.2) to the flask. Bring to the boil and continue boiling for 30 min. Cool the contents of the flask and transfer to the one-mark volumetric flask (4.3). Dilute to the mark with the hydrochloric acid solution (3.1), mix well and filter into a dry beaker. Discard the first50ml
24、 of filtrate. 7 Test report The test report for the subsequent determination of acid-soluble potassium content shall include the following information relevant to the preparation of the test solution: a) all the information necessary for the complete identification of the sample; b) a reference to t
