It is the intention that this standard will ultimately replace BS419:1966 “Varnished fabrics and tapes for electrical purposes”. A decision on withdrawal of this standard will be taken when the specification sheets for the resp

The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable for publication without deviation, as a British Standard. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those us

In the second paragraph of the Introduction, the word “series” should be interpretated as “British Standard”.

14、A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises

This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS5689-1:1979 BSI 08-1999 1

16、 Introduction This recommendation is one of a series which deals with varnished fabrics comprising bases woven from cotton, natural silk, or synthetic fibres (including glass) supplied in the form of full width rolls, sheets, or tapes slit to various widths. The series will have three parts describi

17、ng: 1) Definitions and general requirements; 2) Methods of test; 3) Specifications for individual materials. 1 Scope This part of the recommendation contains the definitions related to, and the general requirements to be fulfilled by, varnished fabrics for electrical purposes. 2 Designation The varn

18、ished fabrics shall be described in words which identify first the type of varnish and second the base fabric. The more commonly used materials are listed below: The associated code letters may be used to abbreviate the description when necessary. Further materials and symbols will be added if the n

19、eed for them becomes apparent. NOTEConsideration is being given to methods of test for thermal endurance and an addition to the designation indicating this will be proposed as soon as possible. The type of surface finish is to be agreed between purchaser and supplier e.g., dry, greasy, tacky, etc.,

20、and also the colour. 3 Definitions For the purpose of this recommendation, the following definitions apply: 3.1 full width material material of production width, e.g., about1m as ordered, with or without selvages 3.2 slit material material without selvages cut from full width material 3.3 straight-c

21、ut material cut parallel to the warp direction 3.4 bias-cut material cut so that both the warp and weft threads make an angle with the edges other than0 or90 3.5 panel form bias-cut bias-cut material in short lengths not joined together 3.6 sewn bias-cut bias-cut material in short lengths sewn toget

22、her before or after varnishing, to form a continuous length 3.7 stuck bias-cut Bias-cut material in short lengths stuck together with an adhesive after varnishing, to form a continuous length 3.8 seamless bias-cut bias-cut material produced in a continuous length by helical cutting from a woven slee

23、ve and then varnished 4 General requirements 4.1 Quality All material in any one consignment shall be as consistent as possible and have properties within the limits of this specification throughout the whole length of each roll. The varnished fabric shall be flexible, the surface shall be uniform,

24、reasonably smooth and reasonably free from defects such as bubbles, air holes, creases and flaws. It shall be capable of being unrolled without damage. Types of varnish: OR Oleoresinous PF Phenolic AK Alkyd PUR Polyurethane EP Epoxide SI Silicone BT Bitumen. Types of base material: C Cotton R Viscos

The joins shall be unmarked and their ten

26、sile strengths shall be not less than the minimum values given in Part3 of this specification for the tensile strength of the material, unless otherwise agreed between purchaser and supplier. Adhesive or adhesive tape used to stick joins and the method of making a join shall be the subject of agreem

27、ent between purchaser and supplier. 4.2.2 Panel form bias-cut materials The recommended roll lengths shall be made up of pieces not less than1.2m in length. Individual pieces may be made up into rolls of appropriate total length by interleaving with a continuous length of a suitable material. 5 Dime

28、nsions 5.1 Thickness The nominal thickness of the varnished fabric shall be one of the following:0.06mm,0.08mm,0.10mm,0.12mm, 0.15mm,0.20mm,0.25mm,0.30mm,0.40mm, 0.50mm or0.60mm (R 10 Series). The central value of the measured thickness shall be within 10% of the nominal value or 0.01mm of the nomin

29、al thickness, whichever is the greater. NOTEThe median value and the central value are to be considered equivalent. The measurement shall be carried out following the method published in Part2, Clause2, of this specification. 5.2 Width Full width material, e.g., about1m wide, shall have a tolerance

30、of 2.5%. The tolerance on material less wide shall be the subject of agreement between purchaser and supplier. The tolerance for slit material shall be 0.5mm up to a width of100mm and 1% for width above100mm. 5.3 Length The nominal length of a roll is the minimum length. Recommended lengths are50m a

31、nd100m. With the exception of panel form bias-cut material, any one roll of material is allowed to contain not more than two individual piece lengths, neither of which should be shorter than10m. If the electrical or mechanical property or both of the material are not maintained in the join between t

32、he two pieces, the join shall be marked. A join shall be marked in a way visible without unrolling the material. 6 Conditions of supply The material shall be rolled on a cardboard or other suitable core. The inner diameter of the core shall be agreed by purchaser and supplier, and it should preferab

33、ly be40mm or55mm. Sheets may be supplied also in the form of stacks. The material shall be placed in a packing which ensures adequate protection during transport, handling and storage. The type, width, and thickness of the material, the length of the roll, or the number of sheets in a stack, and the

34、 date of manufacture shall be clearly marked on the outside of each package.BS5689-1:1979 BSI 08-1999 Publications referred to See national forewordBS 5689-1: 1979 IEC 394-1: 1972 BSI 389 Chiswick High Road London W4 4AL BSIBritishStandardsInstitution BSI is the independent national body responsible
