It explains the structure of BS7011. For many years the UK has participated in the work of Subcommittee5, Microsc
6、opes, of Technical Committee ISO/TC 172, Optics and optical instruments, of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is now intended to implement the standards produced by, or in preparation in, ISO/TC172 as dual-numbered British Standards, except in those cases where current UK
7、practice prevents their adoption. The International Standards relating to consumable accessories for microscopes will be published as Parts of BS7011 and the International Standards relating to the components of light microscopes as Parts of BS7012. Table 1 details the Parts of BS7011 currently avai

That standard will be superseded by Parts of this British Standard and it will be withdrawn. As an interim step BS3836-1 will be amended to cr
9、oss-refer to this standard until such time as all the subject matter is replaced by Parts of this British Standard. In preparing this standard, the Technical Committee gave careful consideration to use of the term “light microscopes”, because it was recognized that in some circumstances it could be
10、wrongly interpreted as meaning “light-weight microscopes”. Use of the term “optical microscopes” was rejected as this includes electron microscopes, which are not within the scope of BS7011. In choosing the term “light microscopes” account was taken of the use of the term within the industry and the
11、 terminology recommended by the Royal Microscopical Society. For the purposes of this standard light microscopes are those which use light in the visible range (i.e. wavelengths of400nm to760nm) as the illuminating agent. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of
12、 a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.
