47、nformative)Guide to selection and use of cablesA.1 ObjectThe object of this annex is to provide general recommendations for the selection(taking into account the cable system), storage, transportation and installationof the cables specified in BS 7870-3 and BS 7870-4.Specific guidance is given in th
48、e relevant sections of BS 7870-3 and BS 7870-4.In case of doubt as to the suitability of a cable for a particular use, furtherspecific information should be obtained from the cable manufacturer.A.2 Recommendations for selection of cablesA.2.1 GeneralThe cables specified in BS 7870-3 and BS 7870-4 ar
49、e designed to be installed inair (indoors and/or outdoors), or may be buried directly in free draining soil orin ducts or in special backfills.Cables specified in BS 7870-3 and BS 7870-4 are not specifically designed for use:a) as self supporting cables;b) as submarine cables;c) where subsidence is likely, unless special precautions are taken to minimizedamage;d) where any exposure to excessive heat is involved.A.2.2 System categoriesIn accordance with IEC 60183, three categor
