20、hecarriagewayorarelikelytoencroachintothepathofoncoming vehicles.EN13172dealswiththeimpactperformanceofasafetybarrier.However,difficultiesarise inprovidingadequatesafeterminationstothebarrier.Consequently,terminals,whicharedefinedas thebeginningand/orendtreatmentofasafetybarrier,arerequiredtohavespe
21、cifiedimpact performances.Aterminalprovidesasmoothtransitionfromnocontainmenttothecontainmentofthe barrier,withoutintroducingadditionalhazardforheadonimpacts. Problemsmayalsoariseintheconnectionbetweentwodifferentsafetybarriershavingconsistent differenceinstiffness.Transitionsmaybeneeded,thatarerequ

TheobjectiveofthisprestandardistoleadtotheharmonizationofcurrentNationalRegulations,to categorizethemintoperformanceclassesandhelpdevelopnewsystemsandimproveexisting systems. ThisPartoftheprestandarddefinestheclassesofperformancerequiredofterminalsandtransitio

Theimpactseverityofvehiclesincollisionwithterminalsandtransitionsisratedbytheindices accelerationseverityindex(ASI),theoreticalheadimpactvelocity(THIV)andpostimpacthead deceleration(PHD).
