20、faseriesconcernedwithpersonalprotectiveequipmentdesignedtoprotect againsttherisksarisingfromtheuseofhandheldchainsaws. Accidentsoccurduetoanumberofcomplexreasons,butacommonfactorisincorrectuseofthechainsaw.The importanceofcorrecttrainingandproperuseofachainsawinpreventingaccidentscannotbeunderestima
21、ted. Insomecountrieschainsawusersadoptworkingpractices,whichtogetherwithtrainingmakestheuseofchainsaw protectiveupperbodyprotectorsunnecessary.Theseusuallyincludetheinstructiontoholdthechainsawwithboth handsandtousethechainbrakeifitbecomesnecessarytostopcutting.Itisoftenfoundthatforergonomic, reason
22、sitisimpracticaltoprotecttheupperbody. Allpartsoftheupperbodyhavebeenshowntobeatriskwhenusingachainsaw. InthisEuropeanStandard,specificationsfortheprotectivecoverageandperformanceoftheupperbodyprotectors aregiven.Nopersonalprotectiveequipmentcanensurea100%protectionagainstcuttingfromahandheld chains
23、aw. Nevertheless,experiencehasshownthatitispossibletodesignpersonalprotectiveequipment,thatoffersacertain degreeofprotection. Differentfunctionalprinciplesmaybeappliedinordertogiveprotection. Theseinclude: a) chainslipping:oncontactthechaindoesnotcutthematerial b) clogging:fibresaredrawnwiththechain
24、intothedrivesprocketandblockchainmovement c) chainbraking:fibreshaveahighresistancetocuttingandabsorbrotationalenergy,therebyreducingthechain speed. Oftenmorethanoneprincipleisappliedinchainsawprotectiveclothing.Upperbodyprotectorsmeetingthis standardaremeanttobeusedbyusersworkingoffthegroundandwher
25、eriskassessmentshowsthatthereisa significantrisktobecutbythemovingchainontheupperpartofthebodysuchaswhenworkingfromaskyliftand carryingouttreesurgery. 1Scope ThisEuropeanStandard,part10,specifiestheproceduresforsamplingandpretreatmentofupperbodyprotectors intendedtoprovideprotectionagainstcuttingbyh

33、thecuttingeffectofahandheldchainsaw.Thisprotective materialmayincludetheclothofthegarment. 3.4 unitofprotectivematerial cutoutpieceorpanelofprotectivematerialconsistingofallthefabricorotherlayersthatconstitutetheprotective materialthatgointotheconstructionofagarment.Aunithasnoseamsorjoinswithinit.Un
34、itsmaybejoined togethertoprovidethecompleteprotectivecoveragerequired,beforeinsertionandattachmenttogarments,but suchunitsretaintheirindividualityfortestingpurposes. 4Test methods 4.1 General Measuringinstrumentsunlessotherwisespecifiedshallbeaccurateto 2%ofthepass/faillevelofthe characteristicbeing
35、measured. Foreachoftherequiredsequencesofmeasurementsperformedinaccordancewiththisstandardacorresponding estimateoftheuncertaintyofthefinalresultshallbedetermined.Thisuncertainty(Um)shallbegiveninthetest reportintheformUm=X.Itshallbeusedindeterminingwhethera“Pass“performancehasbeenachieved.IfEN38110
36、:2002(E) 6 thefinalresultminusUmisbelowthepasslevelwhentherequirementthatacertainvalueshallbeexceeded,the sampleshallbedeemedtohavefailed. 4.2 Numberoftestspecimens Asetoftestspecimensshallbesuppliedthatissufficienttocompleteallthetests.Notethatiftwotypesofpre treatmentsarespecified,thetestingandthe
37、numbersoftestspecimensiseffectivelydoubledandtwosetsare required.Testspecimenswhichhavebeenusedtoassessdimensionalstabilityandprotectivecoveragemaybe usedforcuttestingifithasnotbeennecessarytocutthemupforthesemeasurements. Thenumberofgarmentsrequiredforcuttestingdependsonthenumberofunitsofprotective
38、materialpresent withinthemandwhetherthereareanyjoinsorseamsbetweendifferentprotectivematerialunitssuchasbetween thebodyandthesleeve.Onlyonetestcutshallbecarriedoutoneachunitofprotectivematerial.Thereforeat leastthreegarmentsarerequiredforcuttestingifthedesignincludesafasteningdownthecentrefrontofthe
39、 garment,butnoseamsbetweentheprotectivematerialonthebodyandinthesleeve.Foradesignincorporating onlyoneunitofprotectivematerial,sixgarmentsarerequiredforcuttesting. 4.3 Sizesoftestspecimens Wheneverpossibletestspecimensshallbeofasizetofituserswithchestgirthsof108to112cm. 5Pretreatment Exceptinthespec
40、ificcasesdetailedbelow,allthetestspecimensshallbewashedanddriedfivetimesbefore testing. TestspecimensshallbewashedaccordingtoENISO6330:2000,procedure2A.Aftereachwashcyclethetest specimenshallbedriedaccordingtoENISO6330:2000,procedureE(temperaturenottoexceed70 C).Ifthe upperbodyprotectorsaremarkedasu
41、nsuitablefortumbledrying,thetestspecimensshallbelinedriedaftereach washcycleaccordingtoENISO6330:2000,procedureA. Exceptionsandadditionstothistreatmentshallbemadeinthefollowingcases: a) Wheretheupperbodyprotectorsaremarkedasunsuitableforwashing,butsuitablefordrycleaning. Insuchcases,thetestspecimens
42、shallbedrycleanedfivetimesbeforetesting.Inprinciplethedrycleaningshall beperformedinaccordancewiththeconditionsdescribedin9.1“Processfornormalmaterials“ofEN ISO3175:1995 i.e. using conditioned test specimens, perchlorethylene with surfactant, addition of emulsified water,cleaningfor15minat(303) C,dr
43、ainingandextracting,rinsingfor5minwithpuresolvent,anddraining andfinalextraction,followedbytumbledryingwithanoutlettemperaturenotexceeding60 C.Norestorative finishingprocedureshallbeapplied. Wherethetestspecimensaremarkedassuitableforbothwashinganddrycleaning. Onesetoftestspecimensshallbewashedanddriedfivetimesandonesetoftestspecimensshallbedrycleaned fivetimes. b) Wherethemanufacturerspecifiesdifferentwashingorcleaningprocedurestheseshallbeusedinpreference tothoseabove. 6 Testingfordimens
