19、concernedwithpersonalprotectiveequipmentdesignedtoprotect againsttherisksarisingfromtheuseofhandheldchainsaws. Accidentsoccurduetoanumberofcomplexreasons,butacommonfactorisincorrectuseofthechainsaw.The importanceofcorrecttrainingandproperuseofachainsawinpreventingaccidentscannotbeunderestimated. Ins
20、omecountrieschainsawusersadoptworkingpractices,whichtogetherwithtrainingmakestheuseofupper bodyprotectorsunnecessary.Theseusuallyincludetheinstructiontoholdthechainsawwithbothhandsandto usethechainbrakeifitbecomesnecessarytostopcutting.Itisoftenfoundthatforergonomicreasonsitis impracticaltoprotectth
21、eupperbody. Allpartsoftheupperbodyhavebeenshowntobeatriskwhenusingachainsaw. InthisEuropeanstandard,specificationsfortheprotectivecoverageandperformanceoftheupperbodyprotectors aregiven.Nopersonalprotectiveequipmentcanensurea100%protectionagainstcuttingfromahandheld chainsaw. Nevertheless,experience
22、hasshownthatitispossibletodesignpersonalprotectiveequipmentthatoffersacertain degreeofprotection. Differentfunctionalprinciplesmaybeappliedinordertogiveprotection. Theseinclude: a) chainslipping:oncontactthechaindoesnotcutthematerial; b) clogging:fibresaredrawnbythechainintothedrivesprocketandblockc
23、hainmovement; c) chainbraking:fibreshaveahighresistancetocuttingandabsorbrotationalenergy,therebyreducingthechain speed. Oftenmorethanoneprincipleisappliedinchainsawprotectiveclothing.Upperbodyprotectorsmeetingthis standardaremeanttobeusedwhilstworkingofftheground,andwhereriskassessmentshowsthatther
24、eisa significantrisktobecutbythemovingchainontheupperpartofthebodysuchaswhenworkingfromaskyliftand carryingouttreesurgery.EN38111:2002(E) 5 1Scope ThisPartofthisEuropeanStandard,specifiesrequirementsfortheprotectionofferedbyupperbodyprotectors againstcuttingbyahandheldchainsawassessedbythetestmethod

30、ctorsforchainsawusersshallmeetanoverallrequirementthattheyaresafeandfitforthe purpose.Theyshallmeetrequirements4.2to4.7ofthisstandard. 4.2Innocuousness Upperbodyprotectorsforchainsawusersshallbedesignedandm anufacturedtoprovideprotectionwhenused accordingtothemanufacturersinstructions,withoutendange
31、ringtheuserorothers.Constructionmaterialsand incorporatedsubstances,shallmeettheinnocuousnessrequirementsinEN340.Theyshallnotendangerthose comingintocontactwiththem.ThemanufacturershalllistintheInformationSuppliedbytheManufacturer thenames andconcentrationsofallsubstancescontainedintheproduct,whicha
32、regenerallyknowntocauseallergiesor sensitisation.Upperbodyprotectorsforchainsawusersshallbefreeofhardorsharpcomponentsandrough surfaces,thatcouldcauseabrasion,bruising,irritation,puncturesorcutstoausercomingintocontactwiththem.The manufacturershallgiveguidanceonthesafedestructionanddisposaloftheprod
33、uctsandofanyhazardsthatcan ariseduringmechanicallydisruptingorincineratingtheproduct. 4.3Ergonomic requirements Theprotectiveclothingshouldbeaslightweightaspossible. Thedesignshallbewithoutappendages,whichcanbecomeentangledinmachineryortheundergrowth. Theconstructionaroundthesleeveshallfacilitateben
34、dingandliftingthearm. Thewatervapourresistanceofthegarmentoutsidethespecificprotectedareashallbenomorethan5(m 2 Pa/W) whentestedaccordingto10.1inEN38110:2002. Theprotectivegarmentsshallbedesignedtominimisediscomfortandimpedimentwhilewearingthem.When testedaccordingto10.2and10.3inEN38110:2002themeans
