Existingliftswereinstalledtothesafetylevelappropriat
31、eatthattime.Thislevelislessthantodaysstateoftheart forsafety. Newtechnologiesandsocialexpectationshaveledtotodaysstateoftheartforsafety.Thishasledtothesituation todayofdifferentlevelsofsafetyacrossEuropecausingaccidents.However,usersandauthorisedpersonsexpect acommonacceptablelevelofsafety. Inadditi
32、on,thereisagrowingtrendforpeopletolivelongerandfordisabledpeopletoexpectaccessanddesign forall.Thereforeitisespeciallyimportanttoprovideasafemeansofverticaltransportfordisabledandelderly personswithoutsupervision. Liftattendantsandinmanycasesbuildingcaretakersarenotsocommonanymore,soitisimportanttha
33、trelevant safetyfeaturesfortherescueoftrappedpersonsshouldbeprovided. Furthermorethelifecycleofaliftislongerthanmostothertransportationsystemsandbuildingequipment,which thereforemeansthatliftdesign,performanceandsafetycanfallbehindmoderntechnologies.Ifexistingliftsare notupgradedtotodaysstateofthear
34、tofsafetythenumberofinjurieswillincrease(especiallyinbuildingswhich canbeaccessedbythegeneralpublic). WiththefreedomofmovementofpeoplewithintheEUforbothusersandauthorisedpersons,familiarisationwith thedifferentinstallationsisbecomingmoreandmoredifficult. Approachofthisstandard Thisstandard categoris
