15、cturer,ratheritdescribes generictypesofviscometer.Theinstrumentsdescribedoperateonverydifferentprinciplesmakingitinadvisableto compareresultsfromonetypeofviscometerwiththosefromanother.However,resultsfromdifferentinstruments ofthesametypeshouldbecomparable. 29、ation.Factors,whichdependonthespeedofrotationandthe characteristicsofthespindle,areappliedtothetorsionalresistancemeasurementresultinginanestimateofthe coefficientofviscosity. ThemethodisoftenappliedtononNewtonianfluidsandtheviscositymeasureddependsontherateofshear. Adetaileddescriptionoftheapparatu
30、stobeusedandfurtherdetailsofthismethodaregiveninENISO2555and ENISO3219. 6.2.2 Procedure 6.2.2.1 Preparetheadhesiveinaccordancewiththemanuacturersinstructions.Unlessotherwisespecified,takea sampleoftheadhesiveinaccordancewithEN1066andexamineandprepareitinaccordancewithEN1067. 6.2.2.2Setup,calibratean
31、doperatetheviscometerinaccordancewiththemanufacturersinstructions.Spindles andspeedsshallbechosensuchthattheinstrumentreadingisintherangeof20%to95%ofthefullscalevalue. 6.2.2.3 Ensurethatthetemperatureofthetestspecimeniswithintheprescribedlimits.Unlessotherwisespecified, thetemperatureofthetestspecim
32、enshallbemaintainedat(23 0,5)C.Heatorcoolthecontainerholdingthetest specimenbyimmersioninathermostaticallycontrolledbath.Specialattachmentsareusuallyavailablefortesting hotmeltadhesives. 6.2.2.4 Startthemotorandleavethespindleturningintheadhesiveuntilasteadyvalueisrecorded.Insomefluids thereadingoft
33、heinstrumentwillnotsettle,butwillcontinuetodrift.Insuchcases,recordthereadingaftera specifictime. 6.2.2.5Stopthemotor,waituntilthespindlehasstopped,thenrestartthemotorandtakeasecondmeasurement. 6.2.2.6 Repeattheprocessdescribedin6.2.2.5untiltwoconsecutivereadingsdifferbynomorethan3%.Takethe averageo
34、fthesetwovalues. 6.2.2.7Aftereachdetermination,removethespindlefromtheapplianceandwashitcarefullyintheappropriate solvent. 6.2.3Expressionofresults Calculatetheestimateofviscositybythemethodprescribedbythemanufactureroftheviscometer.
