29、n); theseverityleveltobeappliedtothevariouszonesorareasofthecasting(acceptancecriteria); requirementsforawrittenexaminationprocedure; whetherthereareanyadditionalrequirementsfortheexaminationprocedure,seealso5.5.1.EN126801:2003(E) 6 4.2 Extentofexamination Thecastingshallbeexaminedsothattheagreedare

30、asaretotallycovered(insofarasthisispossiblefromthe shapeofthecasting)bytheuseofthebestapplicableexaminationtechnique. Forwallthicknessesgreaterthan600mm,agreementshallbemadebetweenthepartiesconcernedontheexami nationprocedureandalsoontherecordingandacceptancelevels. 4.3 Maximumpermissiblesizeofdisco

31、ntinuities 4.3.1 Limitsofacceptanceforplanardiscontinuitiesmainlyorientatedperpendiculartothesurface ThelimitsofacceptanceforplanardiscontinuitiesaregiveninFigure1. Indicationswithmeasurabledimensionsarenotpermissibleasseveritylevel1. Thelargestdimensioninthroughwalldirectionshallnotexceed10%ofwallt

32、hickness,exceptindicationswitha measurablelength 10mm.Suchindicationsshallnotexceedadimensioninthroughwalldirectionof25%ofwall thicknessor20mm. Thegreatestdistancebetweenindicationsascriterionforevaluationassingleindicationorindicationareaperpen dicularorlateraltothesurfaceshallbe10mm. Foranareawith

33、measurablelengthandnonmeasurabledimensioninthroughwalldirection,thisnonmeasurable dimensionshallbetakenas3mmandtheareabecalculated: A=3 L (1) where Aistheareaofindicationexpressedinsquaremillimetres; 3isthetakenwidthinmillimetres; Listhemeasurablelengthexpressedinmillimetres. 4.3.2 Limitsofacceptanc

34、eforvolumetricdiscontinuities ThelimitsofacceptanceforvolumetricdiscontinuitiesaregiveninTable1.Anydiscontinuityexceedingoneofthe criteriashallbeconsideredasunacceptable. 4.3.3 Maximumpermissiblediscontinuitiesinthecaseofradiographicexaminationofthecastingcarried outasasupplementtoultrasonicexaminat

35、ion Unlessotherwiseagreedbythetimeofenquiryandorder,when,afterconductingtheradiographicandtheultra sonicexaminationincombination,ithasbeendemonstratedthatadiscontinuityissituatedinthecorezone,this additionalinformationmakesthediscontinuityacceptableatonelevellesssevere,e.g.severitylevel3insteadof2 f

36、orradiographicexamination,seeEN15592. 4.4Personnel qualification Itisassumedthatultrasonicexaminationisperformedbyqualifiedandcapablepersonnel.Inordertoprovethis qualification,itisrecommendedtocertifypersonnelinaccordancewithEN473.EN126801:2003(E) 7 4.5 Wallsectionzones Thewallsectionshallbedividedi

37、ntozonesasshowninFigure2.Thesesectionsrelatetothedimensionsofthe castingreadyforassembly(finishmachined). 4.6 Severitylevels Ifthepurchaserspecifiesdifferentseveritylevelsindifferentareasofthesamecasting,alloftheseareasshallbe clearlyidentifiedonthepurchasersdrawingandshallinclude: allnecessarydimen

38、sionsforaccuratelocationofzones; thefullextentofallweldpreparationsandthethicknessofanyspecialrimzone. Severitylevel1isonlyappliedtoweldpreparationsandspecialrimzones. Unlessotherrequirementshavebeenagreedbythetimeofacceptanceoftheorder,forfinishingwelds,there quirementsfortheparentmetalshallapply.

39、5Examination 5.1Principles TheprinciplesofultrasonicexaminationgiveninEN5831,EN5832andEN5835shallapply. 5.2Material Thesuitabilityofmaterialforultrasonicexaminationisassessedbycomparisonwiththeechoheightofareference reflector(usuallythefirstbackwallecho)andthenoisesignal.Thisassessmentshallbecarried

40、outonselected castingareaswhicharerepresentativeofthesurfacefinishandofthetotalthicknessrange.Theassessmentareas shallhaveparallelsurfaces. ThereferenceechoheightaccordingtoTable2shallbeatleast6dBabovethenoisesignal. Iftheechoheightofthissmallestdetectableflatbottomedorequivalentsidedrilledholediame

41、terattheendofthe testrangetobeassessedislessthan6dBabovethegrasslevel,thentheultrasonictestabilityisreduced.Inthis case,theflatbottomedorsidedrilledholediameterwhichcanbedetectedwithasignalnoiseratioofatleast6dB shallbenotedinthetestreportandtheadditionalprocedureshallbeagreedbetweenthemanufacturera

42、ndthe purchaser.
